Your art and fics are so stunning!!! Everything about your art is so beautiful, and your writing is completely unbelievable—I feel instantly transported to a different world whenever I sit down to read something by you. I think I’m in love. If i can ask, how long have you been drawing/writing and what got you interested in creating such beautiful things?? Thanks, Have a wonderful day !!
Oh wow thank you!!! <3 Your words are so lovely! And I’m very glad that you feel my work can do that for you :D
Okay now here’s the part where I feel old haha. I started writing (for not school purposes) when I was 14. (I’m 30 now, so that’s 16 years). The significance of that year would be when Fellowship of the Ring came out and it was time to write all the bad fanfics imaginable. The kicker was this was before smart phones and before laptops were allowed in class at my school so I handwrote everything, pretending I was taking notes and really just writing fanfic, and then transcribed them to word later when I got home.
Look at this dedication.
Due to multiple catastrophic events including a computer crash and my fanfiction.net getting wiped, though, I lost all my files from that time period which I’m still salty about and I can’t really show anything for it. At the same time though I was writing snippets of original stuff, and more importantly at 15 I got my first RP partner, one of four I’ve had throughout my years.
I really recommend having an RP partner, I know it sounds silly but having a writing partner who helps you improv and learn to write off the cuff, and motivates you to write something on a more regular basis is incredibly helpful.
Anyway so multiple fandoms, multiple accounts, multiple RP partners and many many word docs later I’m somehow here. I have two original novellas that have been completed (in 2012 I shopped one around to a publisher and they actually got back to me but sadly I did the worst thing ever after that by dropping the ball and never replying back and I just ...I still think about that lol) and many more half started things. The other day I was thinking about how I might try to write some more original stuff because the things that I want to read don’t seem to exist. (That’s the point of writing, right anyway? I must make the thing I am thinking of that I can’t read anywhere else!) But for now I’ll at least just concentrate on finishing up my latest fic
Art wise, I can’t remember when I first started because, well, kids start messing around with art before they can even really think about it. But I can remember specific things like inviting a friend over to have a Megara (from Hercules) drawing session and playing I Won’t Say I’m In Love on repeat on a casette tape the entire time. And having my how to draw dogs book taken away in class because the teacher didn’t understand that people who draw can also still listen, that was so upsetting. I’ve got a little art timeline overview here if you want to see some of my oldest work, I made it a few years ago but it still gets the job done.
To be honest, as old as I am I’m a bit ashamed that I’m not better than I am at this point. Because there are so many artists here on tumblr that are so fantastic and wonderful and often ten years my junior, or even more, who are sometimes at a skill level I can’t even fathom. And I get sad because who am I and what am I even doing then, if I have two degrees in fine arts but make stuff that isn’t up to par with some of these amazing people. But everyone’s path is different, and in my case things like depression and hand pain can really affect and change you, and you have to learn how to persevere despite what anyone else is doing around you. It’s been hard but I think in the end this artistic journey will have been a good one, hopefully.
ANYWAY I think the point of all of this was just to say I’ve been doing the things I love for a long time, and I probably will continue to for a very long time. I’m glad that the more you do something, no matter what it is, the better creative person you will become. I love drawing, I love writing, and I plan to keep doing it forever.
Thank you so much for your message and I wish you all the best in your own creative pursuits :)
