Joss Wayar, Gawin Caskey : My Golden Blood (S01E01)
Not the anon that asked, but thank you for the posts on Son Yuke and Euro - I find the background/context very interesting. You said that lakorn audiences tend to skew older/more conservative, so is it newsworthy or controversial that they're starring in a (fairly explicit) queer show? As in, has it caused a stir domestically? And have either of them been asked or said anything specifically about the queer angle? I could be completely mistaken, but I always got the impression that the het shows and the queer shows operated very much within their own silos, without much crossover, so I'm just curious about how both the actors and the wider Thai viewing public perceive their casting/roles, given where they've come from filmography-wise?
Hi nonnie 🤗
Oooooh this is a really interesting question, I love this ask!
Soooo this is just MY perspective gounging the comments of lakorn/thai show facebook pages, pantip and thai tiktok space so this might not be a very definitive answer to your question. But I think there's a big disconnection between what is newsworthy/controvery stirring for thai general public and mainstream thai lakorn audience.
So what I mean is that if we're talking about newsworthy / controversial / domestic stirring news, it's often dating news, marriage news, engagement news, cheating news, beefing news, who posted what on their socials news =))))))))) These are the kind of news gossip involving celebrities that thai general public follow closely. often times, even when a star is at an event to promote their films, 70% of the times the last segment of their interview will be dedicated to the press hounding on them for updates on their love life, sometimes if they're best friends with another rumour couple, they will be asked about the love life of other people not even their own =)))))))))))))
I'd say that for thai lakorn fans, their traditional lakorn actors starring in QL series used to surprise them a little bit. Like when Film Thanapat starred in To Sir With Love, or Nonkul in I Feel You Linger In The Air or when Tor Thanapob in Spare Me Your Mercy. But at this point in time, I don't think thai lakorn fans are THAT surprised by lakorn actors deciding to star in QL series. Shocked and surprised for sure but it's not outside the realm of possibilities anymore, if that makes sense.
I could say that for Euro, he's been known to be very close best friends with (formerly CH7) actor Kem Hussawee and so CH7 lakorn fans have been waiting for him to star in a BL series for a LONG time, which says a lot considering how conservative their lakorn audience typically are.
Another point I do want to disclaim though is that when I say thai mainstream lakorn audience are conservative, I don't mean that they have anything against QL series, it's more like they don't really tune in for QL series that much for miscellaneous reasons. If we don't count GMMTV QL series which airs on GMM25 (the TV channel barely anyone watches), there are very few QL series that actually air on primetime (8:30 PM - 9:30 PM) after the news. You can count those primetime airing QL series on your hand like Only You, Spare Me Your Mercy, Century Of Love, The Miracle Of Teddy Bear (off the top of my head). Most QL productions that get to air on mainstream lakorn channels (CH3, CH7, One31) are often QL series made by other production houses (Domundi, Be On Cloud, Looke, Dee Hup House, Idol Factory...) airing on rented out late evening TV slots from 9:30 PM onwards (I highly recommend looking at this amazing QL ratings project by @flowerbeasblog so you can get a good picture of how QL projects are received by thai TV audience). By that time, mainstream thai lakorn audience are already heading to bed after their 8:30 PM lakorn, which again goes to show that these dramas have very different target audience/demographic so it's indeed hard for them to crossover most of the time, unless the premise is very intriguing to them.
The most simple way to answer your question would be that the wider Thai audience are often surprised when they see a traditionally lakorn actor in a QL series but whether they actually tune in to watch them in those productions are another question. I think the most demonstrating example of this is the case of Jes Jespipat who had the most explicit NC scenes of his life in 4Minutes (and i dare say most because i've watched 2/3 of his lakorn filmography and trust me 4Minutes is the most explicit work he's done EVER), but during that period he had a popular lakorn airing which is The Lady And Her Lovers with Baifern Pimchanok. His role only appeared for like 3-4 episodes out of the 21 episodes but since his role has the sweetest moments with the FL, lakorn audience really shipped Jes and Baifern to the point of almost all press interviews Jes had around that era, he'd somehow be asked about Baifern even if his role ended weeks ago. Like the interview questions Jes got very often in that era was how he felt filming the NC scenes with Bible, was it challenging and whatnots and the other ones would be related to his relationship with Baifern (they're FRIENDS).
