Mott iron works building. Mott, inventor of the coal burning stove and founder of Mott Iron Works was born in Hempstead, Long Island (1798-1866). He renamed the area Mott haven after himself. He purchased land from Gouverneur Morris II in 1828 to establish the iron works purchased more land from the Morris in 1840 to expand his iron work. Commissioned painting with inventors n scientist painting in D.C. National portrait gallery called men of Progress. Built the Harlem bridge in 1868 replaced 1898. Tubs, porcelain sinks and regular tubs, fountains. Pictured top left is an old ad and top right is a fireplace they made. Mott street in Manhattan is named after his father.
