Seven Boys, One Beginning
Let me just begin by saying welcome to the blog! I got into BTS in 2014-2015 and when I tell you they for sure shifted my world. That was back when I was 14 and now I am 26 and a happy adult ARMY who has grown up with BTS and whose baby girl also has been loving their music as well. For the sake of myself I am going to go by the name Violet when referring to myself (since it is a way to say purple💜) and then I can keep it as my online persona when I am in a writing mood.
I figured for a blog/way for me to thank the boys in my own way I wanted to start with clearly their debut since that was before "I purple you" and before we all knew how large this fandom would become. I will have more parts following this delving into fun things like memes from this era of the boys, bangtan bombs that have left a mark for over a decade, and of course their style/music/member specific posts before i move to the next era. I will of course have facts and things but alot of this will be my own personal view on things. If you would like an about me (ofc relating to the boys like my bias/fav song/fav album or more of course let me know). Now to delve. . .wish you could here the squealing since I am so excited for this.
The Era: "School Trilogy"
When speaking of eras I think in dates that videos were released so to me this era lasted from June 2013 - April 2014. So over a little under a year the boys released three small albums 2 Cool 4 Skool, O!RUL8,2?, and Skool Luv Affair. Which to me are such amazing albums to listen to even to this day because even though their style has changed you can still see so much of them and who they are in the start. In my eyes they may have worn eye liner and put on some fake aggressive personas but they talked about what they wanted to talk about.
They air frustrations with that have with pressure from society but also with authority in general. Speaking out against the system basically. But in my eyes they did it from a great angle aiming it more at the youth who probably felt lost in their minds and felt like they already had a path or box they were being forced into (i will get more into this later in some album/song breakdowns I want to do). Based on what they speak about we all should have seen the movement coming because the global impact they have now isn't that shocking when you look deeper into their past.
Coming from a small company, people saw them as destined to fail like it was for sure in the cards. They didn't have the budget to do all they wanted with promoting themselves and they also had alot of skepticism thrown their way. The rebellious hip hop image didn't help them at all in those regards since other groups in that time were pop heavy and polished to be "perfect". So, BTS was seen as a niche group due to the image they set for themselves. Personally, I wouldn't have it any other way though because watching Bangtan Bombs and seeing their stage performance vs how they were in real life personality wise and together is so sweet to me. Even though their first album didn't sell well and they all shared a one bedroom apartment. . .they pushed their way through. I just want to give all of their debut selves a hug because I know it must have been hard with all their own thoughts. Media outlets also not helping with being rude towards them as well.
No matter what they were going through they all stayed connected to their fans through social media and reached out to their hearts with relatable and personal lyrics. So let's dive a little bit into each album of this Era so you can get some glimpses at the vibes before the in depth posts.
2 Cool 4 Skool
Album: contains an intro, outro, skit, interlude, and three tracks The title track being No More Dream their debut song from June 13th, 2013. But fun fact their first MV (music video in case you don't know) was We Are Bulletproof, PT2 even though it was put out after No More Dream.
From the concept photos, debut trailer, and No More Dream teasers you can get a sense for the strong composure they are putting forward as being a hip hop group. I mean their outro song is literally them sitting in a circle taking turns on the mic which I personally love. Raw recordings of music will always have my heart.
The debut trailer released May 26, 2013 and to me sounds like a pacer test in the beginning which already transported me into my school mindset where most kids feel misunderstood by most teachers. Not everyone is the same and sometimes we wish we could flip a desk I know I used to want to in some classes. The visuals and lyrics show a fierceness in what they want to send a message about.
The teasers for No More Dream were released on June 6, 2013 and June 9, 2013 showing the fashion concept clips, everyone's stage names, and great close ups of the members. Also displaying great clips of the choreography for the song. One thing I for sure want to say is RM in the first trailer says "Life is a zoo and a jungle" which hits hard because when you think about it that is one great way to explain of crazy and scary life can be. There is a metaphorical food chain in society is to me at least something this refers to. Feeling caged with speaking of it being a zoo.
O!RUL8,2?
Album: contains an intro, outro, skit, and now 7 tracks. The title track for this album was N.O. which the MV was released on September 10, 2013. For me I love that N.O. sticks to the same vibes if not more aggressive than No More Dream BUT this albums music differs from containing the first Cypher from our Rap Line (RM, Suga, J-Hope) and then also having a slow sweet song with Coffee. It definitely was an album in my eyes to start showing all the boys could do.
Firstly quick dive into N.O. where they speak of how students are in Suga's words "Studying machines" and this speaks to ANYONE. It's true in so many ways because we all get pressure put onto us whether it be parents, society, teachers, or even ourselves. This whole song is about not being trapped by a path someone else has set for you and to say NO and to not push your dreams to the side until later. Adults want us to do great so we can get a great job and do good for ourselves which yes I agree do good for yourself and try your best but don't forget what you want at the same time.
Coming off of that I want to also do some quick references to the other songs on this that stand out to me. We On is legit talking about ignoring what the haters say about them, they bring it personal not vague for everyone but it is about THEM. Coffee will always hold a special place in my heart. . . the piano alone is enough to soften the entire album. Attack on Bangtan starts with saying "But what will happen if BTS rises?" and it is a song announcing themselves as a force to be reckoned with asking who they are and saying they are BTS, showing their PRIDE in themselves and telling the world to get to know them if they don't already know.
Skool Luv Affair
Album: contains an intro, outro, skit, and 7 tracks. The title song for this album was Boy In Luv and it had them go still a bit aggressive but more in a love way which yes I know sounds confusing after those last two albums BUT when I do my deep dives all will make sense. This was the album that honestly got me kicking my feet and becoming locked onto to them! [apologies now if i ramble a little too much about this album]
The Boy in Luv MV as well as this album as a whole yes keeps their more rough around the edges vibe going but with this they lean more towards the youth aspect, first love, and a softness that creeps its way in. It is a love song yes but it's the love song a high school boy would write about his first crush {LOL}. Being confused as to why you feel a way in front of her. What the right way to go about asking her would be. He is for sure not going about it the right way BUT it is very high school love song.
Another track on this album got a whole MV with a teaser as well. Just One Day a slow song like polar opposite feeling you get from the title track. It is a song of them begging to have just one day to show the girl they love how they care and to spend time with them. Stating all the little things they notice about her which hits my heart cause YES PLEASE! Just another one of those songs I will close my eyes and just smile to as the lyrics flow.
Both music videos even though being in school uniforms vary as well clearly having different concepts. Boy in Luv is set in a school clearly not taken care of and they aren't wearing their uniforms perfect and they have the bad boy look. Just One Day they are in cream sweaters at golden hour in front of a soft background and even though they still have the eyeliner its just so different.
Until next time, keep it purple 💜💜💜

BIG DREAMS ⛓️🚍✨ #BTS

BTS Debut Countdown
With No More Dream charting again around the world last week, I've been looking back at BTS in 2013. Below is the order the members were introduced in the countdown to their debut on 13 June 2013
Secret/hidden member -V.
(Rest of the) Vocal Line - Jin, Jimin and Jungkook
Rap Line - Rap Monster, Suga, J-Hope
So I have questions: 1) Who is that cutie in the baseball cap? 2) Who was in charge of the eyeliner that day? and 3) Why is J-Hope dressed up like some kind of bedazzled Bane from The Dark Knight Rises?
