Thank you! Love the high-res textures. Lately, I have been on a swap-out as many low-res textures as possible kick.

Ohhhhhh, then you are either going to love me or want to murder me in my sleep. Possibly both. :)

But yeah, I decided I wanted all the things high-res for this new Strangetown project. Mostly because I’m going to be photo-editing all the pictures and I want things as nice-looking as possible to start with and not have to worry about pixellation in the background if I’m taking close-ups and stuff. So, that means I have to make a lot of crap since I’m pretty much building a downloads folder from the ground up for it. Build mode first, since I’ll be building lots for the place soon...

One can never have enough paneling!

That’s my feeling! It’s versatile! You can use it inside as paneling or outside as vertical siding. Both were big mid-century, which is pretty much what I’ll be building so...yeah. One sets of walls, multiple purposes.

They do when you have that fire hydrant that makes car pool vehicles drive by occasionally! I’m not using that in this neighborhood, though. Not yet, anyway. I don’t reckon it has much vehicle traffic, what with there being only three households and all. :)

That's such a creative idea to make Sim paintings out of it! I love hanging art or photography in my Sims homes that are of their own world, it adds a kind of realism I appreciate! Just like we would hang photos or paintings of our own world.

I have always kinda wanted to do the “take in-game pics and turn them into family pictures” thing...but I’ve never actually done it. One, because I just don’t have the patience to do posing. Two, because even if I had the patience I’m utterly bewildered by poseboxes. Like, how on Earth do you keep track of which box has what poses? Especially because most of them “helpfully” give the poses names like “Pose 1.” I’m just all WTF when it comes to them. 

But I can do scenery pics as paintings/photos, yeah!

Exactly! That’s why I really didn’t want to be a musician when I grew up! I wanted to be an architect! Unfortunately, math and I have that whole hate/hate relationship going on, so no architecture degree for me! And, as it turns out, music is the only bankable talent I have, given that I have no interest in having a “real job” with bosses and stuff because I’d just get my ass fired if I tried to have one. So, here we are! Thankfully, it didn’t kill my lurve. Probably because it’s such a wide-ranging field, so if you hammer on one aspect of it as your job, there are all sorts of other things you can do for fun.

I had to look intensely to see what you were talking about. I do notice that in my game and I think of it as realism. Because you can see the lines between panels and breadths of wallpaper IRL.

Well, yeah, I can see that with wallpaper. It does have seams IRL, at least. But for flat painted walls, where the “gradient thing” is the most noticeable because there’s otherwise no pattern to distract your eye? Yeah, that doesn’t work as well. :) *still busily hurling invective at Maxis and their stupid lighting calculations and going why, why, WHYYYYYYYYY?!*

What a fun idea! Who doesn't love the technicolor look?

I love, love, love old movies, with a special fondness for B-movies from the 50s/60s done on the cheap with bad Technicolor when Technicolor was no longer cool. So, yeah, I love the look, myself, whether it’s done well or badly. I think it’ll be fun to photoedit pics for retro-Strangetown.

I kinda wonder if it might be possible to get ReShade to make the game itself look like it’s in Technicolor, but I’ve never managed to get ReShade to work with my TS2 install, so I can’t experiment with that. :(

I'd love to see how anon's game looks to see what is "stepping it up" in their books but I bet they're too much coward to give their name for us to see. And anyway, isn't half of the point in Sims games customizing it to look how *you* want *your* game to look like or have I been doing it wrong all these years?

Yeah, it’s kind of funny how such people who leave such messages don’t give you any points of reference. “Stepping it up” is meaningless without such things. I mean, how else are we to know if we’re “stepping it up” properly? 

