the skatepark hadn't changed. it never did. in all eight years i had been here, not once did anything change. i would have been thankful for a new broken window at this rate but no: simply, nothing ever changed.
that morning i had woken up, grabbed the block of chalk that was settled next to the block of wax and drawn another line on the shortest wall. stepping back, i had looked at it all, seeing that it was nearly ready to move onto another room. there was one for every single day i had been there. it was just something to do each day that wasn't skating, and helped me keep track of how long i had been here, even if i'd forgotten the exact number. and it stopped me from going insane. probably.
thoughout the day, i had thrown myself off the edge of the tallest half-pipe at least ten times. i had learnt yet another trick, perfected it, and then climbed up the walls to the ceiling, hung from the fixtures and then dropped from them to celebrate. alas, still not pain. i didn't scar anymore, i didn't get bruises or cuts anymore. it was as if i was completely untouchable now.
but it was nearing the end of the day when it happened. when one by ne, the wood that blocked up the windows slid down and crashed against the floor. the first one had made me jump to the floor prematurely, but even when i didn't know, i didn't take any damage.
at first, i was too scared to leave. they had never given me a chance to leave before, what if it was a trap? or a test? it could simply be some sick, cruel joke made to ruin my life even more than it had already been ruined.
but then the metal double doors swung open, and a blinding light was let in.
still, i didn't want to leave. still, i didn't trust it but it didn't matter. they didn't care. it was as if i was being dragged through the doors, into the blinding light. i was on the other side of the warehouse, though, and due to my hesitance and resistance against the force, it took too long for their patience so the ceiling simply started falling in. first it was the strip lighting, then the lighting fixtures but somehow i had managed to dodge all of that. until each plank in the ceiling was slowly falling down.
one of them, of course, hit me on the head and knocked me out. but it hurt. it actually hurt and for the first time in eight years i felt pain.
when i woke up, the first thing i saw was daylight. a blinding, seething hot sun against my skin but it was still feeling things. it was still incredible. slowly, i sat up, the grin on my face growning wider and wider against my lips as the feeling of the grass beneath me processed. my eyes opened and i was in a forest, but at the edge of it, and laying against a hill.
and there was a voice. many of them, actually, all chanting something incoherant but definitely the same thing over and over again. and it was almost certainly coming from the inside of the moutain.
swiftly, faster and with more motivation than i had had in years, i pulled myself up off the ground and dug through the grass. using my bare hands to pull at the dirt and grime, getting it in my fingernails but not caring because there were people. only, it opened up into a small starter base. there wasn't much there, simply a crafting table, furnace and a selection of chests with basic survival tools in there but the chanting had gotten louder. there must be a cave somewhere then.
in the corner there was a hole. there was a ladder attatched to it so deep that i couldn't see the bottom but the people were down there. there were chants echoing up from down it, so i descended the latter, listening for the voices that got louder and louder the further i got down.
a large cavern but revealled, with so many signs of life i could almost cry. i knew i was definitely in the right place so i scaled down the levels and stairs to the very bottom, spotting the large group of people that i couldn't identify. it didn't matter if it wasn't my friends because they were people. after years and years of complete solitude there were finally people that i could talk to and socialise with.
but it was better than i could have imagined. it was my friends. they were the people i had grown to know and love like i had never before.
wilbur, standing taller than most of them, turned around at the sound of feet on the stares and although the look on his face was worry at first, when he saw it was me his face lit up.
"y/n!" he cried, and everyone spun around, fast enough to give them whiplash but there was only one person i wanted to see. i pushed past everyone, wilbur catching my arm and look down at me. "y/n, you might not want to see this."
my eyebrows furrowed immediately, the grin on my face dropping at his words. "see what?"
"don't."
"wilbur." i warned. "i don't care." and i pushed passed him, nearly falling into the pit but being pulled back by wilbur again. then, i could see everything.
it was tommy and technoblade, fighting again, like i made him promise he wouldn't, but it wasn't even going well. tommy was cowered into a corner with techno punching him again and again. my heart was being pulled, insinctively i jumped into the pit, wrapping my arms around techno and pulling him off tommy, facing him and pointing, not even bothering to say hi to tommy.
"why the fuck would you do that! you broke pit rules!"techno shouts, standing up and pulling himself toegther.
"y/n?" i could barely hear him.
"you were going to kill him, techno!" i shouted. "i don't care about fucking pit rules! he's on his last life and i won't let him go through what i did!"
"y/n!"
