Haven't made a text post in a while, mainly because I was thinking about writing one about this but kept on putting it off until I decided what I really thought/had more experience with the bulletproof coffee/diet. This has ended up being a longer post because I have been putting off writing so I'm making it a read more:

I've started reading about the bulletproof diet recently and it's really challenging a lot of what I've thought was healthy in the past. It's hard because I feel a little overwhelmed with information/opinions from people that support the diet etc. I'm trying to take small steps at a time with it though and decide what I think is supported well by evidence and not just claims that aren't backed up.

Bullet proof coffee has been interesting. The one main thing I have noticed is that i haven't experience ANY of the normal down after the coffee which is usually experience with cheap coffee supposedly from the mycotoxins. The other thing I think is working is the performance. It's hard to tell if it is actually working with the MCT oil but I do feel slightly more alert and perform slightly better mentally with the oil, however it is hard to tell with the placebo effect as well!

I haven't been taking it everyday... just alternate days. I do understand the benefit of the grass fed butter and everything but I'm just not sure about the caffeine/coffee part. I'm not completely sold that coffee EVERY morning can be good for you and am slightly concerned about the build up of caffeine in the body and its effect on my skin?

The other thing i've tried to change is my breakfast. I don't think I can go without breakfast, particularly as I workout 5 days a week but I am eating less and I think I'm going to try and eat less grains (so stop the granola). I'm not convinced that oats are particularly bad for you though. I always thought they were a fairly clean form of carb to have in the mornings. Must admit the other day when I only had a small amount of oats and a coffee in the morning I did feel somehow lighter and not so heavy? but it could just be the quantity rather than the form of my breakfast so not so sure.

As I was riding a bus yesterday, I was listening to The Bulletproof Executive podcast. The guest was an amazing entrepreneur Peter Sage, who I love. Although I've already listened to that interview before, this time I found more interesting things and I would like to share one particular idea with you. Peter is big on taking responsibility for your emotional state. He believes that no matter what people do to you (purposely or not), you are the one to decide the meaning of these events. Only you can trigger an emotional response in your body. This is an amazing thing to be aware of because you can realize that only you have the power to affect your emotional state.

Ask other questions. Be present enough to ask intelligent and smart questions. “What’s really going on here?” is a great question. “What is the agenda that’s happening right now?” “What does this really mean?” Because most people, again, are walking around offering themselves to be emotionally manipulated and have no clue. Trust me, there’s a lot of smart people out there right now that get hired by a lot of corporations that pay very handsomely to figure out how to press your buttons.

If you’re allowing your buttons to be pressed without saying, “Whoa, hang on a minute.” … When you come to the awareness that nobody can do anything to you emotionally without your permission you start to understand levels of freedom of thought and freedom of response. The challenge is most people don’t like responsibility to be able to do that because they hold responsibility as a way to feel good. It’s kind of extra burden. “I have enough responsibility for my family,” but stop and have a look at the word for a second, “Responsibility” The ability to respond.

If you want to take responsibility for your own emotional reactions, if you want to take responsibility for you own quality of life, your own quality of experience, it’s got nothing to do with whether you’re driving the car you want. Everything to do with a moment-by-moment appreciation of the fact that nobody can do anything to you emotional without your permission.

Meals like this make me proud of my cooking-for-one prowess. Salisbury steak variation: 1/2lb ground (grass-fed/finished, with 10% liver, 10% heart, 15-20% fat) fine chop leek - 1.5 tbsp find chop parsley - 1 tsp tomato paste - 1 tsp smoked sea salt - 1-2 tsp 3/4 tsp rosemary 1/2 tsp sage -- mix all together, form into patty, cook in good oil (used unrefined coconut oil), semi-covered in a stainless steel pan until partly cooked... at the same time, cooked some oddly-chopped zucchini (oddly chopped for variation in texture once cooked); flip zuke when flipping "steak." Once mostly cooked, moved to a plate (note: the good dishes), alongside some unpasteurized sauerkraut. Beurre blanc sauce: 1/4 cup white wine 2 tbsp good butter 1 egg yolk -- de-glaze pan with the wine, let cook for a minute, melt-in and whisk the butter in... once combined, add in the yolk and whisk quickly (this should be over a medium-low heat)... strain the sauce with the whisk while pouring over the "steak." One pan, one man, one proper meal.

Dinner Like Sex

"So, started my experience tonight with IR cooking a 14oz'ish grass-fed, free-range, but grain-finished and aged rib-eye steak. Started-in on that, just gnawing it apart off my cutting board. Then started dipping it into balsamic vinegar. Eating this with my hands, by the way. And started really getting into it when I hit the fatty parts on the steak. In the meanwhile, I'm sautéing some savoy(?) cabbage in mct oil, with leek-whites. Then added-in some red palm oil and a bunch of salt. Added some fine-cubed zuke, and at the end, wilted-in some chopped parsley. Finished that with a little bit of unpasteurized sauerkraut. I had been soaking some of the steak in balsamic and EVOlive oil, and tossed that in. Devoured that tasty mix. Threw some water and white vinegar into my sauté pan, with all those nice flavours, and finished my meal with two de-glaz-water-poached free-range eggs with Kerrygold butter and runny yolks everywhere.
