Hello Queensland - this is important!!!

Okay so obviously in the last few weeks, the state government has been making a big noise about “getting tough on crime”(specifically “bikie organised crime” and sex offenders). Now there is nothing wrong this on the face of it, but dig a little deeper Queensland, you will find something disturbing! *before i elaborate further, i must openly declare my allegiance to the left wing of political thought but my points are going to be as perceptive and a political as i can make them*  Firstly lets address the problem with how they are justifying these new laws. The government has been saying that “the people of Queensland are demanding a tougher approach” and that they have a mandate for these new laws. They DID NOT take these laws to the previous election therefore they cannot have a mandate for them! By all rights, they can say that they think the people of Queensland want a tougher stance but dont assume that just because you are the government, everyone will agree and submit to everything you do!

These are comparatively minor issues compared to the very very serious problems inherent in the proposed changes and the ways in which these changes are being presented. I’m not going to smother you in the complex legal elements and criminological theories behind why this is such a deplorable set of law changes but instead i will present the key points and if you wish to check my specifics, feel free to ask me for them.

Its as simple as this: If you think taking away bikies colours will prevent bikie related crime - you are wrong

If you think its okay to give police search powers so wide reaching that search warrants no longer need to specify what the search is for - you are wrong

If you think that putting “bikies’ all in one jail and forcing them to wear pink clothing will stop any of the organised crime surrounding bikie gangs - you are wrong *according to roughly 9 different criminological theories*

and this is the big one

IF YOU THINK IT IS OKAY FOR A GOVERNMENT TO MANDATE TO A JUDICIARY HOW IT WANTS CERTAIN CRIMES TO BE PUNISHED(ie what sentences will be applied) - YOU ARE WRONG!!!

The Newman Government seems to think all these things are okay!

These new laws are of grave concern in terms of civil liberties and the manner in which we manage our justice system as a modern and progressive society. 

The final point is a blatant and inexcusable violation of our separation of powers and MUST NOT BE TOLERATED! Talking to your local MP will have no impact on this situation simply because it benefits the government to implement this legislation, therefore, dont lay down and take this! BE ACTIVE AND STOP THIS BEFORE WE GO RIGHT BACK TO THE PRE FITZGERALD DAYS!!! I never want to see my state go back to the days where a gathering of more than 4 people was viewed as an illegal gathering!
