Summary: "You almost died," he gasps breathlessly between kisses. "You could have died, Jim."

Snippet: Things are silent between them again—a tension seems to fill the air around them. Once they turn into a hardly used corridor, Leonard whips out his tricorder and begins to scan Jim's vitals.

Jim smacks his hand away. "Jesus Christ, Bones, really?"

"Yes, Jim, really."

"I went to the med bay and was discharged," Jim protests. "You don't need to do that."

Leonard ignores his partner, continuing to analyze the readout as they walk, not missing a step. Checking how Jim is with a tricorder and walking at the same time is second nature by now. "I need to see for myself."

Jim huffs, "Want or need?"

"Need," he growls.

Jim sighs louder than necessary. "Okay then. Go ahead." He understands, despite finding it annoying, and allows him to continue with his work.

Eventually, Leonard finishes and flicks off the tricorder, satisfied with the results. Jim is fine, a few scratches here and there, but fine. No lasting damage.