"i just got back." i told him, calming my voice and explaining. "i don't want to come back to find the love of my life dead in a ditch because of some stupid fight rules, techno. why were you even fighting in the first place?"
tommy must have stood up, but it made me jump when he placed a hand on my shoulder. "y/n, fucking turn around! "
and finally i did. spun around on the balls of my feet to look at the one person I'd missed more than the sun. more than the feeling of pain or happiness, I'd missed him more than I thought humanly possible and here he was standing in front of me, a black eye slowly forming but safe, and alive like I made him promise he would stay.
"tommy."
his hand moved to my cheek, a look of disbelief in those gorgeous eyes, his other palm clutching mine like his life depended on it. "is it you? did it work? is this real?"
"i think it is. i don't know how, or why, or even if this is real or if we're both hallucinating but I don't care. oh, tommy."
and if I were to say I missed one thing more than anything else while I was dead, rotting away in a warehouse alone, it would be the feeling of his arms wrapped around my waist, his nose buried in my neck and the warmth, the pure radiating warmth that came from him that made me feel so alive. more alive than when I had woken up from death.
"fuck, i love you." he mumbled into my neck, the feeling of hot tears against the skin.
it made me pull myself off him, looking up at the boy that was so much more than a survivor, and certainly much more than mine simply mine. i reached up and wiped the tears from his cheeks, everyone else having been zoned out, as if they weren't even there because all that matter was that i was back, i was back and everything was okay for now. i had the love of my life back, and everything was okay. everything would be okay.
i squeezed his hand. "i'm never leaving again, tommy. i promise with my life that I will never leave again. if death tries to take me i will drag it to hell and storm right back to you, okay? you never have to worry again."

the wind gently pushed its way between the blades of grass, playing a low whistle. mixed into the soft sage blades, small white flowers danced in the wind, leaves and petals swaying in a rhythm.
between it all sat a blonde teenager, eyes somber and posture hunched. he was looking into the distance as if he was searching for something to magically appear and comfort him, give him an answer, just anything. although no tears threatened to spill, his eyes were glossy, reflecting the rolling hills in front of him.
you gently stepped your way over, the grass creating small crunch sounds for every step. as you stood besides him, you decided to stay silent, taking a seat beside him instead, allowing tommy to break the silence.
it was a low whisper, barely heard over the gentle wind.
“y/n- what did i do? i- i brought back wilbur for fuck’s sake..”
keeping your gaze in front of you, you knew tommy was hurt, broken, vulnerable, he hated people seeing him like this. reaching down to fiddle with the tufts of grass, avoiding ripping them up, you answer carefully.
“well it wasn’t exactly you tommy, it was dream’s fault-”
tommy’s voice raised slightly, anger seeping through his syllables.
“but i could’ve killed dream! wilbur would’ve stayed as ghostbur and-”
his voice faltered, breaking into a silent anger. shifting your gaze to the field around you, you got up off your spot, reaching out to gently pull at the stems of the bloomed flowers.
tommy’s gaze tore away from the hills, following your figure. he silently watched you gather flowers until you deemed there were a sufficient amount. instead of taking your previous spot, you plop down in front of tommy, crossing your legs underneath one another.
reaching out, you grab tommy’s hand to have his palm face upwards, placing a couple flowers in it. releasing his hand, you begin to weave the flowers you had saved for yourself slowly, allowing tommy to watch.
wrapping up the last of the chain, you reach it out in front of tommy, admiring your craftsmanship. deciding it was satisfactory, you motion tommy to tilt his head down to place the finished flower crown on his head, tangling slightly in his blonde locks.
you smile softly, speaking your thoughts in a quiet voice, the somber mood still in the air.
“i know it’s not much and i can’t reverse time- but flower crowns make me happy and i thought you might like it. also- i think we got this, it’s not like we haven’t been through chaos before, right?”
tommy cracked a small grin, speaking up for the second time that afternoon.
“thanks y/n, i appreciate it, you’re the best friend i never knew i needed- can you show me again how you did it? i want to make you one as well.”
brightening up, you begin to weave the other flowers into a chain, allowing tommy to finish the rest.
the completed product wasn’t as clean as the first, but the pure white flowers blended together in a stunning way that hid all the imperfections. tilting your head towards tommy, he places it on top of your head, happy with himself.
“thanks again y/n.”
“anytime, there’s nothing we can’t take on. what is that phrase you use? “i ain’t a pussy”.“
tommy let out light audible chuckles, extending his fist to give you a fist bump. lightly bumping your knuckles against his, you return his grin.

