Now that the season finale is available for everyone prepare your asses for some quality character development call-outs!
Part I: GWEN
This post is specially dedicated to all the losers who started hating on Gwen after the end of episode 11 under the statement that "she didn't care". Well guess what assholes...
Joke's on you! Cuz she's back and she cares more than ever!
Fist of all I gotta say that I loved this scene for many reasons. ONE as David said, she finally had a respectful job, that's all she wanted at some point, no David, no kids, none of that stupid camp, she should be happy ,right?
WRONG!
TWO Look at this scene:
"Did you say something?"
Last time I remember all Gwen wanted to do is read her magazines, write fanfic and not deal with anyone, but here we see her looking for someone to talk to. The calmness of this place kills her! She's probably used to David's endless blabbering at this point, her chatty coworker! There's no ruckus, no chaos, no one needs her... And it doesn't take too long before she realizes that...
"FUCK THIS JOB!" (I love this shot btw)
And then she risks it, her WELL PAID JOB, to help get this fucking camp back! THREE
I love this bonding moment between her and Nikki in the elevator. Anyway all I wanted to say is...
SHE'S BACK BITCHES!
Alright, but can we talk about this character development?
Okay, so...everyone fucking knows that Max’s entire character arc this season was about him opening up to his friendships and not pushing everyone anyway. And I just....I’m fucking crying, man that finale showed his arc so well.
All season long, Max is still that cynical little shit he always is, but it’s a lot different from previous seasons because it’s very obvious that he likes everyone at camp, especially Nikki and Neil. But he doesn’t show it. He just keeps on being an asshole to them.
And he gets called out this season. In episode three, when Neil and Nikki get pissed at him for blowing them off to join the foreign campers. In episode four, when Nikki calls him at for being selfish when he spent the entire day that she thought she was dying not caring at all about how she felt. And in episode nine, when Max uses Dolph and pretends to be his friend just for the candy. Dolph calls him OUT about how he’s a terrible friend.
It all really comes together with the season finale though because Max tells his best friends that they were never actually friends. They were only “temporary friends” for the summer. Nikki and Neil get rightfully pissed at him for pretending that their friendship didn’t mean anything in the moments where they were supposed to never see each other again.
Max’s development really comes through this episode because he’s been told how shittily he treats his friends throughout the season and in the finale, and it shows every time he’s on screen. He is so visibly upset without his friends and he feels guilty for treating them badly. He’s scared that when everything is over, he’s gonna have to say goodbye and he doesn’t want to get hurt at the end of the summer.
This is his face when he realized that his plan didn’t work. He couldn’t actually save the camp. And he’s devastated. He’s so sad that he won’t be with his friends anymore, and he apologizes to them immediately. He explains his feelings and he admits that he was a bad friend for pushing the people he cared about away. All he wanted was to get his friends back and make it up to them for being shitty, and he does it by working so hard to get the camp back.
He stopped pushing people away by admitting his feelings and accepting the fact that yeah, it’ll hurt when he says goodbye at the end of the summer, but his friends will still be his friends even after that. The memories they made at camp meant something to all of them and they won’t forget that.
So, Max really did come through with his season long arc and I am honestly SO HAPPY that it was rewarding. He’s just a little kid who wants his friends and I can’t wait to see how our new Max is gonna act next season. For now, he gets to have fun and play with his best friends.
i couldnt find the right words to tell y’all how much i loved s3e12 so i hope this does it
