Grover Cleveland, who would become the 22nd and 24th President of the United States, was born in Caldwell on March 18, 1837. He is the only president to serve two non-consecutive terms (1885–1889 and 1893–1897). After leaving the White House on March 4, 1897, Cleveland lived in retirement at his estate, Westland Mansion, in Princeton until his death in 1908. He is buried in Princeton Cemetery in Princeton, NJ. The Birthplace was added to the @nationalregisternps in 1977.
