clark has this system with bruce to prove a point:
I’ve seen a lot of posts about how much the kids like to be with Bruce and Batman because he makes them feel safe (being carried by him, tucked under his cape, etc,,)
But what about the hc that it is actually for Bruce instead. Like they just know how much he needs those interactions so he can convince himself that they are alive and still with him, so they just let him do what he needs to do to convince himself that his babies are safe.
For example:
Jason doesn’t like to stay at the manor because of the tension and the trauma (obviously) but every once in a while he has to spend the night because he’s too tired to get home or his safe house has been compromised and he needs a day before he can figure something else out. On very rare occasions, though, Jason has a little too close of a call and he needs to “use the caves medbay” (he actually needs to make sure that his family is alive and he’s not in another twisted reality where he is ripped away from them without saying goodbye)
One of these nights Jason has just gotten into bed after his abdomen had been stitched and wrapped, when he hears the door shift open and extremely light footsteps walking towards the bed. He turns over, expecting to see Damian coming to tell him goodnight (and that he should not have been so foolish as to let himself be shot but they both know that means Jason scared him and he wants to make sure his brother is okay) but instead he sees Bruce, looking apprehensive but also so so relieved.
Jason: B? Whats wrong?
Bruce: Nothing, sorry to disturb you, I’ll let you rest.
But Bruce does not turn to leave, he stands at the foot of Jason’s bed and just,,, stares at him.
Jason is a little alarmed, but mostly just confused. This is the most he and Bruce have seen of each in weeks and he doesn’t know what Bruce wants. But then Bruce moves up the bed so he can smooth Jason’s hair back.
Batman is as crazy as the villains he fights.
Harley Quinn show did a great job showing this.
Bruce spent years teaching Tim various marital arts. This appears to be an example of the deadly art Robin-tossing ( a very rare form used only by emotionally repressed billionaire vigilantes with issues).
Reasons why Batman is sad while riding a unicorn: -Alfred won't let him keep it *But if he could convince Damian to say the unicorn is his Alfred will say yes *What if the unicorn likes Damian more than him? -Do unicorns really poop rainbows? He has only just gotten people to forget about his rainbow uniform -Pink clashes with red. He can't dress it up and call it Robin -Horses and other prey animals fear Selina and die around her *Batcow won't even come inside if Selina is around -Batcow might not like Biscuits. A cow vs unicorn battle would terrible *What if they become chums and go adventuring together without him? -Biscuits will die or leave him just like everyone else -He can't keep the entire herd -Biscuits isn't black and doesn't match his aesthetics -Unicorns are associated with virgins. People already think he's trying too hard to compensate. The whole Catwoman relationship and disavowing sex with Talia thing and crying rape has only made it worse, especially since Talia's started telling everyone that he couldn't get it up without being drugged -What do unicorns even eat? -Just like everyone else, Biscuits will meet Dick and love him more -Two dragons, two dogs, a cow, a cat, and assorted teenagers (Damian is a teenager right? Why does he keep aging when none of the others do? It's so confusing.) is already too much according to Alfred -Damian isn't going to agree to pretend the unicorn was his idea, is he? -What if Damian takes off on a year long trip with girls and the unicorn and rarely calls again? Would Biscuits really do that to him? All the other animals do. He has no idea where Batcow and Titus are most days. They're more feared urban legends than he ever was -Batunicorn is a great idea no matter what anyone thinks
hey does anyone want a...excerpt?
Tim sighed wetly. “S’okay. You have the kid you want back. And a real kid. Y’don’t need me an’more.”
There was a hard lump sitting in Bruce’s stomach and it just kept getting bigger. “What?” Steph winced at his raised voice and Bruce made himself push it down. This was no time to get hysterical. He was around the desk and kneeling in front of Tim in a heartbeat. “Tim, no.” He rubbed his thumb across his son’s knuckles. “I’m glad Jason is back and I’m happy to have Damian but I still need you. I still want you.” Tim was crying now and Bruce’s own throat was uncomfortably tight. He was suddenly hyper-aware of Stephanie’s presence. “You’re my son, Tim.” What did it say about him that saying this was easier because Tim was so out of it? “That’s not going to change, no matter how many siblings you have.” Even if the thought of there being more made him twitch. He could barely take care of the kids he had now, any more and he’d ruin them all more than he already was. How could he have let Tim think this, that he was replaceable? How had he not noticed? World’s Greatest Detective and he couldn’t even tell when his son needed him.
Bruce pulled Tim forward into a hug, one hand cupping the back of his neck. He would do better. He had to. “Tim, I-” His throat tightened again, invisible hands squeezing. Dick. Jason. Talia. Harvey. “I-” Why couldn’t he say it? Mom. Dad. Alfred. Everyone he said it to was hurt. Some left. Some stayed or came back and he didn’t deserve it because then he would say it again and it would hurt them again. Tim was hurting already, he couldn’t condemn him to that, couldn’t ruin him more than he already had. But everything he read said it was important to tell them, every day. But how could they know that he would ruin them if he did? He was ruining them when he didn’t. “Tim,” he said, trying to push it into that word. Names were safe, he could say those without screams or cracks or acid sizzling on skin.
And, miracle of miracles, Tim’s arms tightened around him. “Love you too,” he whispered, and Bruce felt like an anvil had been lifted and then dropped right back onto his chest. Tim knew, and Bruce knew that if he told him and the inevitable happened, Tim would come back. Again and again and again. And the thought terrified him. He ran his fingers through Tim’s hair.
“You are not a stand-in,” he said. “And I am so glad you came into my life.”
Tim made a tiny, wounded sound and Bruce tightened his grip. He ruined people, but he could keep Tim safe. He could protect him. He had to.
It’s 2:37 am. The city is quiet. but Bruce’s mind isn’t. He’s staring up at the ceiling, rigid, restless. Clark stirs in bed beside him.
Quietly, Bruce asks, “why do you stay?”
Clark blinks awake. “What?”
“Wth me. Here. You know I don’t make it easy.”
Clark props himself up on his elbows, he takes a moment before he speaks. His voice soft, earnest. “No, you don’t. But i stay because i see a man who tries. Who lets me in, even if it’s just an inch at a time.” He pulls bruce into his arms. Clark moves him so delicately like he’d break apart - shatter into a million pieces. “I stay because I love you.”
It’s a while before Bruce speaks again, his face buried into Clark’s neck. “… I don’t say it enough.”
Bruce felt Clark chuckle. “You don’t have to say it. Just don’t make me guess.”

Summary: Damian Wayne is kidnapped and sent back years through time. Together, he and Father – who's only been Batman for a mere six months –must figure out how to return him to his own time.
Over the course of the next week, Damian discovers that Mexican gangsters do not mess around, that social workers find Bruce annoying, that Bruce might be a little messed up, and that crystal chandeliers create the fondest memories.
Oh. And Alfred has hair.
Reader’s Comments: ADORABLE! Both Bruce and Dami are so awkward, it is hilarious. But also this story is so sweet and well written. I will definitely recommend.
