i dont think theres a fandom consensus about how buck reacted after tommy left in 8x11 but I think it’d be juicy if buck was just. incandescently angry.

Buck helping the guy that was squatting in his house (despite the fear and anger he caused him) reminded me so much of the episode in season 1 where Buck tracked down the guy who used his photos to cat fish women but then fought to give him dignity in death. I love Evan Buckley.

(ok this was originally meant to be a reply to a person's post but it got long and i felt like it would work best as it's own standalone post since it kinda got off topic of the orignal person's post lmao)

there is nothing that bvddie would bring to the table that bucktommy can't, and i think bvddie would actually bring more DETRIMENTS than benefits if it were to happen.

there's a reason none of the main couples of the show work at the same place together. bathena work TOGETHER often, but they are (were?) The Main Couple of the show. madney are both first responders but they rarely interact together on calls. and i think the reason that we haven't had a pairing work together at the 118 is that… well, it'd be boring.

all the main couples on this show are soulmates, but they also have their own separate lives. athena gets to work on cases that most of the time don't involve the 118, maddie's on every dispatch call and has her friendship with josh, karen... well, when she isn't getting angry at hen for not being there for their family for the nth time, she's a fucking rocket scientist!

we wouldn't get that with bvddie. we'd be watching buck and eddie work together on calls, then watching them go home together and have domestic problems (because lets be real that relationship would NOT be all sunshine and roses. they'd make each other worse). and because they're both mains, this would happen every episode. unless one of them transfered, you can't separate them like bathena or madney.

and barring any storylines with chris, i don't think there's a single storyline that bvddie can do that bucktommy CAN'T. arguably, bucktommy brings MORE to the table than bvddie since you've basically got a whole new character to explore with tommy. (though, considering we haven't seen that much of KAREN'S past and she's been around since s1, i don't think we should expect more tommy lore).

tommy brings with him the 217, he could bring back lucy considering they're coworkers, he's got established dynamics with the 118, we still don't know how long he was at the 118 before howie showed up. we've got his nebulous dad that could show up for easy drama.

maybe this was kinda mean but i've had this thought for a while. i just think that bucktommy brings more showwise than bvddie does.

dont mind me just thinking about a hypothetical tommy and chim friendship in s1. underrated dynamic tbh. especially pre-rebar. tommy just broke up with abby a year ago because he was lying about who he was and the 118 had no idea he was even DATING someone much less ENGAGED for TWO YEARS.

anyways early s1 chim is an asshole and would poke and prod at that wound until tommy either tells him or snaps. especially with chim asking for advice about tatiana.

just picture that scene in episode 1 where chim is talking about lying to tatiana about his accomplishments and rescues and tommy warns chim abt not being true to himself in his relationship and how thats being unfair to his partner

and chim just hits back with: “is that what happened with you and abby?”

“… go to hell, howie.”

Even if the writers bring in a new LI for Buck, no one is ever gonna beat Tommy Kinard. Sorry! But just look at this material:

Tommy personally knows and respects the life of a firefighter and why it’s so important to Buck, something that Buck’s previous love interests found difficult to understand

Tommy can be involved in calls and can help the 118 in a way others can’t (as we’ve seen)

Even before dating Buck, Tommy had strong connections to the main characters — the most important people in Buck’s life

Buck himself said Tommy is his most transformative relationship since Abby (whom Tommy is also connected to)

Speaking of Abby, Buck pined for her, but it was clear that Abby was ready to move on when she left him. With Buck and Tommy, both of them want each other back. Neither is ready to move on. They pine for each other.

Tommy is one of the very few people who call Buck “Evan” and the only one to do so regularly and with such affection. It was only during the breakup that Tommy called him Buck. The worst day of Buck’s life was the day Tommy called him by the name everyone else uses for him. Because Tommy isn’t everyone else. And no one else will ever be Tommy to Evan.

Tommy was a part of the call that ended with Bobby’s death. Tommy was the only one who saw Buck’s grief after losing the person he considered his father. Tommy was a pall bearer and walked with the main characters at Bobby’s funeral.

Speaking of Bobby, Tommy is the only LI of Buck’s that Bobby approved of. The only one Bobby will ever approve of. Bobby knew Tommy and Tommy knew Bobby. Tommy was part of the 118 when Bobby began again. Tommy saved Bobby’s life before Buck met him.

It was Tommy’s decision to transfer that opened the spot at the 118 that changed Buck’s life.

Literally, Buck is the happiest he has ever been when he is with Tommy. He can be giggly during sex and hold funerals for dead cowboys. Buck smiles and looks at Tommy with so much affection. And Tommy shows up for Buck – whether it’s attending the hospital wedding after an exhausting shift or making sure he’s resting after he’s injured or cooking him a literal feast or stealing a helicopter.

Any LI after Tommy would pale in comparison. The writers will do what they will but … why even attempt to outdo this ... You simply can’t!

#the writers stumbled upon the perfect li for Buck #Even tho tommy has limited screen time #He still feels like a dimensional character bc he has literal history on the show and fictional history with the 118 #the characters AND the audience already know tommy and have seen him outside his relationship with Buck #Creating a new LI would not have the years-long connection tommy has with the 118 #And bringing back a LI… his relationship with Taylor ended badly on both sides #I can’t see them bringing back Ali or Natalia #since those relationships fizzled out pretty unceremoniously and didn’t really have an impact on Buck #The writers would be dumb fr if they spent time trying to make a new relationship work #I do think the main reason they’re keeping BT separated into s9 is to milk the drama as much as they can for Buck’s SL #Then they don’t have to think about where Buck and Tommy would be #at the beginning of s9 if they got back together at the end of s8 #Buck’s SL can stay as it was at the end of s8: still mourning Bobby still pining for tommy. Easy!
