24. 6. 1948 The Soviet Union blocked both land and water access to West Berlin. The crisis quickly escalated into a test of will and logistics: in the following days, the Berlin Airlift was launched, one of the largest operations in aviation history. #OTD #aviation

In the Burma campaign at many points the best or only way for brittish and commonwealth troops to be resuplied was by aircraft. One aircraft that became the cornerstone of air resupply for the allied forces in burma was the c-47 called the Dakota in British service and Sky Train in American service. Crews would have to fly at very low altitude through dangerous terrain and weather over japanese forces without escort to deliver critically needed supplies. Without the bravery of these crews burma would likely have fallen to Japan.
(Although British imperialism is objectively bad when you compare Britain which was becoming pretty pro colonial independence with japan who was pretty pro murdering those they conquered to every war crime possible i am willing to root for the brittish)
(additionally the "British" forces in burma were actually a (mostly) unsegregated mix of indian, local, Australian and actually british soldiers)
