I am already shuddering just thinking about all of the “new year, new me!” statuses I’m going to be seeing over the next few days. Making positive changes to ourselves and our lives shouldn’t be something we only think about doing once a year. I know it helps a lot of people to have set goals in front of them, but the statistics when it comes to keeping our resolutions are stacked against us. But for some reason most of us insist on creating them anyway…
So here's your antidote to all of the resolutions that you'll see your friends making that you know they won't keep. Here at Celestial we have created a list of simple and positive changes you can make to your life, none of which are going to make you miserable (unlike doing a juice cleanse.)
The most common resolution is to lose weight/get fit/go to the gym more. This is also the most commonly broken one. I am going to hazard a guess that it’s because we get to wrapped up in the left over holiday enthusiasm we set unrealistic (and possibly dangerous) goals for ourselves and then feel like a failure when we don’t see the results we want. So yeah, don’t do this. If you’re set on making a change to your appearance make sure that you’re doing it for yourself, set realistic targets and look after yourself.
Stop making negative comments about other peoples’ bodies. And don’t put down one body type to build another up. Body positivity for everyone in 2015, including and especially for yourself.
Keep a diary. Write about the old lady at the bus stop with the pink hair or the pulling faces competition you had with a toddler when its mum wasn’t looking. It doesn’t have to be good, just write. One day you can look back at your past musings and have a laugh at yourself.
Drink more water.
It’s probably about time you stopped pretending that you don’t listen to pop music.
Don’t let your self-worth depend on being validated by someone else.
Don't put up with your friends saying racist, sexist or homophobic things. Not calling them out isn’t being a good friend because you’re allowing them to continue being a rubbish person
Worry less of what others think of you.
Take more chances.
Learn how to deal with and combat your stress.
Remember that friends that make you feel bad about yourself aren’t friends.
Yoga, try it. So many benefits. (Thanks to Youtube, you don’t even have to leave your room.)
Stop comparing yourself to anyone else. You’re your own person and that’s completely okay.
Remember that you’re totally allowed to reinvent yourself at any point during the year. Change shows that you’re growing as a person and nothing is holding you back from being the person you really want to be.
Don’t get too caught up on your failures, concentrate on your successes.
Prioritise your emotional wellbeing. Be kinder to yourself.
