so bruce appeared out of nowhere to to deliver news of roys passing and if you didnt read what happened in the previous RHATO issues the scene played like whats happened between them was just that jason had broken something in the manor and bruce had yelled at him really loudly and jay got mad and left; not like oh i dont know, maybe a violent display of overt power imbalance that consists of bruce beating jay up to the point of breakdown, physically and mentally, nope
what should understandably be a tense reconnection over loss between these two frankly outright incompatible parties ended up simply being charmlessly awkward and maybe a lil aww if you squint, which just hurts my soul ~~so much~~, and then at the end of all that fuckery JAY was the one who went in for a hug and sounded sheepishly apologetic, like a problem kid who knows he keeps messing up but really didnt mean it daddy please dont hate me im sorry im such a brat!!!!!!!!!!! and bruce being the Patriarch Who Loves ToUghLy recited a Moral Lesson straight out of a fucking hallmark card then and there i mean ya gotta respect the nerve of this issue!!! its fuckin shameless!!!!
i love bruce i really do hes rich and pretty but hes a walking collateral emotional baggage and at this point the pedestal many writers keep putting him on is just tired and most of the time unwarranted. you know whats warranted though? jason peter f u c k i n g todd wrecking bruce waynes f u c k i n g shit.
but really id settle for jay just takes the news stoically and be on his way, refusing to mourn with bruce. if its up to me to write this shitshow id make it obvious that the events of sanctuary moreover losing dick have shaken bruce. its bruce who needs a shoulder, needs a connection, needs another fucking human being. jay is well acquainted with things not going his way after all, and knows that in the end he’s always alone. it would have been poetic justice to see bruces solemn grandstanding and dramatic relay of events be met with a brisk nod of acknowledgement and nothing else, his needs unfulfilled. because thats what a selfish prick deserves.

bruce opening the meeting with instructions??????? lmao classic bruce. “sit. drink.” the situation has to be on HIS terms, because it has to be exactly how he PLANNED it, and when they parted ways it had to be with HIS last words and giving statements like “i know you have my six” i mean bold of him to assume????? im going to go out on half a limb here to say that maybe, maaaaaaaaaaaybe the relationship is actually written canonically to be imbalanced and emotionally manipulative/abusive, because bruce needs a human connection and a chance to mourn, so he acts like he’s doing jay a favor when its actually the other way around, and jay, distraught and trained to adapt to bruces mood, walked into that. HOWEVER it could be that im just overthinking what is simply a ‘lol comics’ thing.

trash headcanon: wow their relationship seems abusive and jason sounds like someone whos been brainwashed into thinking that its always his fault for getting on bruces nerves, always his fault for making bruce beat him up, because bruce loves him, thats how bruce shows that he loves him, even though hes always making it hard for bruce, even though hes unworthy of bruces love. wow thats pretty fucked up on all levels, i love it