No, really, I think some people are just really offended by non-Maxis-match and/or using older CC and/or shinier hair/skin textures these days. But, I’m uninterested in Maxis-match (for my own game; I like looking at other Maxis-matchers’ pics, though!), and I like a bit of shine because we do not live in a matte/cartoony world, so such folks and me will just never see eye-to-eye when it comes to game aesthetics. And that’s OK by me, but apparently not by them. Or something. I’m still going with “bottle of whiskey + nothing better to do on a Friday night so let’s *hurr hurr* try to make people angry” theory. To each their own!

Ah! I needed this too! I always hated the sourdough we used to make because it was way too tangy (hubby loved it though). He works for a German company and one of the managers offered him some of her 100+ year old starter. I'll have to give it a shot.

Oh, yeah, totally. I’d definitely take her up on her offer. Even if it’s not to your taste to start, you can futz with it. You could even split it and develop a tangier starter and a not-so-tangy one, to suit both your tastes. ‘Course, then you’ve got double the upkeep, but it might be worth it...

That’s a good spot, too! The fridges in our places are built-ins, though, so you can’t put stuff on top of them. Which actually sort of sucks, but on the other hand the aesthetics of built-ins please me, so....Rock, hard place. ;)

Pretty much, yeah. Ya gotta wonder how anyone would think that such a demand would actually work, that anyone would just change everything about what they do in the game because some people don’t like their aesthetic. I mean, it’s not like those of us who don’t conform to “popular” trends are somehow unaware that we’re not conforming to popular treads. Especially when our general pattern in life is being deliberate in our refusal to conform to popular trends about anything, not just a silly game. ;)

Hi iCad! I was wondering if you ever considered making a tutorial about how to make objects visible in neighborhood view? I know you've done a few tutorials about other things, but couldn't find anything about this :)

Hey there! :)

Nope, I have not done a tutorial for that, but I can, sure. I’ll try to put something together in the next few days. In the meantime, if you’re looking at a custom object and are relatively familiar with SimPE, the instructions I followed to do it are here. It’s really not hard to do at all. If you want to futz with Maxis objects, it’s a little more involved.

(Answering publicly in case others might be wondering how to do this. :) Hope you don’t mind!)

I like it! I was thinking not so long ago about how so many neighbourhoods are filled with trees, and it looks great (I'm such a fan of trees), but there are a lot of real life places more open less "tree-y" and there's a different kind of lonely beauty in that expansiveness too.

Well, aren’t you poetic? :) No, seriously, I’m a desert girl. I like lush landscapes as much as the next person...for a time. Like for a vacation. But when it comes to day-to-day living...Yeah, I like desert. Or at least arid, since where I usually live is not really desert but is only a notch or two above it in terms of rainfall. It’s got the desert soil, dry and clay-y and colorful, but it has more plant life, albeit mostly in the form of scrub and trees that can tolerate less water, like junipers and aspens and scrub oak and some species of pine. Ponderosas, mainly. Also, it has permanent rivers/streams thanks mostly to snowmelt, as opposed to riverbeds that only have water in them for a short time after there’s been a storm. Methinks I’ll be building a river in this neighborhood, too. Just not sure where, since with the way I’m doing it, it can’t overlap actual playable lots but CAN wind between them, with careful Lot Adjusting...

Anyway, yeah, since I’m currently in San Francisco, which is the opposite of desert, and probably will be for a while, I’m homesick. So, we attempt to build something home-like in my game... I’m really thankful for @ousmeo‘s scrub oak neighborhood deco. It’s making the place look much more authentic. :)

Thanks! I do like to build elaborate master baths. :) They’re probably my favorite rooms to make, actually, likely because they’re my favorite rooms to live in IRL, too. (Mmmmm, Jacuzzi tubs and rain showers and....) It’s usually hard to take pictures of them because they end up so compartmentalized. though. That one had a little more room to move the camera around in.