Ranboo and [YourName] both lived on a farm together, a little calf often following [YourName]. “Don’t stay too far from the farm.” Ranboo warned his sibling, “I won’t!” they replied with their calf following right behind them. Then, they did, they stayed too far. In a panic, they came across a hot-headed blond named Tommy. [YourName] held Tommy’s hand while they wandered the large farmland, “Where is your brother?” Tommy asked in disgust, “I dunno..” [YourName] whined. Then, in a rush, Ranboo teleported in front of the two “Ranboo!” [YourName] said. “Thank you, Tommy..” Ranboo said, holding his sibling close.

“tommy! you can’t add drugs to the cookies!” you shouted at the teenager. he only laughed loudly back, laughter mixed with a whine to his words, “but why not?” his words were drawled out, hovering a potion over the batter.
before he could drop the potion in you nudged him, harshly, away from the bowl, shaking your head. “we’re giving this to the others as a thank you, not to drug them up and rob them you little raccoon thief.” you snickered, waving your wooden spoon at him. some of the batter that had clung to the spoon swung off, a tiny piece of it hitting tommy’s shirt.
both of you froze, pausing when the batter hit tommy. he glanced down at his shirt before looking up at you, staring. “shit, fuck um- sorry tommy i didn’t mean for the batter to hit you-” the teenager quickly silenced you by making a mad dash for the bowl of batter, grabbing a handful and launching it at you.
the cookie batter smacked against your arm, and tommy burst out laughing at your shocked expression. slowly you blinked before grinning, “oh it’s on fucker- '' you quickly grabbed the batter sliding down your arm, launching it at tommy. he ducked just in time, lugging another small ball of cookie dough at you that you amazingly dodged.
it was a war of its own, you finding a few things of eggs to throw at tommy since he had the whole bowl of batter. suddenly he started throwing the dough at you like he was rapidly firing a bow, and you ducked behind a counter in order to dodge the fire. you glanced up at the ceiling, giving yourself a silent prayer before taking an egg. when his fire ceased you popped out from the side rather than above, throwing the egg at his forehead.
the egg made a cracking sound, splattering against his head, some of it even getting in his hair. he stumbled back like he’d been shot, gasping while dropping the bowl of batter. you cheered at your victory, neglecting the fact batter had stuck to your table and counter, and shirt. “suck it dickwad! i won this war!”
he laughed loudly, sitting up from where he’d ‘collapsed’, “yeah right you fuckin did! i’ll get you next time bitch!” together you laughed, tommy’s louder than yours. after a few moments you paused, glancing around your ruined kitchen.

a/n | didn't think I'd get something out before gcse's started but here we are. won't see you for a few weeks because of gcse's but with my (lack of) dedication to them you might get something...
the zombie fell to the ground as the last of my arrows flew into its dead flesh, finishing the job off. it’s death revealed the two boys standing behind it, brows furrowed at the sight of me, jaws slightly ajar. i simply lifted a hand up to my nose to wipe the blood away on my sleeve, which now had a deep rip in it from the cut of one of their arrows. i hadn’t seen which one had shot it but i’d find out.
one of them was much taller than the other. brown hair and a long beige coat dangling from the lanky figure. he had a number of scars thrashed across his face, a large noticeable one across his cheek and a sword hung against his back, backpack held at his side, probably only with the belongings the two of them had.
the other one was blonde, and much shorter than the other. they didn’t look alike enough to be brothers but i had an odd feeling they were. he had a red ringer shirt on, and trousers that were ripped beyond belief. this obviously wasn’t the first time they had gotten into a little bit of trouble, and i‘m guessing the last time they didn’t have me to save them.
either way, for some reason they both looked as if they were in awe of me.
“you’re welcome.” i murmured, sniffing and walking to the zombie corpse to collect the arrows.
the shorter one stuttered before gathering his words and speaking. “who are you? what team are you on? where did you come from? how have we never seen you before?”
“the names’s y/n, i don’t know anything about fucking teams or any of that shit, can’t remember where i’m from and i could not tell you. i travel a lot so you’ve probably not had a chance to bump into me.” i answered bluntly, not trusting either of them and wanting to leave as soon as possible. their lack of equipment did not match their look, since it seemed like they had been away from any good base in a while.
“i’m tommy.”
“goodbye tommy.” i scoff at the boy, even though he was probably the same age as me. “i’ve got places to be.”
the taller one that hadn’t spoken stepped forward. “you don’t look like you’ve got places to be, y/n.”
“and who might you be?”
“i’m wilbur.” he stuck his hand out and i shook it, looking up at him. “we’re from a nation called l’manburg, it’s an honour to meet you.”
