Bull trout have lived in Glacier's lakes for thousands of years. They are a key predator in our aquatic ecosystem and an important part of the angling heritage of the area.

Currently, their numbers are threatened by lake trout that prey on them and out-compete them for resources. These non-native fish were introduced to Flathead Lake in the early 1900s and made their way into several west-side lakes in the park. In addition, bull trout require very cold water to survive, so warming temperatures are another concern.

In the case of many native species, including bull trout, they may face extinction if the park doesn't take action. Managers have made tough decisions to preserve the population, like gill netting to remove the lake trout and building barriers to prevent their spread. 

What benefits do you see from preserving native fish?
