I love the way they blocked the dub con deflowering scene where Niall is still pretending to be asleep but peeping through the covers at Ruben and Mona. Because we're seeing through Niall's eyes, we don't see her body at all, the camera only shows Ruben's body.
It's also interesting that Mona offers to play different characters because really it doesn't matter who she is in that moment, it's not about her and Niall.
It's about Ruben and Niall.
So when Mona makes the comment that Niall is a grower, seconds later he slips out of her - reflecting that her involvement is a disconnection from his true desire.
It's here that Ruben takes charge and says he'll hold it upright (and does), and grabs Niall's face to talk him through it. They sync their breathing, eyes locked. So now even when Mona makes another comment, she's not really there - her voice is echoing, distant and we don't cut to her.
We're locked in to the boys breathing together, camera focusing in on their expressions, on Ruben's hand on Niall's chest, their sighs and moans reverberating.
Once Niall's climax hits, the sounds come back into focus, no longer a distorted reflection of their connection. We snap back into reality and when Mona speaks again, upset about him coming in her, we cut to her - connection broken again. Reality sets in and the first thought Niall voices is his fear of contracting AIDS.
Although Mona and Ruben laugh and lean in to each other for a moment, Ruben once again puts his hand on Niall's chest and pushes him down roughly "lie back, you daft cunt." He establishes contact and connection again, an offering of comfort. Niall asks, "so, that's it then?"
It's just the two of them now, exchanging breath: Ruben's version of a kiss. "That's it, Bambi."
