Okay what is the foxhole court? It looks interesting and I know I could Google it but I want to hear about it from someone who really likes it
its a series of young adult (? deals with some things that are a bit more intense than most ya books but the main character is 18 so idk where it fits) books. the main character, neil josten, is on the run from his father’s gang and on his own now that his mother is dead. he’s hiding out in a small town, going to school, and playing on their exy team (an invented sport for the ‘verse of the books. like a more violent version of lacrosse). he’s scouted by a college exy team. big risk for him bc that makes him kind of high profile, his face in the media etc but its also his dream. even better: the team is basically a ragtag bunch of misfit troubled kids that the coach is giving a second chance to so like… its a really wonderful found family story. and the palmetto state foxes are the underdogs of college level exy so youve got your classic sporting drama of rising to the top through hard work and team bonding. also neil is ace spectrum (demi?) and sga plus theres two other gay characters and neil’s romance plotline is with one of those boys. three of the members of the team are girls and theyre all amazing. and then you also have all the stuff that goes along with having a yakuza gang and their american allies as your enemy.
so: warnings for fairly heavy drug and alcohol use incl neil being drugged against his will in the first book. the second book has a scene where neil witnesses another character being raped. the scene isnt long or gratuitous but it also doesnt mess around with inuendo (nora sakavic handles this stuff very well, lots of focus on the utmost importance of boundaries and explicit ongoing consent, she is very good at writing characters dealing with trauma). theres a brief torture scene at the end of the second book and a fairly long one at the end of the third.