Yeah, I know. Thing is, I haven’t switched to your repositoried version of the set yet. (At least, I think it was you who repo’d it. :) ) And I’m not sure I want to because I only ever use like three pieces of the set and I don’t want all the other pieces cluttering up my catalog and I don’t want to have to go through and change out the doors/windows I’ve already used on lots. Sooooo, I have to decide if I want to get the repo’d set and prune the slaved pieces I don’t use and replace doors/windows in houses (or change out GUIDs, maybe) OR if I just want to go ahead and recolor those three pieces I use in the non-repo’d original set. Decisions, decisions. :)

Thanks! It is a lot like the “landscaping” (Which is really more like anti-landscaping) at my place at home. Also, it looks a lot better since I made most of the stuff I used visible in the neighborhood view. I guess it wasn’t because it’s mostly all cloned from deco flowers, oddly enough, and not trees/shrubs. Which is nice because no maintenance needed. (I can’t imagine having to “water” all that stuff! LOL) But yeah, no neighborhood view by default. But at least I know how to fix that. :)

I love all the plants! The planters on the windows is an awesome idea.

I kinda love plant shelves. I have one halfway up the window wall of my house, so it’s something I do when I build window walls in-game. True, in my house the plants on it are all fake because IRL I have a black thumb and my house is the place where plants go to die, but... :) Of course, the bad thing about fake plants is that you have to dust them. I don’t know which is more of a pain: Maintaining real plants or dusting fake ones...

Aw, thank you! :D I just get these crazy ideas sometimes and want to see if they’ll work. I originally got the game just to build stuff in it and, to this day, I still enjoy building/decorating neighborhoods a little more than I enjoy actually playing them. I guess it’s why I do BACCs so that I’m forced to build as I play instead of just getting absorbed in building and forgetting all about the playing part.

Yes, I FINALLY got around to fixing those alleys! I use them all the time in downtowns but I always sorta forget that, as is, you can’t place them on lots. So when I went to use them, I usually ended up screaming and cursing. But...no more! :)

Yeah, me too!  I mean, usually I use them in “blocks” of neighborhood deco when a downtown in “under construction” (and when is a downtown NOT under construction? :) ), so it isn’t so bad...unless there’s a road nearby, since it seems that something can be pretty far away from a road, but the game still insists that it IS on the road. But it’d be nice to use them on buildings that actually ARE under construction, and for that, they need to be able to go on lots, too. Also, they’re nice-looking, especially in lot view. They’re probably, like, insanely high-poly, but..,meh. :)

Yeah, this is the only set that I know of that’ll build window walls. I kinda wish there were more window meshes in the set, honestly. As in, more differently-angled pieces that would work with different roof pitches. If I knew how to mesh... *sigh*

It’s impossible to choose one, because I love everybody that makes awesome stuff I can use. I also love it when somebody just gives CC creation a go! But, if I had to really narrow it down, I’d have to say: Skell, Bunhead, Trapping, SerenityFall, Veranka and Selenaq13. Pretty sure I’ve downloaded most of these people’s stuff. XD

6 - Simblr crush.

Jasmine! Her simblr is my anti-depressant for not being able to play TS3 fully anymore. Also, she’s an absolute sweetie and has helped me with some game issues in the past, which is awesome!

Also, if it weren’t for her Mac help page, I wouldn’t be able to play TS3 at all!

7 - Your Lifetime Achievement from the game. 

Does this mean like the Lifetime want or whatever a Sim has? Lol, if so, then I’m pretty sure mine is something along the lines of ‘Earn §100,000’ or ‘Reach Golden Anniversary’. I’m a Fortune/Family Sim, most definitely. 

As for any other ‘real’ achievements, I’d say having nearly played the game for a decade (it will be exactly 10 years in 2015), is a pretty big achievement, non?

That hair was made for her! She’s one of the premades that I have the hardest time with. There something so akward about her face. But I miss the sculpture on her head ;D

I think her face needed something choppy with bangs to take away from her pitched eyes (which is an affliction affecting several Belladona Covians, don't you think?) and her threehead. I hope she improves with age. Hahaha! You guys wanting me to keep a nonsensical glitch around. Don't you know I take this game SERIOUSLY?!
