Thinking about a poly Thorfinn/Canute/Reader and they both happen to be yanderes. They meet you while Thorfinn and you were guarding the young prince. Thorfinn has known you for several years and has grown close to you over that time, so naturally he is possessive and overprotective of you. You are in a band of ruthless mercenaries, not to mention Askeladd; why wouldn't he act the least bit protective over you?

Then you add Canute to the mix, and suddenly Thorfinn is threatening to knife anyone who comes close enough to either of you two. For what it's worth, his feelings stem from his fear of losing the only healthy person who has been consistent in his life. His father was killed, Askeladd is toxic, and the rest of the band just has bloodlust. Okay, maybe Bjorn is a small exception because he does act like a mother towards Thorfinn sometimes but still ultimately sides with Askeladd. Still, you are the only one who is allowed to patch up his wounds and sleep next to him at night.

So then we have Canute, who is barely able to talk with you because Thorfinn is staring daggers (both figuratively and literally) at him. So as their travels progress and Canite gets bolder, he slowly grows closer to you, and Thorfinn hates that. He would kill the pretty little blonde if it weren't for Askeladd promising him a duel if he kept the prince safe.

One night, it all comes to a climax when you are sleeping next to Thorfinn. They both end up in an argument over their behavior, and Thorfinn accidentally outs himself.

"Why do you have to be such a stupid, pretty little blonde?"

"You think I'm pretty Thorfinn?"

"That's not what I meant, Princess."

Thorfinn gets all pouty and embarrassed.

Canute feels like he has the upper hand just this once, so he proposes sharing you between the two young men. Thorfinn is almost entirely opposed to this idea, but for some odd reason, he nods and agrees with Canute. Only if Thorfinn is allowed to stay near you at all times.

Thorfinn and Canute are two completely different yanderes whose tendencies stem from the same thing: fear. Thorfinn has a fear of losing you and wants your love and attention (even if he won't admit it). Canute has a fear of not being loved, as he isn't loved by his father, and he wants to be loved by the person who has shown him some love. Thorfinn is aggressive and very outward about how protective he is of you, while Canute opts for a more quiet and cunning approach. Oh, they were bothering you? Either Thorfinn is straight up murdering them, or Canute will order someone to take care of them for him. Thorfinn needs your attention and praise constantly (in his distant and grumpy way), while Canute is content just being looked at by you. Thorfinn is possessive, while Canute is obsessive. Canute will practically worship the land you walk on, while Thorfinn will see you as his only equal.

They are opposites, yet they mesh well together.

They don't realize that they also have feelings for each other until after the King and Askeladd's deaths. Thorfinn was so very torn as he saw you standing near Canute with a shocked and pained expression on your face. He felt his heart and trust break into so many pieces as he saw Canute open and vulnerable for a killing strike. Yet he only slashed the edge of Canute's cheek as he realized that he couldn't kill the pretty little blonde. He couldn't hurt or be mad at you either. He just felt confused.

Canute knows that he has to act like a leader, so he orders everyone out except for you and Thorfinn.

Canute confesses that he has developed romantic feelings for both you and Thorfinn during your travels together. He thought you both looked so attractive while protecting him from people trying to kill him. He states that he is unable to live a life if Thorfinn hates him, and he offers Thorfinn the sword that killed Askeladd to slit his throat if he would like. Thorfinn takes the sword and shakes as tears escape his eyes. He can't. He can't kill the stupid blonde. He loves him. He loves you. He loves how you constantly care for him and stay near him even when he pushes you away. He loves Canute because he just loves him. He doesn't know when he started, and he is scared that he won't be able to stop.

He allows the sword to clatter onto the ground as he pulls both of you into a tight and warm hug.

Cue Canutes religious guilt and his breakdown of what his beliefs are all while romantically loving two people, one of whom is a man.

You stare at them with a perplexed expression as they both clumsily confess their love for you as well (leaving out that they will and have already murdered for you).

The only question that remains is: What will happen next? Will all three of you live with Canute? Will Thorfinn start a journey of self-discovery and end up traveling to Vinland? Will you ever figure out that their love isn't so innocent and that you won't ever escape from them?

I got cat called today. Like, literally, cat called. Instead of saying my name, this dude went 'pspspspspsps' like you do to a cat. So I turned around and asked him if he thought I was a cat because he's calling me like a cat.

