6. What’s something you have in common with this character?

Van: we both use humour as a coping mechanism

Tai: I think we are both quite reactionary and quick to judgment.

12. What’s a headcanon you have for this character?

Van: I have so many but one that I haven’t shared before (it’s heavy) is that I think she tried to commit after Tai broke up with her. I think she wanted to come back home so bad that she had an idealized version of her life in her head. But when she got back obviously her mom was still the same, the world was still the same, and I don’t think she thought she had much of a future outside of Tai. (I also think that adult Van very much misses the wilderness and part of her shame about her younger self is that she can’t acknowledge that she enjoyed aspects of her time out there)

Tai: I don’t think Tai ever questioned that she liked girls. I really feel like since she was a kid she’s just been like yeah¿ girls are hot and awesome obviously I like them. Don’t get me wrong she probably had a bit of comp het but I don’t think she ever denied her attraction to women.

I also very much hc Tai as a narcissist (this is kinda canon but I want more) but I dont think that really kicks in until post-rescue. In the wilderness shes quite selfless, does a lot for the group, but the first thread of her selfishness shows up when she wants to stay behind. Even in the adult timeline, obviously she loves Van and wants her to live, but part of the reason she tries so hard to save Van is to absolve herself from the guilt of leaving her. Any way I want more narcissist Tai in season 4<3

Not sure if it's been mentioned before in your blog but any opinions on bug gribble and "my own private rodeo"? I notice he went through similar changes Peggy's mother did just in a more minor scale,and with how much you post about sanchdiego I'm sure there's some opinions about him

I haven't talked at all about Bug yet! But I think they did a good job on his retcon. Because the first time we see him, he's in a Dale nightmare sequence so you know that vision is tainted by Dale's unreliable narrative. So it's easier to accept that he looks a little different and perhaps acts a little different. And he doesn't look that much different either. He's got more hair than Dale does at that age!

I also have to give Bug major props for putting Dale in panties and bondage. Who wouldn't?

It's really cute that Dale has a good relationship with his father after this episode. It grounds Dale to give him interpersonal relationships that show off how sensitive and accepting he can be, even if Dale gives off the insurrectionist vibe. And gives Dale more contrast with Hank, since Hank has a terrible relationship with his excrutiatingly heterosexual and misogynist and general misanthropic father Cotton.

There's something that SOMEONE could say about most of the "out" gay characters in KOTH being the lisping effeminate stereotype? Or how Bug is shown to consistently go after much younger men (which is a stereotype of old gay guys being chickenhawks or something)? But the show (and this episode) came out so long ago, it's par for the course. Just like how the episode with Carolyn is relatively woke for its time (when every other show was doing Jerry Springer skits with "ew crossdressers!!!" and South Park was still doing the dolphin surgery shtick), it has the right heart if not the currently recognized vocabulary and ability to realize the nuances between transvestites, transgender and transsexual individuals, and drag queens.

And with how much I post about SanchDiego... well I gotta say I'm glad that Dale has a lot of gay friends :D "Special friends" as well.

And he's been friends with John Redcorn for years, and he's gay!

I'm into the "special friend" coding by Bug, cuz that's really what it do be like. You gotta pass off as special friends, or brothers/sisters, or something when you're not sure about the current company. And it kinda confronts the viewer with how dudes view friendships! Is having buttsex the only difference between Bug Gribble/Juan Pedro and say, Dale/Hank/Bill/Boom? Especially with someone whose masculinity is as fraught as Dale, who gets told he's too emotional, too clingy, or gets naked too often to dig in his friend's "friendship holes"? :P

But yeah. There's my piece of Bug. I want to draw something of him as a gay cowboy like the pieces I did for Lipstick Lesbian Peggy and rainbow Bill. Just something to highlight the interesting strangely-woke characters we get in KOTH!
