Echo sighed and stopped in the clearing, refusing to hike any further. They had been sent out to relax and prevent Hunter from fully snapping due to the growing migraine and chaos from the ship. He whistled to his marching sergeant to draw his focus back on him before setting down his things. He set his headpiece down with his helmet, a show of his own desire to unplug and relax for the night, a cue he hoped Hunter would follow.
Hunter stopped and noticed the halt and call to stop. His mind was elsewhere, everywhere and no where all at once, he couldn't focus more than just putting one foot in front of the other and didn't want to stop the hike. Yet he groaned but relented, returning and settling his things with Echo's. Silently he settled down next to his corporal and accepted the ration bar he offered.
His batchmates had been giving him a migraine with their fighting and squabbles. Tech's projects kept getting disturbed, Crosshair's toothpicks spiced in revenge, and Lula was hidden somewhere as an innocent caught in the crossfire. Echo, aware as always, got Hunter out of the loud and chaos before the migraine turned into a full meltdown. Sure he phrased it as something the others had sent the pair out for... but that was only in jest.
Echo was at Hunter's side to ensure he relaxed, by any means necessary. He was talented in the methods to soothe the rough edges of his vod. He may have lost half of his feather light fingertips but Hunter was well versed in the goosebumps just a single set could bring.
Under Echo's hand, he was torn between the desire to know what he was like with both skillful hands at his disposal and the fact that he could barely handle what one gave him.
It was not long before armor and blacks were being stripped to give Echo access to his skin. Having his hands over the plastoid, tapping along the armor and tracing along the edges teasing him to the point of breaking. Hunter needed his hands on him more than air; which was already hard to come by with how feverous and desperate their kisses were. Clashes of teeth and lips, traces and lines lingering between them at each break for air.
At the first touch of fingertips on his tattooed chest, Hunter was gasping. Warmth in the night in as many ways as his lust drunk mind could come up with.
Echo pulled relaxation from him with each stroke of his hand, every kiss peppered along his jaw and neck, sliding closer between one another's legs...
It was a corporal's job to assist the sergeant with his duties and provide aid when needed.... and Echo was a damn good corporal. Hunter would remind the stars of his name repeatedly in the night, falling into the feelings Echo pushed and pulled out of him, getting lost in the praise Echo whispered in his sensitive ears.
By dawn Hunter was limp in Echo's arms and had no plans to return to the Marauder any time before the next sunset. When he came down off his own high, he would ensure his corporal fully relaxed as well.

Summary: Crosshair Se and his little sister, Omega, travel to the town of Pabu for a fresh start--a safe place for Omega to grow up. All he wants his peace and to be left alone. That flies out the window when he meets Hunter Fett and his brothers.
After this last cattle drive season, Hunter Fett and his brothers plan to skip the next season to stay at their home in Pabu for an extended period of time for the first time in ages. He's ready for an easy life. Then Crosshair and Omega Se come to town asking about buying the ranch next to their own.

Snippet: He pulls down his bandanna from over his nose and mouth so it rests under his chin. The dust isn't as bad here as it was crossing the territory—a small bit of luck. "It's small," Crosshair comments frankly—probably sounding cold and uninterested.
"It's perfect."
Crosshair twists around to see his little sister smiling brightly, her eyes shining. Omega is already in love with the place, that's for sure. Crosshair can practically see the wheels turning in her head with all the things they'd do here. Planting pretty flowers around the border of the house and painting the fence. Maybe getting some rocking chairs on the porch to rock in, watching the sun set after a long hot day, and with Batcher lying down between them. A garden out back with carrots, beans, and potatoes. Maybe even using some apples from the little orchard they saw on a corner of the ranch to bake pies or brew up some cider. He can imagine Omega is picturing riding her horse, her long blond hair flying free in the wind, brushing her horse, and taking care of it in the barn next to the house. Knowing his sister, Omega is probably thinking of entering some nearby rodeo with her horse too.
Crosshair can imagine it too, in his own way. Living their lives out here. Starting over. Safe. Far, far away from Tantiss. Far away from their parents' abuse.
"It's still small."
"We don't need something big, Crosshair." Omega moves and directs her horse to stand in front of him. "You like it just as much as I do. Admit it."