“it’s not an honour to meet you.” i send him a sickeningly sweet smile and pull my hand away. “now if you don’t mind, i really don’t care who you are nor where you come from, i’m just trying to survive and quite frankly, i’d like to leave.”
wilbur laughed a little under his breath, and was about to speak but was quickly pulled to the side by his younger, dragging him behind the nearest tree he could find. obviously, he thought taking him behind a tree would mean that i couldn’t hear him, which was blatantly incorrect.
“recruit her? to fucking what?”
“i think we should recruit her.” tommy spoke.
“to l’manburg, will! she’s obviously on her own and we know she’s good with that bow, unlike some of us. she could help us.”
“to l’manburg, tommy?”
“you literally nearly begged niki to join us and moped around when she said no. give me one disadvantage of her joining us. i bet you can’t find one.” the blonde insisted.
“how can we trust her? dream might have sent her to infiltrate l’manburg.”
“he has no reason to be suspicious of us, he has no need to send her, or anyone at that. i’m sure she’s trustworthy. anyway, why would she have saved us from that zombie if she wanted us dead?” he asked rhetorically. “come on, you know you can’t say no to me.”
there was a small moment of silence before wilbur audibly sighed and spoke again. “fine, but if she’s a spy, or does anything to give l’manburg a disadvantage then it’s on you.”
the two of them come out from behind the tree, tommy with a wide grin on his face and wilbur with a not so happy looking frown. they had no idea i could hear all of that conversation, so i giggled a little when tommy eagerly asked the question.
“i’ll take it.”
“did you want to come back to our nation and stay with us?” he phrased it, hand resting on the sword he had nestled into the holster at his hip.
“to l’manburg?” i asked, grinning gleefully at my mimic of wilbur’s words. their faces went a little pale, each jaw dropping slightly as they realised that i had heard, but i just laughed slightly. “why should i?”
“because you look like you need a friend. and we haven’t got much ourselves but any help is welcome.” he spoke, sending me a soft smile that for some reason i had to return.
i couldn’t control it. i hadn’t smiled in weeks, the last time being when i’d found a small rabbit that needed taking care of, and yet here i was smiling at this boy that had just offered me a place to stay. such a big part of me was sceptical of the two, but why would they offer me clarity if they only planned to run me over later? they wouldn’t. and i really did need the help. i hadn’t eaten in ages and my arrows weren’t going to last much longer. i’m sure these people had good protection back at whatever nation they hailed from. it would be fine. so i decided to trust them.
“okay. sure. i’ll come with you.”
“yes!” tommy grinned, wilbur rolling his eyes at the younger’s excitement.
“on one condition.” i raised an eyebrow at tommy as he slowed, cautious of what my condition would be. “you don’t kill me and leave me in a ditch.”
tommy laughed, and i felt a little spark at his laugh. it had been a long time since i’d made someone laugh. “it’s a deal.” he stuck out his hand for me to shake. “i won’t kill you and leave you in a ditch.”
i shook his hand and nodded, smiling up at him continuously.
wilbur cleared his throat. “if you two are done, the sun’s setting, we need to get back before it gets dark.”
“we’re done, will, don’t worry. come on y/n, to l’manburg!”
i laughed again, and followed the two of them as they headed off towards whatever nation that they were from, wilbur ahead of tommy as the younger one waited back for me to catch up. yeah, he really didn’t want to leave me behind. for once i was thankful that someone didn’t want to leave me behind.
summary (slight!au for convenience, really) tommy grew up in fear of the man he never truly knew. but as he grew older and old secrets come into light during the development of l’manburg, tommy searches for answers about the name that many no longer say.
warning swearing, mentions of murder
a/n yes, this was totally to feed my simultaneous dream smp and encanto addictions. no further questions (it’s got a slow start but i promise it gets better!!!!)

“send tommy to the basement, they said,” tommy mimicked, his voice high pitched in his muttering despite mocking his father’s words. he opened the loud door to the basement of his childhood home. “he can find it, they said.” he huffed out, flicking at the light switch. nothing happened. he flickered at it a few more times before groaning out. “you’re fucking kidding.”
he rubbed a hand down his face as he stared into the darkness of the basement, the wooden stairs the only thing visible to him at that angle. still, his chest filled with childish fear.
tommy sighed. “stupid technoblade and his stupid birthday..” he began down the stairs, still rambling angrily to himself. “why would he want to look through that stupid journal anyway? he probably couldn’t understand anything that’s written in there anyway..” he groaned again at the sea of boxes awaiting him. “im the best fucking brother ever for this.”