So anyway, Canute would totally do that to Thorfinn. Thorfinn would be training or working, and Canute would just sneakily come up behind him and go 'pspspspspspspsps'.

Thorfinn sometimes hisses when Canute does this.

End of story.

The stench of the vaping fumes has seeped into the pores of the school bathrooms. Half of the fluorescent lights have burned out, and the underpaid janitors have yet to replace them. The bathroom walls and doors are inked with graffiti and nasty messages. It was as if the school itself was a big sign saying 'fuck the system'.

A black duffel bag is carelessly dropped onto the grimey tile floors that grow mildew and fungus. A freshly strung guitar within its pristine case is placed upon one of the sinks. A cigarette is lit and brought to a pair of pink and chapped lips. A smudge of red lipstick and a hickey adorning its owner's neck.

"Are we going to do this or not, Princess? My prices ain't cheap, you know." Thorfinn states gruffly as he rolls his hazel eyes towards the trembling blonde. The coward couldn't even look him in the eyes.

"I have the money right here, Thorfinn!" Canute states this in a nervous manner as he brings out a large stack of bills and hands them to Thorfinn.

His eyes light up as he smirks and looks up. He absent-mindedly counts the money. "Two hundred and fifty bucks for a simple tattoo? Man, I knew your pops was rich, but I didn't think he'd let you blow your fortune on this shit." Thorfinn scoffs as he takes another puff of his cigarette and then stomps it out.

Canute's ocean blue eyes look at Thorfinn widely, as he is unable to understand the boys actions. "Actually, my father doesn't know about this; no one does. This just stays between you and me, right, Thorfinn?"

"So, the pretty little princess finally grew a pair, eh?" Thorfinn replies snarkily as he throws the blonde a glare and rolls his eyes. He plugs in his equipment as he gestures for Canute to sit on one of the slowly leaking sinks. "Guess I can keep your secret. No ratting me out. Or, your father may just find out how much you love wearing lipstick and dresses." Thorfinn wolfishly grins at Canute as he points towards a ghastly bite mark on his neck that alternates between shades of violet and crimson red.

Canute gently takes a seat at the sink as the words register within his mind. He covers his face in his hands as he refuses to meet Thorfinn's eyes. "I didn't mean to bite down that hard on you. I just got... excited." Canute murmurs softly as he wishes that he could become one of the spores growing out of the tile floors.

Thorfinn throws his head back and barks out a laugh as he shakes his head. He punches Canute's shoulder weakly as he takes his hands away from his face. "I'd prefer you bite harder. I want everyone to know how much of a bad boy you secretly are." He teases Canute lightly as his grin only widens. 

Canute looks at Thorfinn as the red hue on his features becomes darker, and he fails at articulating another word. "Lighten up. Tell me where you want the tattoo." Thorfinn trails off as he gently places one of his weathered hands onto Canute's thigh. He gently squeezes it as he leans into his ear and speaks in a husky voice, "princess."

Canute may as well have died on the spot. His pupils dilate so large that they look like stuffed animal eyes. His heart is pounding so quickly that it may as well have broken the speed limit. His mind shuts down as he reacts in the only way he knows how. He presses a curt kiss on the blonde's lip as their mouths intertwine for only a single moment. Canutes breathing is rapid as he pulls away, and an embarrassing string of spit interconnects them.

It is now Thorfinn's turn to be stunned as he blinks owlishly. After a moment, he regains his normal passive and sarcastic demeanor as he gently unbuckles the longer blondes belt and slides his blue jeans off. "You may as well have just paid me like that. I know exactly where your tattoo is going now, pretty boy."

Canute refuses to respond as he quickly shuts his mouth so his jaw doesn't hang open. He quickly closes his legs as he realizes how vulnerable he looks stripped of his pants. Canute almost missed the slight blush on Thorfinn's features. The way his legs closed as well as the way he kneeled towards Canute He taps the side of Canute's thigh as he shakes his head.

"Relax. Nothing I haven't seen before." Thorfinn throws Canute his signature smug smirk, and for some reason, it only allowed Canute to relax. His muscles untense and his legs open enough for Thorfinn to take in all of his bare skin.

