Obviously we don’t know what Egg’s sisters Daella and Rhae look or act like and we probably won’t find out unless GRRM publishes a new Fire and Blood book or more Dunk and Egg novellas. I’ve read a compelling theory that Daella, the older one, was originally betrothed to Egg (before he wed Betha Blackwood for love) and after that, their father Maekar dispatched Daella to wed Lord Tarth with Dunk to escort her there, and that Dunk and Daella having a secret affair led to the conception of Brienne’s grandfather. (I’ve also seen commentary/theories that Brienne gets her “astonishing” blue eyes from her Targaryen ancestor, so maybe Daella had blue eyes, plus “common” light brown hair like her brother Daeron making “sun-streaked” haired Dunk’s baby easier to pass off as Lord Tarth’s, (kind of like how Jon Snow looks like his mother Lyanna). I wouldn’t be surprised if the rest of Maekar’s children had the Targaryen coloring like him whereas Daeron and Daella have the same hair color as their mother Dyanna. This would be kind of an inversion of the Stark kids where only Jon and Arya look like Ned whereas the other Stark kids have Catelyn’s hair/eye color. I also headcanon that Daella, probably raised from a young age to marry Egg, was probably more practical than Rhae as older siblings usually are whereas Rhae, who gave Egg a love potion, was more of a romantic dreamer. (Again, a reversal of the Stark sisters where this time the older sister is practical while the younger sister is a dreamer.) Dunk and Egg is full of irony when it comes to the titular characters with Egg thinking girls have cooties but marrying only Black Betha whereas Dunk wants to marry and have kids but joins the Kingsguard but fathers children on different women (first Nan, then Daella). I think a similar irony could happen to Daella and Rhae with Daella expecting a dutiful incestuous match with Egg but marrying outside the family and having a secret romance whereas the romantic Rhae ends up finding happiness in an arranged marriage to some Dayne cousin. (Obviously, the Daynes aren’t purple-eyed due to Valyrian genetics but I still think it would be fucking hilarious if Arianne’s thoughts about her and Darkstar’s children being as beautiful as dragon lords and Barristan thinking Dany could be Ashara’s daughter is because of some Targaryen blood in the recent Dayne family.) Also, if Dunk left his shooting star shield with Daella and now Brienne carries it, and Rhae’s descendants are the current Daynes, then it would interesting that both Brienne and Ned Dayne both having shooting stars as their symbols and have had run-ins with the Brotherhood Without Banners.

Serbia and Bulgaria’s relationship, plus the introduction to the Balkan wars. History of the Balkans is truly amazing; betrayal, drama and friendship keep going in circles.

I suppose this is the first part. The second will deal with the Balkan wars more specifically.

*As for Macedonia, she did actually manage to fight off Turkey once, but unfortunately freedom didn’t last for too long.. Nonetheless, back then she was the first  republic in the Balkans! It’s an interesting topic and I’d love to do a separate post to portray it.
