Did I tell you part of the Eridanus High School student body includes some homages to my favourite characters and ships? And sometimes they might include some, ahem, personal agendas and commentary about the ships, like in this Taang/Zutara (Avatar: The Last Airbender) homage.
I do want to have a filler episode about shipping wars, though, and I know just the two or three Z&L characters (most likely Aiden and Amanda) involved.
Though you may have heard, since we've been advertising it constantly for the past while, we are working on an original cartoon project called Psychomachia!
A few things you need to know: first of all, this project is UNPAID. While we understand this can make it seem unappealing to someone more experienced, we hope that this can be an opportunity to learn and grow, and especially to have fun!
So far, we have a writer, a storyboard artist, two colorists, and six voice actors for the main cast! Unfortunately, animating is a process with a lot of moving parts (literally), so we're going to need some more people for that.
Before we get into that, we want to show you a bit of what we've been working on, so you can get a feel for the project!
Here's a bit of the storyboard, done by the wonderful @Aspen67!
Very cool, right? :D
So, if you clicked "keep reading," we can assume that means your interest is piqued. Good!
Now, let me tell you a little about what the story is about.
Our story follows Israel; A Nephalem born of an angel and a demon, a.k.a., his parents: Paul and Persephone.
In the afterlife, there are multiple jobs to chose from, but the toughest and most fulfilling is the role of an Id or Superego (working titles). Their job is to guide the person they're assigned to to a path of righteousness...
Or a path of deviance...
Being a Nephalem, Israel has a tough time getting a job--- and when he finally does, he's assigned to a very not good little girl named Rebecca.
Sound fun?
If you made it this far, we can assume you're at least somewhat interested, right?
While we're also looking for people to work on music and sound design, our main focus right now is animation. There are a few specific roles that need filling that we'd like to focus on for now.
For all
It would be good if you have:
experience with digital drawing (it doesn’t have to be much – you hold a pen in your hand a few times – you’re good!)
a program that that allows you to save images in png. format
discord for communication
AND a passion for animation combined with good vibes only :D
And for specific roles...
LINEARTIST
Your part in the project:
You'll receive an animatic with keyframes and rough in-betweens. Your job will be to make the lineart of all moving parts (mostly people).
It would be good if you have:
- smooth, consistent lines
- the ability to maintain a consistent art style between frames
- and the ability to imitate other styles (you don't have to be a copy machine!)
BACKGROUND ARTIST
Your part in the project:
You’ll get sketches of a BG and your job will be to turn them into a rendered BG art piece, that can by used directly in the final animation.
It would be good if you have:
a basic understanding of perspective, light and shadow and colors
different parts of BG on separate layers/images saved (so we can move them in post if needed ^^)
COLORIST (SHADING)
Your part in the project:
You’ll get colored drawings with a BG and your job will be to set characters in the scene by placing shadows and reflections in the right places.
It would be good if you have:
a basic understanding of shadows and lights
the ability to feel the mood of each shot and transfer it into the animation
REVISIONIST
Your part in the project:
You’ll be shown the animatic and then the final animation; and what we want you to do is to look for mistakes – in consistency between the frames, in perspective, and other things, etc – and then suggest options on how to fix them.
It would be good if you have:
some experience in animation and a basic understanding of every part of it (so you know how it basically works)
the ability to make clear notes about mistakes you’ve found
enough confidence to share your opinion on things!
Wowza!
Of course, there can be more than one person for each role, one person dabbling in multiple roles, etc. We need people and will fit them where we can, if you choose to join.
If you ARE interested, you can contact us at any one of these places:
This is a short Cartoon Project I have been working on for almost a year now and have a full voicing cast!! Looking forward to work with all these amazing people and produce an great cartoon!!
I've always had a soft spot for animated stories about animals, especially the ones that aren't afraid to tackle more serious themes.
This project reminds me of the animated films and shows I grew up with in the 2000s. There's something about its style and atmosphere that feels very nostalgic to me.
It's a shame that traditional 2D animation is so expensive and time-consuming, because I'd love to see more independent projects like this. Stories with heart, ambitious worldbuilding, and animal characters are becoming harder to find these days.
Anyway, here's my little tribute to a project I've been following for years.
Prue's been kind of a wallflower of a character up until season two. She's been sweet, quiet, dedicated, optimistic, and she puts the needs of others over her own. Come her parents' divorce in season two, though, Prue's life is turned upside-down. Everything she knew--her security, her family, her identity--it all feels like it's pulled out from under her. She's lost and vulnerable, but she tries to keep it close to the vest, determined to preserve her independence and protect what little is left of her sense of self.
She doesn't dress in bright colours anymore. She doesn't carry herself well. She chopped her hair. She stopped doing well in school. But no one notices. Her parents are split off to their own thing. Her siblings are split up, too, the elder to take care of her father, the younger to be with her mother. And Prue? She's in the void. She ends up staying with friends a lot. She starts crashing with a lousy crowd. She takes up with a school bum named Mutt. Prue can't see it eating away at what's left of her--not that she feels especially deserving of better--and she can't let her friends in to help.
It's only during a trip to the astralverse--a parallel, zodiac-themed magical realm accessible through the light of a full moon--that it comes to a head. Again, her friends try to broach the issue, try to break through her shell one more time. Again, Prue is defensive, but now it starts boiling up. They press, she defends. They care, she doesn't feel worth caring for. Her emotions spike. All of her anger and hurt start spilling over. As she yells, group leader Zody notices a crackling from the moon portal. The velvet, shimmery light starts sparking and spitting. It's like it's been…electrified?
Tears start coming--something Prue hasn't let come in a long time. Something she refuses to bear. She tries to hold them back, deciding to rage instead. Rage is easier. Her emotions surge, and a deafening crack comes from the moon portal. Bolts of lightning erupt and empty into the sky with a bright flash and a blast that knocks the teens off their feet.
…and then, all is black.
The dark stillness is cut only by soft cries. When the shadows lift and the portal glows slightly, we see Prue crumpled over, her friends at her side, tears finally falling to the ground.
Development is slow, especially with real-life issues. I've been badly out of the loop but added a new "episode" to the list (no order yet):
- Loren [astral Virgo] tricks one of the kids to keep them in the astralverse
- A kid Zody babysits follows them into the astralverse. (One of the team sibs?)
- Jonah deals with losing his grandmother
- Prue's parents divorce and she snaps
- Kristen falls in love with a terminally ill girl
- Evan Kelly steals and loses the class pet.
- They meet a teen sensation and find out it's not all it's cracked up to be
- Amir, aka Prince Charming, writes romance fiction for his school paper. One of his stories features two boys, after which he finds friendship and popularity when he inadvertently helps the star quarterback, Godfrey "Fredo" Jones, come out.
- Amir & Avery end up gossiping about the group, and Amir publishes a story about a crush using barely-concealed names--Braden & Cody.
- Zody & Aiden pen a popular fantasy story, "The Sorcerer of Az," for English class, inspiring jealousy from Amir.
These are just the human-based smaller plots in mind. Still have a couple of planned Big Plots for the astralverse:
~ Leo transforms between cat and lion in proximity to the portal. Maybe their cover gets blown sometime?
-Dark Gemini breaks free of his twin and casts a curse on some of the kids, causing them to form dark doppelgangers that wreak havoc in the real world. (the very first plot written).
I *think* I have a 3/4 formula in mind. Access to the astralverse is only during the full moon, which generally occurs once a month, or one week out of four. This means three out of four episodes focusing on human life, with one taking place in the astralverse.