The hours of school pass by as Thorfinn ends up locking them both in a stall so he can work in peace and quiet. He also wanted to give Canute privacy. He doesn't need to ruin his boyfriend's reputation. He occasionally swears under his breath when some dickhead shits too loudly or those stupid motherfuckers start smoking while he's trying to work.

He works diligently, as his fingers never leave Canute's thigh. He grips the flesh as if it were a life line. A nice, hand-shaped bruise will be left there. Just enough to leave a faint mark, but not enough to hurt Canute. Thorfinn would never forgive himself if he did that.

The thin lines of ink slowly take shape into intricate details. Thorfinn's style of art is provocative and vibrant, as he blends his many ideas into his boyfriend's thigh. The tattoo isn't much larger than his palm and is hidden inside the boy's inner leg. All of the thick and thin multi-colored lines weave together like a spider web to create a design of a dagger with the gay pride colors.

Canute marvels at the tattoo as his eyes tear up. He is unable to formulate any words that would describe how honored he feels. How safe he feels. He wants to... His train of thought is cut off as a gruff and demanding voice is heard from the other side."Are you skipping class again, Thorfinn?" The harsh snapping of the school resource officers voices can be heard. Snake wasn't surprised that Thorfinn decided to hide in the bathroom all day. He is able to tell that it is Thorfinn. His oh-so-precious guitar is sitting in its case on one of the school's broken sinks.

Both of their eyes meet as they think one thing in unison: fuck.

What are the ship dynamics of Thorunte?

We are starting off with my newest and favorite one, which is t4t Thorfinn and Canute. Both of them being transmascs in the Viking Age just makes so much sense and is wonderful. I also love writing about queer characters, as there is not enough representation in the media. Canute is not cisgender. Let's just be honest with ourselves. I go more in depth about it in this post, if you would like to go read that.

We have Witch Thorfinn and Christian Canute. Canute being Christian is canon, and War Arc Thorfinn is enough of a little gremlin to be a witch. (Bjorn taught him all about witchcraft, by the way. He enchants his berserker mushrooms.) Canute is absolutely appalled at how Thorfinn ends up being a witch and is supposed to be protecting him. He always carries a cross necklace around his neck and holy water under his royal cape. He hides behind Ragnar anytime Thorfinn is near because he fears what may happen.

To be fair, Thorfinn has threatened to curse Canute a number of times, so it is a given at this point. Although he never would because Askeladd would never allow him a witch's duel to honor his father's passing into the beyond.

We have flirty Canute and flustered Thorfinn. This would be more along the lines of when they are in Season 2 because Season 1 Canute would not have the gall to flirt with S1 Thorfinn. (Thorfinn would probably punch him.) However, Season 2 Canute, with his new status as the king of two kingdoms, would definitely have the willingness to flirt with Thorfinn. Thorfinn is kind of clueless the entire time and is confused by the fluttering of his stomach and the pounding of his heart.

Early War Arc naive Canute and guardian Thorfinn will always be one of the most amusing to me. Canute just has to deal with this dude who hates him while simultaneously being attracted to him. Canute doesn't have the confidence to speak with him and is unable to protect himself. So Thorfinn always has to make sure he doesn't fall over himself and act like a fool. 'Anything for a duel with Askeladd' is just an excuse Thorfinn uses. It's more of 'anything to pretend that I'm not attracted to that stupid princess.'

Askeladd notices how Thorfinn is always around the prince, despite claiming his hatred for the young noble. 'Ah, young love, just like Bjorn and I.' Askeladd thinks.

Slave Arc, King Canute, and slave Thorfinn are when you see the tables flipped. Suddenly, Thorfinn is lost amidst the seas of his trauma. (In this au, we are just going to say that Canute is keeping Thorfinn as a slave. One of his servants.) Canute is torn, as he is unable to stand how defeated and sad Thorfinn looks. What happened to his fiery and angry kitty boy?

Eventually, Canute slips from his duties and tries to make amends with Thorfinn. It helps Thorfinn a little, as he is plagued with Asleladd's spirit and constantly tormented. He rolls around in his sleep and has blood-curdling nightmares. It's only when Canute sneaks into his chambers and speaks sweet nothings that Thorfinn is finally able to be lulled into a peaceful sleep.

It becomes normal for Canute to end up in Thorfinn's chambers just so he can sleep. Thorfinn is healed, and his warm spirit comes back to him. Canute declines any possible suitors, as he sees Thorfinn getting better. One day, that man will rule along with him and be his king.