he weaved through the dusty boxes, squinting at the old sharpie to make out what was written on them while muttering about how wilbur owed him. it took him ten minutes before he finally made out a faint ‘technoblade’ on a pile of boxes. he sighed again heavily, dropping to his knees and getting to the real search.
it would have been a nice, nostalgic feeling going through them had it not been for the layers of dust that kicked into his face at every other thing he pulled out of the boxes. finally, after sneezing and coughing more than he had in his entire life, tommy found a box of old books and journals.
he grabbed out the journals--three small books with a child’s shorthand proclaiming ‘techno’ on the front of it. tommy smiled slightly, feeling a small weight lift off his shoulders. he was about to open one, take a look at young technoblade’s thoughts, when he heard something fall behind him.
his head immediately snapped over, eyes drawn to a shining object that caught the slight glint of light in the dark basement. he tucked the journals under his arm and cautiously headed over to the object.
kneeling down by it, tommy realized it was an old disc peeking out of its cover. he slipped it back in before picking up the casing. he nearly dropped it again when he saw what was written on.
‘FROM DREAM’
growing up, dream was a household name for tommy. from his brother’s scheming of rising up and breaking dream’s tyrannical foundation, to the fight for l’manburg itself, tommy grew to live in fear of the man he had only met twice; once, he was too young to remember, and again when the man threatened his life on his own doorstep. and yet, that was still years ago.
so why was a disc with his name on it in their basement?
tommy held it up to the light more, blood rushing loudly in his ears. when he saw what else was written, he actually did drop the disc, yelping as though it had burned him.
‘TO TOMMY’
tommy knelt down slowly, his breathing suddenly heavy with the fear that filled his chest. his hands were shaking as he went to grasp the disc, seeing it was anything like those he had collected. maybe it was one he had stolen from him.
but when he went to pull the disc from its casing, only a portion of it came out. tommy shook the case, and the rest of the broken pieces scattered onto the floor; at least eight different portions of the disc from a man who almost killed his entire family and country.
“shit.”
...
tommy sighed at the laid out pieces of the broken disc. “why is this here for me, dream?”
the loud creak of the front door opening made tommy flinch, quickly wheeling around and brushing the broken pieces further behind his back. karl stood in the doorway, looking curiously over at tommy with a box in hand.
“karl!” tommy exclaimed breathlessly. “jesus, man, you scared me.”
“sorry, sorry,” the man shrugged with a huff. “i was dropping off some things for philza when i, uh..” he placed down the box and looked over at tommy again. “heard the name we don’t speak.”
right. tommy had forgotten about the country’s superstition; never say dream’s name, for he has ears everywhere.
“right, uh, sorry,” tommy coughed. karl just turned away, probably going to get another box from outside. “but..” the brunette turned to him again. “if there were to be anything said about dream..”
“we don’t talk about dream,” karl reiterated, holding up his hands to stop tommy from pressing the topic. he already seemed stressed at just the thought of the man.
“but-”
“tommy, i would drop it,” he shook his head, eyes shifting out the doorway.
tommy couldn’t help it--if anyone were to know anything, it would be karl. that guy seemed to have limitless information at his disposal. “but say that, in theory, d- he,” karl raised his eyebrows, but said nothing, “was out for you.. what would he do?”
before karl even had the chance to try to lecture him, sapnap burst through the door, another box in hand. “he was nightmare!”
“sap!” karl pleaded, tugging at his arm after he placed the box down.
“karl, he deserves to know,” sapnap brushed, beginning toward tommy. “he would make terrible promises, manipulate you until you didn’t know what was true, and then BOOM!” tommy flinched when sapnap lurched suddenly toward his face. “and there was nothing you could do.”
“sapnap, please!”
“what if you didn’t know whether or not he was coming after you?” tommy rushed out. “what would you do if you didn’t know where you stood with him?”
“well, you’d better figure it out,” sapnap warned, shaking his head. “because he was coming for you.” before tommy could ask anything else, karl wedged his way between them and pushed sapnap away.
“we don’t talk about dream!” he proclaimed, loud and adamant. “okay? not since..” karl sighed out. sapnap placed a hand on his husband’s shoulder as his head dropped. there was a moment of tense silence where guilt creeped at tommy’s heart before karl’s bright, passionate eyes turned to him again.
“i’ll talk about him just this once,” karl spoke seriously. “but then never again.” tommy nodded fervently, discreetly sweeping the broken vinyl pieces into one of the set out bowls as sapnap lead his husband to sit down. “it was our wedding day.. we were getting ready when it started raining.”
