Working Title: Steve Rogers, Freedom Crusader is tired

World of Warcraft AU. Bucky is a runt of a Mag’har orc of the Horde, too small and too gangly and missing an arm, but he tried his best to help his faction with whatever he can, even if that means just being a hunter and a babysitter to his orphaned cousins. Steve Rogers is a Freedom Crusader, a paladin at the service of the High King of Azeroth, and one of the king’s most trusted fighters.

Thanks to the High King Anduin’s antics, they meet, and become friends eventually, and then something else maybe, but there’s a war in the horizon, and they’ll have to prove their worth to their factions, to themselves and to each other.

Bucky shakes his head but does as Steve asks. He covers his mouth with his hand when he sees what’s inside and looks up at Steve, shaking his head. He closes his eyes and puts the compass on the blanket beside him before holding his face in his hands and leaning over to cry. Steve wraps his arms around Bucky and waits.

“Just wait a minute or two. And look up at the sky. You’ll see.” Bucky tips his head up and starts looking up at the clouds and waits, a little smile curling up the side of his mouth. He looks so handsome, limned in the filtered moonlight, and Steve wants to kiss him so badly. His fingers itch to run through Bucky’s soft, lush hair. Bucky sighs happily and Steve echoes it unconsciously.

But then, he meets Bucky Barnes: the out-of-this-world-gorgeous mechanic and war vet, who turns Steve’s life upside down and makes him question everything he thought he knew. Slowly, Steve comes to realize there is more to life than duty and punching Nazis. Just one problem though: how on earth does a 96-year-old virgin who only just realized he may not be entirely straight make the transition from crush to relationship? For as long as anyone could remember, Bucky had been Steve’s best friend. As they grew, it was quite obvious what was blossoming between them. Upon Steve presenting as an Omega, the Alpha in Bucky was already demanding his claim be put on Steve's pretty neck. But Bucky was the low-born son of a palace cook and Steve was the heir to the throne. Theirs was a love not meant to be. The King had not pushed for more heirs after having a son, and after his son failed to turn out the Alpha he had wanted, he refused to see an Omega take the throne. His Omega child would have to bear Alpha sons, and soon. So the King arranged for a tournament to be held; the prize, the Omega-Prince's hand in marriage. Per the laws of the kingdom, entry to the tournament was open to any honorable knight, bearing he pay a fee. That fee should have ensured that no Alphas of low status entered and certainly, the King would not willingly allow his son's best friend, knight and member of the Queen's Guard though he be, compete in the tournament. It was fortunate, then, that fate was on the side of the underdog that time.