In a modern high school, we have nerd Canute and Emo Thorfinn. (This one is separate from my other modern au. They aren't related, and Canute is whatever gender they want to be.) Canute is top of his class, class president, and neurodivergent. He does drag in his free time, and his father hates him in general. Oh yes, modern au Canute has worse daddy issues than canon Canute.

Thorfinn is someone who is more alternative than emo, but Askeladd just calls him 'emo bitch.' He is a guitarist and the main singer of his band, Vinland Rockers. He is working towards becoming a tattoo artist and illegally tattoos kids at the school as a side gig. He makes a ton of cash from it, and Askeladd (his adopted father) doesn't care as long as he doesn't get arrested.

Thorfinn ends up getting Canute into detention, and they have an entire enemies-to-lovers arc. Canute comes out of the closet and happily does their drag as Thorfinn gets tutored by Canute.

Thorfinn gives Canute their first tattoo.

The light of the night sky never seems to brighten the burdens within Thorfinn's heavy heart. The cool chill of winter nips at his sides and freezes over his soaked clothes. Each constellation holds a memory in his heart. Many nights while traveling to avenge his father, he learned the stars above to track his travels. Tonight the constellation of his father hangs overhead, Dain, the constellation he learned on his first night without his beloved father so long ago.

He imagines that his father is looking down on him from Valhalla. He imagines that one day he may be able to reach the stars just like his father and join him. To be immortal. Oh, such bittersweet memories denied to him by the monster who has made him.

A familiar set of boots is heard by Thorfinn, although he stays put in his sitting position. The man that he has begrudgingly sworn to protect makes the decision to sit next to him on the grassy knoll. Thorfinn shoots a glare half-heartedly at Canute, who isn't directly staring at him. His ocean blue eyes are trained on the stars that Thorfinn so admires.

An unbearably soft and comforting hand envelopes Thorfinn's own without him realizing it. He is about to shout and curse at Canute, only to find that he is unable to do so. A sickeningly sweet emotion rises within his chest. It is light and airy, like Freyr's winds, and as precious as Thor's hammer. Thorfinn objects to this weakness in his body, but it has only been growing since he first set his hazel eyes on the young prince.

"You are injured and freezing." Canute states in a tone that Thorfinn is unable to identify. It is loving, tender, and sweet, and it reminds him of how his mother used to speak to him. Only, it was somehow so much different.

"Why do you care, princess?" Thorfinn sneers weakly as he is suddenly more aware of everything going on around him. The gentle snores of the animals in the woods, the small distance between the two men's bodies, how quickly Thorfinn's heart is beating while awaiting Canute's response.

"Is there a reason I should not?" He inquires rhetorically as he removes his royal cape and wraps it around Thorfinn's battered figure. Canute leans into Thorfinn to provide him with more warmth, and the injured blonde chooses not to move. Something in him seeks out the prince's warmth and covets it. An almost invisible blush creeps across Thorfinn's features as he stares at the stars instead of the man that is near him.

They both stay in the clearing on the grassy knoll for quite some time. Both of their sets of eyes stay trained on the stars. Both men know that some things are best left unsaid in this world. Although enough is said about how at peace Canute is while leaning against Thorfinn, about how conflicted Thorfinn feels while near Canute.

Touch Me Once, My Sweet Death

(Goddess of Life Canute x God of Death Thorfinn)

Among the edges of Vahalla lie two domains that lie just out of reach of all nine realms. The realm of that which makes life and the realm of that which allows death. Both realms are infinitely close to intertwining with each other, yet they are fated to never do so. Life may never touch death, lest life rot, and death may never touch life, lest death become obsolete.

The celestial growth of all life is a haven that sprouts up new flora everywhere that life walks. An eternal, shining light cascading down onto the peaceful realm that warms all life It's vibrant and lively, in a way that cannot be described to mortals. It is unreachable to anyone, but life—not even death—may touch the surface of these sacred lands.

Crystalline lakes run through the valleys that grant anyone who bathes in them eternal youth. Life is eternal here, yet it slips away so quickly from mortals. The fauna here is plentiful, and they spend their days grazing on the thriving flora. There is no darkness here, no night, and there is no need to rest or sleep as life is always alive.