“it wasn’t ideal, but it was just a little rain,” sapnap cut in. karl sent him a light glare.
“right, we weren’t going to let that ruin our wedding,” karl continued. tommy nodded. he vaguely remembered their wedding; it had only been a few years ago.. but he didn’t remember anything about dream. “then dream happened. all we saw was a lightning strike-”
“the kind that can only happen from a trident summoning it,” sapnap clarified and karl hit his arm.
“are you telling this story, or am i?”
sapnap smiled at his husband, grabbing the hand that just hit him and pressed a kiss to his knuckles. tommy would’ve gagged had he not been so focused on the main point of the story. “im sorry, darlin’. go on.”
karl rolled his eyes with a smile, turning back to tommy. “well, whenever lightnings starts.. it doesn’t stop.” sapnap squeezed his husband’s hand. “one thing lead to another, the weather turned into a full-fledged storm by the time of the reception--practically a hurricane!”
“i do remember that,” tommy nodded. “the wedding moved into your house after that. phil had me and techno move all the tables inside.”
“it was still the most amazing day of our lives,” sapnap reaffirmed. “we didn’t let that idiot ruin it, but.. after that day we started living by the superstition.”
“we don’t talk about dream,” karl spoke as he stood from the table. “so whatever this new curiosity you have, tommy..” him and sapnap looked at him seriously. “i would drop it.”
...
he didn’t drop it.
“well, we all grew up fearing him,” tubbo shook his head. “but even now, he’s everywhere. always mumbling, planning.. i bet he practically lives in l’manburg.”
“you think?” tommy questioned. him, tubbo, and ranboo were sitting on the outskirts of the country, lounging in the shade of a large tree when tommy “casually” brought up the feared man again.
“there’s no way he just left us alone after all that’s happened,” tubbo continued. “it’s been nearly two years since the war ended, but it’s not over. not really. not as long as he’s out there.” tommy and ranboo shared an uneasy look. “i associate him with the sound of the shifting stone. every time we hear that loud shift, president soot always says it’s the wall settling, but i think it’s dream. he’s probably watching us from our very own wall.
“and he scares them all. leaves the president and the entire country fumbling at just the sound of his name. just the idea of him.” tubbo sat up straight. “one day, i’m going to be president. and i’m going to defeat dream once and for all.”
tommy thought for a moment. “why do you think they fear him so much?”
“he’s unpredictable,” tubbo shrugged. “he’s manipulative, he’s crazy.. he’s someone you can’t quite figure out. no one understands.” tubbo brushed some of his hair out of his wide eyes to look clearly at tommy. “do you understand?”
…
“he’s seven feet tall,” wilbur spoke ominously but strongly, voice taunting, “weapons strapped along his back..” he circled his younger brother like a vulture and tommy found himself wishing he had never come to visit. “remember that day, all those years ago, when he came to visit?” tommy didn’t get to answer before wil was back in front of him, speaking, “you say you only remember him saying your name before it all faded to black.
“he knows when you’re thinking about him,” wilbur continued, tone growing more ferocious as he walked forward. every step he took, tommy took one back. fear grew in his heart. “and i bet he practically feasts on the memory of your scream that day. treasures it like your disc.” tommy hit the wall with a small yelp in surprise.
“so stop. talking. about. him.” wilbur’s eyes were furious. “if i hear again that you’re asking around about dream, i’m bringing philza into it. and i’ll rethink the vice presidency thing we talked about.” then wilbur walked away, leaving tommy to gulp with fear. he called back one final, “we don’t talk about dream.”
…
“i don’t know much,” niki offered quietly, shifting her bread basket on her arm. “once he told me he’d kill my fox, and the next day it was dead.” she shook her head, continuing her walk that tommy had interrupted. “i wouldn’t go around asking about him, tommy. nothing good can come from it.”
tommy frowned.
…
“dream?” badboyhalo sounded, looking taken aback by the younger boy’s question. “i never really liked him.. we were okay, kind of, until a few rougher things happened..” bad shook his head, finally looking into tommy’s eyes. “last time i saw him, he said i would end up drunk and crazy with a beer gut if i continued to follow the egg. and i’ve already got body image issues, so..” bad shrugged with a wave. “wouldn’t trust him. that’s what i tell myself.”
tommy watched with wide, slightly-amused eyes as bad walked away.
