#54 Meleager, Hero of Calydon.
Diomedes meeting his grandfather for the first time and getting to hear all the awkward childhood moments of his father
Like yes, Tydeus thought he could uproot trees, his proof was a stinging nettle plant with roots he handed to his maid
No his hands itching and crying had nothing to do with that, someone surely cursed him but he didn't need any help
He was 3 and after crying for an hour and refusing help it turned out the herbs and cold water actually did ease the itching
That's what Oeneus tells Diomedes, in that short moment of connection they have
If im not getting my pictures mixed up the land and mountains in the distance is Aetolia and should be the region around Calydon!!! 🥹🥹🥹🥹
...oh and i guess the picture is taken from up on Ithaca
Tydeus I'd be so mad if i got exiled from Calydon
Argos is nice and all, BUt Calydon!
Periboea of Olenus being unhappy in Calydon.....mhhhh she COULD be happy, but i think its more realistic that she'd be unhappy
Shes the sister of Capaneus - blasphemus, hot headed Capaneus
She comes to a kingdom where nearly the entire royal family has died with the exception of the king and he is in need of an heir so he marries her
In some version she is either a prisoner of war/ war bride or exiled and send to the king to be killed because she's unweddedly pregnant
She has one or two kids who both die
Her new husband is old and weak and may be inclined to drink
She may be queen or kings consort but her husbands brothers are scheming against him so she has to be on guard
Whether or not if she survives her children and husband is another question
... yeah, yeah i don't think she'd be happy,
Tell me if im going insane
Okay so im trying to think of headcanons for Thoas of Calydon right now
Yk, one of the guys who volunteered to fight Hector in the Iliad and also Diomedes' paternal cousin
Yesterday i learned that his mother - Gorge - took Meleagers shield when he refused to fight (yk the whole Iliad deal Phoenix yaps about to Achilles in book 9 of the iliad) and this women just fights in his stead
So; moving from that it means that Gorge was old enough to fight during the war in Calydon
Meaning she wouldve likely been old enough to marry not too soon after - marrying Andreamon and then.....how old was Thoas? I had the perception that hes described as young in the Iliad
If hed been born a couple years after Meleager death - would he have met Tydeus?
If he was born later - why was he born late? Does he have older siblings? Was there another reason Gorge and Andreamon only had a son later?
In both scenarios, would he have fought with the Epigoni? Would he have witnessed the events of the Seven? If he did - did his father send aid to Diomedes' cause, or did they refuse to join? Did Thoas join against his fathers wishes?
Whats Thoas' relationship to the three gods of the region? (Ares, Artemis, Dioynsos keep showing up in the myths there)
Was Thoas the one to inform Diomedes about his grandfather - maybe traveling to Argos for it? Did he ask for aid to expell his uncles and cousins and save his grandfather?
What caused Thoas and Andreamon to become Oeneus' successors - and not Diomedes?
Did Thoas and Diomedes like each other or hate each other or didnt habor any feelings for each other? Did they ever interact?
When Diomedes got exiled from Argos, did he go to Thoas first?
SO many questions and NO answers 🫠🫠🫠 why are all the other works that would've covered Diomedes lost, i'll even take the roman ones as long as theyre a thing 😔 rip Epilium Diomedis, you couldve given me answers but we only have one page that talks about Diomedes' son, Foxes and Argos getting besieged smh
