Nein Again, c2e3: The Midnight Chase.
Since this episode was the first Frumpkin transformation, I thought it might be fun to make mock spellbook pages for Find Familiar (also trying to do a battle scene with the nergalid was too daunting with my current schedule XD).
EVERYONE IS ✨️ WEIRD ✨️
In episode 3 of Critical Role Campaign 2 Molly goes down in the party's second fight. Sam jokes that Molly is dead forever and Taliesin says he'll work on his new character that night.
I feel like Liam's and Sam's history in C1 contributed heavily to the immediate camaraderie between Nott and Caleb in C2.
Liam (above table) was immensely proud to see Sam using the same techniques Vax had done in C1. It was particularly endearing because Sam had repeatedly leaned on the fact that he didn't know how to play D&D, let alone the bard class, which made for some hilarious hijinks in C1. We expected to see that again in C2, but instead, Sam is quite clever about his use of Cunning Action (disengage, hide) and staying out of melee without needing to ask about it. Sam learned from Liam! It's super sweet.
In addition, Nott soon became an Arcane Trickster, which adopts limited Int-based spellcasting--like a wizard. That added an in-game reason for Liam to show his excitement about Sam's playing by having Caleb show it for Nott.
It's very immersive right away, and I love it.
books and booze and 🥺
caleb: can we trade your expensive flask for money so that we can get books for me and booze for you
nott: but this flask is shiny. and i like it 🤩
caleb: but we could get you a lot of booze. a lot.
nott: that is tempting. but this is my only flask. 🥺
caleb: we can get you another one. and also books 🥺. books please 🥺. the books i've been talking about and hoping to get 🥺. expensive books worth 13 gold 🥺. books 🥺?
nott: counteroffer — (hands him 13 gold) 😚 i like this better
Widofjord c2e3, after the fight where caleb burned a guy and hid:
*frumpkin goes to Nott and squeezes his paws*
Nott: “this means i have to go”
Fjord *being the first to point out caleb isn’t there*: “Where’s Caleb?” *starts looking around for him*
Caleb *walks up silently and starts helping clean up with a zoned out expression*
Fjord: “Where’d you go?”
Caleb: “this is not my thing. I am not brave like Nott. Let’s get out of here, please”
Fjord: “You shot shit out of your hands. I don’t think you were not brave. That was really impressive”
Beau *confused and disgusted*: “Wait you shot shit out of your hands? That’s fuckin-“
Fjord: “It was fire. It’s a figure of fucking speech”
Beau: “oh”
Caleb *still zoned out but smiling a bit*: “I haven’t learned that one yet. Some day”
-
Fjord being the one to first point out Caleb isn’t there
Fjord not letting Caleb call himself not brave and immediately complementing Caleb saying his magic is impressive(again)
Caleb being zoned out cuz of the ptsd of having to use a fire cantrip against the zombie guard, and when Fjord compliments him on it he diverts the attention with a joke about poop magic to not have to talk about it
Autistic ass Beauregard Lionett interpreting only the literal sentence, thinking Caleb had literal shit magic
Fjord immediately being annoyed but explaining to her what he meant
+ (i know it’s not magic and not on this campaign but the idea of magic poop instead of fire just made me remember Mister throwing his fire shits)
