      “When she- when we, both came here — not here-here, like... To the other side- she got taken in by the same program I did. Housed in a different building than me, we wanted our own places because I was moved out at that point and it felt... Easier, ya’know? Like, let’s not address the elephant in the room! Let’s pretend that everything is fine like it was and that totally didn’t happen!

      She’s still in the rehabilitation program too. Check on her sometimes, she’s doing great. Really great, you should hear what the staff say about her, how close she is to moving on, how grateful that she is so close to closure. We’ve been here a while, so getting on like that is getting more important to them, less risky that way, and we’re both at about the time where we should be moving on. She talks about Dad more than me, I think. I don’t like to bring it up around her. She gets that.

      It’s funny, right? We come here and you should have seen the way the staff looked at us, that stupid paleness they got in their faces. Later they’d joke about it with us! Saying that, with a name like that, they were afraid we were bad omens! They’re all the more grateful that Mom’s this close to it too, that they don’t have to worry about... What happens, when a ghost refuses to die. They get really pushy on me too, asking when I’m supposed to move on, like the party’s over and the sun is rising and it’s super embarrassing to be seen hanging around, waiting like you’re expecting the music to start up again. 

      And like, don’t get me wrong, I’m happy she’s found that meaning in all of this, that she’s almost done with trying to hang on and trying to stay alive despite everything! Her unfinished business is done, there’s nothing else for her to do! I can go ahead and be SOOOO happy for her!

      But... What the fuck am I supposed to do, having to lose her all over again? Don’t even have Dad to talk to, can’t go to either of them, stuck all alone... It sucks, to watch your parents die a second time, and act like you’re supposed to be happy about it.”