So yeah I don't know if this actually answers your question or not but I'd say that the news of Son/Euro being casted in QL series Shine is a HUGE DEAL, shocked and stirred the entire domestic community of Thai Sao Y rather than it being a big/controversial deal to thai general public/mainstream lakorn audience although it can't be denied that thai mainstream lakorn fans are definitely surprised by the pairing of former One31 pra ek Son Yuke and CH7 pra ek Euro Yotsawat. I'd say that the pairing of two leading male actors of competing lakorn channels is a bigger deal to mainstream lakorn audience than the fact that they're in a BL series 😅

Summary: A mosaic of Bakugou Katsuki's life and his relationship with Midoriya Izuku throughout the years, as told by his loved ones.
Chapter Seven: Kid
First Prev
Izuku arrives home after a long day of hero work, intending to hop in the shower and relax in front of the television. He is waylaid by Katsuki, who is in the midst of screaming his head off into his phone in the middle of their living room. When Katsuki spies him coming through the door, he lowers his voice somewhat, but his intensity persists.
“Oh, you do,” he asks the person on the other end of the line. “Because what I don’t understand is how the fuck you fuckers can be so fucking incompetent that you make such a huge fuck-up like this!”
Toeing off his shoes, Izuku pities whosoever has earned Katsuki’s ire. Just yesterday, he had to run interference between Katsuki and their new interns from Yuuei, who had invoked his fury by failing to address each other by their hero names while on patrol. The kids had been practically inconsolable by the time Katsuki was through with them, revived only by a nod of approval from the man when they finished their shifts without any more mistakes.
“Yeah, you better have your lawyer on it! And while they’re at it, tell ’em that they’re gonna be hearing from me!” With an angry flourish, he hangs up and throws his phone at the couch before hunching over and loosing a guttural scream.
Hesitantly, Izuku approaches him. “Kacchan, what’s wrong?” When he receives no response, he adds, “Whatever it is, I’m sure it’s fine. And if it’s not, we can face it together.” For whatever reason, this elicits a turbulent laugh from Katsuki. His concern grows as his boyfriend continues to laugh far longer than is his wont. “Come on, tell me what’s wrong.” Cautiously, he sets a hand on Katsuki’s shoulder. “Do we need a lawyer?”
This question seems to snap Katsuki out of his hysterical stupor. Straightening, he wipes his hands down his face. “Yeah. Do we know any?”
Izuku wrings his hands as he thinks. “There’s Toshinori’s estate lawyer.” Last year, they had to help Toshinori set up a trust as part of his estate, and they met with his lawyer no less than half a dozen times. “I think her name was Murai? I can ask him for her number.”
Turning toward their home office, Katsuki murmurs, “I think I have it around here somewhere.”
Apprehensive, Izuku follows him. “Kacchan, why do we need a lawyer?”
Marching up to their desk, Katsuki begins rummaging around in it. He extracts a slip of paper from one of the drawers, stalks out of the room, grabs his phone, and dials out. After a moment, he says, “Yeah, is this Murai Tanaka’s office?” He waits for a response before continuing, “This is Bakugou Katsuki. I need an appointment with her. Now. When is she available?” He goes quiet again. He glances over at Izuku, who feels inexplicably as though Katsuki is staring into his soul. “That works. Thanks.” He hangs up, sliding his phone into his pocket and moving his hands to cover his face again.
Anxiously, Izuku asks, “What’s going on?” He wonders if there is something he has done that has now come home to roost. He panics, trying to think of what it could be. He got thrown into a bus by a villain last week. Has their liability insurance determined that their agency was at fault? He took a magazine with Katsuki’s face on it from a convenience store yesterday. He offered to pay for it, but the clerk insisted he have it free of cost. Had the store owner learned about it and decided to report him for theft?
Katsuki heads off his train of thought, run off the tracks. “Chill out. You’re not in trouble.” His frown worsens, and he looks away. “I am. Or, well, that’s up to you.”
Turning skeptical, Izuku questions, “Why? What did you do?”
