BANGTANWRITERSHQ PRESENTS: “Fairytales of Grimm: Lost In The Magic Shop” MASTERLIST

Walking into the old bookshop on the corner of Serendipity Lane and Singularity Road, the eerie silence paired with the swirls of dust in the streams of sunlight cast a peculiar sense of foreboding along your spine. Margo’s Idyllic Shop, named for the owner, Margo, is one of your favorite places to disappear into–mostly because you can disappear into a good book. Growing up, stories like “Pied Piper of Bangtan” and “Not Today, Wicked Witch” were your favorite. You loved how the writers spun a tale that had a deeper, hidden meaning, sometimes a warning, others a lesson. As an adult, your tastes in tales have morphed a little, with characters like the Pied Piper becoming less scary and more…intriguing. Sitting in the worn leather chair, hours pass before you realize the sun has set. The dim lighting of the room chases you out onto the sidewalk, with shadows reaching towards you as you exit. You realize you never saw another person in the shop today. How…strange. Looking back at the store, you remind yourself to tell Margo that she needs to fix the lightbulbs in her sign, for the name lit up at night simply reads MAGIC SHOP.

With fall weather as the perfect setting for something cozy and romantic, chilling and haunting, or both, for the 4th Quarter of 2025, we wanted to see our lovely members come up with an original fairytale or retelling of a Brothers Grimm fairytale. These cautionary tales could be pure fluff or harbor something far more dark and sinister. Happy endings and animal guides not required.

“Woooowwww baaabbeee!!! This view is gorgeous!” You immediately walk out onto the balcony to capture the view in its entirety. He slips his arms around your waist from behind.

“Of course it is. Only the best for you, nae sarang.” He softly kisses your neck.

“I hope you didn’t spend too much. You know we could’ve stayed somewhere cheap…it doesn’t matter to me.”

“Yes, I know. Expensive isn’t your style…but let me spoil you at least a few times a year.”

“I guess I can allow that.” You point to a place in the distance, “let’s go there! I have seen it in all the tourist pamphlets!”

“Now!? Can we eat first?” He whines while going to look for the room service menu.

“You’re hungry again!? Yoongi, this will be your 20th meal.” You groan, rolling your eyes.

“You keep me very busy on what’s supposed to be down time.”

“No no. You are the one who can’t keep your hands to yourself.” You laugh as he is on your waist again.

“Mmmm…ok maybe that’s true,” he slowly kisses your neckline down to your shoulder, “but when you’re this beautiful all the time, how can I keep my hands to myself?” He leans in and kisses you deeply. Your hands slide around his neck and play with his hairline.

You start to giggle and ask, “Please tell me you planned for us to leave the room…we cannot stay in here all day, every day.”

“Our first day is for relaxing. I booked a late lunch picnic, so we have some time,” he says smiling.

“Time for what? Can we go exploring? There’s so much to see!”

“We will do everything you want my love, but right now, I need a snack.” He pulls you off the balcony into the room. Walking backwards to the bed, he sits and pulls you on top of him.

“Oh this kind of snack. You’re hungry for me?” You shyly smile and hike your dress up to straddle him easier.

You pace by the window, any little noise outside causing you to stop and peer in every direction through the glass pane. You glance at the clock for what must be the hundredth time; it’s only been two minutes since the last time you checked.