…
“he told me that my sight would disappear,” eret spoke, deep voice sending a chill down tommy’s spine as he whipped off his sunglasses, “now look at my eyes!” tommy flinched with fear at the empty orbs stared at him. then eret laughed out, offering a charming smile. “just kidding. i was born like this.”
“jesus, man..,” tommy huffed. he was often understood and appreciated eret’s humor, but it could be annoying when tommy had a goal in mind. he wanted answers, not jokes.
“i wouldn’t go around asking about dream so freely, tommy,” eret shrugged, pushing his sunglasses back onto his nose. “you never know who you can trust these days because of him--anyone could be a spy. even me.” tommy tensed for a moment, furrowing his brow skeptically as eret walked past him. “im kidding, im kidding! ..kinda.” and the man walked away and laughed, leaving tommy more annoyed than before.
...
“why are you asking that?” george spoke slowly and unsurely.
“i..,” tommy began, trailing off. he didn’t know whether or not to be honest. “i don’t know. i think im at the age where i can finally understand and know a little about him. and i want to know.”
george just frowned, looking at the grass below them. he spoke slowly and quietly, “dream was.. he was strange with me. he was protective of me for the majority of our friendship, before i realized that his idea of “protection” was just plain manipulation.” he looked up and shrugged at tommy. “he would always tell me that everything i wanted was promised to me, and would someday be mine. i felt..” he shook his head with honest shame. tommy was listening intently at this rate; this was the most open he had ever seen george. “powerful. but i think my power only really grew when i was finally away from him.
“dream is complicated,” george continued, crossing his arms. “he does things only for his own benefit. whatever you’re asking around for, you’re only going to find the same answer; dream is a terrible man who did terrible things.” george picked up the bag he had laid on the ground. “that’s just the truth.” and he walked away without saying anything else.
tommy stood in the shade for a moment as he processed.
...
it was sunset when tommy finally reached your house. he took a deep breath before heading around back, where he knew you would be lounging by this time.
“tommy?”
you were reading a book on your lit up back porch, enjoying the cool evening breeze as the sun dipped below the horizon. your eyes were on him, brows raised curiously. he coughed out, “hey, y/n. how-”
“i know why you’re here,” you cut in. he silenced himself immediately, watching as you bookmarked your book before turning looking up at him again with a solemn smile. you waved a hand to the seat across from you. “let’s talk.”
tommy slowly sank into the comfortable chair, heart beginning to beat nervously. he began, “so..” but he didn’t know where to begin, and frankly was a little embarrassed that word of his curiosity had gotten back to you. he prayed it hadn’t found wilbur again. he shook his head--this was you. the most comfortable, kind person he knew. there was no reason to freeze up now. “.. where do i start?”
you offered him a short chuckle. “let me start.” tommy nodded, turning his body toward you. “george told me you were coming, by the way.” tommy pursed his lips. “and sapnap before that.”
“yeah,” tommy coughed, rubbing his neck sheepishly. “just.. covering all of the bases, i guess.”
you nodded, not looking at him. “i don’t know what has you so curious, but..” you shrugged. “if anyone around here is going to silence that mind of yours.. it might just be me.” tommy raised his eyebrows in the slightest, but your gaze remained on the small table between your seats. “dream was the most honest with me. he, uh, told me loved me after all.”
“do you not believe it?” tommy cut in. when you looked up, he quickly added, “sorry.”
“no, you’re fine,” you assured, shaking your head at him. “i did, at one point, but.. i don’t know what i believe about him anymore.” you paused, hugging one of your knees to your chest as you spoke, “dream used to tell me that we were meant for each other. that he was the man i was supposed to be with, that i was the one of his dreams. and if i were to ever leave him..” you shook your head to yourself, busying your hands with brushing your hair out of your face. “if he ever were to be out of reach, i would realize that i could never love again.”
“he was in love with you,” tommy summarized and you pursed your lips. “but you don’t know whether it was truly love or.. i don’t know, mania?”
“yeah,” you affirmed. “i left him before sapnap and george parted. he-he wanted to lock me down, keep me caged. and i couldn’t bear it.” you stood from your seat, finally meeting eyes with tommy’s wary gaze. “i know you’ve heard it a thousand times before, but please, tommy..” your pleading gaze sent a chill down his spine. “we don’t talk about dream.”
tommy gulped and nodded. the distant bell of the hours changing broke your focus. you looked into the distant sky with a sigh, “i’ve got to get changed. i have to be at the white house in an hour.”
“the white house?” tommy questioned, rising from his own seat. “why?”
“technoblade’s coming for dinner,” you explained, heading toward your back door, “and i think wilbur’s taking it as a chance to finally set us up.” you paused in your doorway as tommy raised his eyebrows. “i’ll see you there?”