On the opposite of the nine realms lies what has been corrupted and corroded. Eternal darkness and damnation flow through rivers of eternal crimson blood. There is neither ground nor any flora or fauna. All that lies in the realm beyond life and all is an all-encompassing darkness. A long trail of blood and tortured souls sorrowfully weeped the cries of the afflicted. The stench of rot and the vile of mankind permeate throughout the void.

There is neither breath nor air, yet somehow the sounds of the damned and the screeches of the night terrors echo across. This is the place of the god's fear—where they will end when Ragnarök comes. No one in Vahalla speaks of the void or how its power grows every passing day. No one has truly ever seen death except life; for a fleeting moment, a connection was formed. For when life and death intertwine, everything will end, and Ragnarök shall have begun.

There's a gap between the realms of life and death in Muspelheim. A land of fire and destruction that will help fill the void during the last days of the gods The God of Death, Thorfinn, spends most of his time there. He walks right to the edge, right where Muspelheim ends and the scared lands of life begin. He never reaches out—well, he almost did once—and he regrets it dearly.

He yearns for Ragnarök; he yearns for life; he knows that there is no higher power than him, yet he still wishes that he wasn't Death. He remembers the time of the old gods. When he and life were intertwined. He promised Canute that he would never leave, and yet now they are separated by an eternal blazing fire. Their union will kill all and cause all to fall, and all Thorfinn is able to do is wait and yearn.

The Goddess of Life, his goddess, his love, shows at the end of his sacred lands. He adorns a simple silken white dress, although his aura appears more holy than any other divine being. His cascading blonde locks sparkle like the crystalline waters of youth that he bathes in. His eyes were created out of the same hue as the sky; they are endless and freeing. They never fail to take Thorfinn's breath away. He needs neither a crown nor intricate runic symbols. He is God. He is free. He is true and ultimately divine beauty.

Death, in that moment, wishes to hide away. His body is scarred with runic symbols of terror and destruction. His blonde locks are matted with the souls of the innocent and as dry as the heat of the crackling inferno in which he stands. Surtr makes no move against death; even he is in awe and reverence for the being that occupies his lands so often. Still, all Thorfinn is able to focus on is the black garb that hangs limply off of him. No better than the clothes a mortal slave would wear. A tattered tunic filled with holes and scorch marks, matching trousers that cover his feet. He wears only black combat boots, a gift from a damned soul.

He is unable to compare himself to how pristine and angelic Canute appears. Even his bare feet look as if they were sculpted by a force greater than either of them. He wears no clothing below his ankles, as life is always connected to the earth around him. His goddess, his life, his yearning—and he is only... no better appearing than one of the Jötunn.

Canute knows that he is not allowed to take another step forward, so he falls on his knees. Life's sky blue eyes grow duller for a moment as all of the flora around him slowly wilts. "Touch me once, my sweet Death. I beg of you. I have been deprived of your love for so long."

"Torture me not, my love." Thorfinn croaks out with a tortured vocal inflection as he falls to his knees. His body is consumed by the hellish inferno, and yet he still feels nothing—he is eternal. He is part of Ragnarök; he will cause the end of Canute. He may never touch him, lest he kill him. "I need you. When shall I love you again?"

"You have never stopped loving me. Touch me, please, my sweet Death." Canute begs with his harmonious cords as his hand so foolishly reaches out towards Thorfinn.

So tempting.

One inch away and his love shall embrace him.

"Thorfinn, please, I may die without you."

"You will die with me." Thorfinn shrieks the pain of his for once instead of being afflicted, even if it doesn't feel so. He doesn't want to be dead. He doesn't want to be immortal. He wants to be human. He wants to be human. He wants...

"Keep me close, my sweet Death." Canute speaks in the desperation of a mortal, begging for their life from their superior. Canute closes the gap and he embraces him after many millennia.

Death weeps, for life now rots in his arms. Canute keeps himself imprinted on Thorfinn. Life allows itself to play into Death's hands. He screams, he shouts, he shakes Canute, and he curses. Canute rots. His vibrancy is quickly fading, as life does in all nine realms.

"Stay strong, my sweet Death."

It's three in the morning and my battery is almost dead, but here I am, jotting down a note about the Vinland Saga.

I need you non-authors to understand the pain of having the entirety of the Vinland Saga arcs rewritten inside of your mind (but centered around Thorunte) and not having the time to write them.
