These ibises are found in open habitats, including savannas and pastures in parts of northern, central, and eastern South America. They feed mostly on insects, along with spiders, centipedes, amphibians, and small reptiles and mammals. Nesting alone or in colonies, they build platform nests from branches and twigs in tree stumps, on reed mats, rocky outcroppings, and cliffs, or in trees.