“yeah,” he nodded, voice quieter than he would have liked. you just nodded in return and disappeared inside your house.
as tommy walked away, pondering dream’s obsession for you, he couldn’t help but shiver at the feeling of being watched.
...
tommy’s mind was swirling with a million thoughts when he returned to his house. quickly, he drew out the bowl he had swept the vinyl pieces into a few days prior. he poured them out onto the table, nearly ten pieces to a puzzle he didn’t know if he was ready to piece together. but he had bought some epoxy a day prior to try.
he began to piece together the vinyl, keeping an eye on the kitchen clock.
we don’t talk about dream.
he was a nightmare!
three pieces were cleanly fitted to each other.
wouldn’t trust him. that’s what i tell myself.
dream used to tell me we were meant for each other.
it felt as if the entire house was on edge.
... and the next day it was dead.
we don’t talk about dream.
his hands were shaking as he tried the last few pieces.
practically a hurricane!
weapons strapped along his back..
the second the record was laid out, altogether at last, tommy shakily poured the epoxy along the cracks. his heart was racing, and he raked a stressed hand through his hair as he checked the clock once more. he’d have to wait for the glue-like substance to settle before he could toss the record onto a player, but he didn’t have enough time to wait for it. then, the front door slammed open.
“hey, tommy! you better get your nice shirt on, ‘cause techno is com- ing...” tommy turned to philza in absolute fear, listening as phil’s words trailed off when he spotted the disc on the table. his eyes were locked directly on the small green ring that outlined the center, jaw dropping slowly as tommy’s veins filled with horror, weakly attempted to cover the pieced disc. but the damage had already been done.
“i-i..,” tommy sputtered before the dam holding him together finally broke, and he rushed out in nearly one breath, “you sent me to the basement for techno’s gift, and i found a disc with my name on it from dream, but i broke it!, and i tried to ask around for clues but wilbur yelled at me, and karl’s furious, and i think.. dream’s after me?” the last part wasn’t meant to be so much of a question, but tommy could barely think of the inflection of his words when philza’s usually fatherly blue eyes looked so mortified.
his father took a few slow steps forward, painfully loud in the silent house.
“phil?”
philza gently pushed tommy to the side to view the cracked disc in full. he practically watched as his father’s chest filled and released with air, the expression in his eyes changing every moment as his eyes swirled with a thousand thoughts. his feathers were both literally and metaphorically ruffled.
then, the town’s bell rang in the distance and philza seemed to resolve. he glanced back at the door before to the disc.
“here’s what we’re going to do,” phil began, clearing his throat. he rushed over to grasp a plate from the cabinet. “we shut our mouths. wilbur is using tonight as a chance to finally reconnect technoblade and y/n after so many years of being on opposing sides, and we are not ruining that.” philza gently swept the drying disc onto the plate. “so for tonight, we are not thinking about dream, dream is not thinking about you, this disc does not exist, and we are one, big, happy, dream-less nation.” philza grasped lightly at tommy’s shoulders. tommy felt intensely guilty for the worry in his father’s composed orbs. “no one has to know. not as long as we keep quiet. no one has to know.” tommy nodded fearfully.
a noise at the door made them both jump in the slightest. they slowly turned their heads toward the creaking noise to see the silhouette of ranboo’s looming figure, mismatched eyes wide as he stared into the house.

“you guys are terrible dads,” you sighed, watching as ranboo attempted to chase michael down. unfortunately for the tall hybrid, the small pigman was significantly faster than him. tommy let out a loud laugh at your words while tubbo pouted.
“you could at least try to be nice,” tubbo whined, holding the new clothes they were supposed to change their child into before you and tommy had arrived.
“i’ll try to be nicer if you try to be smarter,” you shot back. as tommy began to laugh again, you knelt down and held your arms open, catching michael just as he was about to run by you. the pigman squealed in your arms, but didn’t resist your grasp as you stood and cooed at him.
“aww,” tubbo smiled as michael nuzzled into your chest with a happy snort. he handed the clothes off to you. “i forgot how much he likes you, y/n.”
“michael, i expect you to apologize for your behavior,” ranboo huffed as he approached your pair. the pigman huffed, turning his head away from his dad. “don’t ignore me!”
“he’s mean isn’t he?” you spoke to michael as you moved to another room to change him. ranboo made a face at your back.
“y/n would be make a good parent,” tommy spoke aloud with an amused smile. “a better parent than you both, that is.”
