Lost Fic #79

1. Hello! I've been looking for a fic for a while now. What I remember most is that it's a fic where Aziraphale is used to Crowley coming in the last second to save him, but during their long fight he gets killed with mustard gas (during WW1 i think) and Crowley doesn't come, so he's very surprised when Crowley appears in 1941. I think there was a long and angst sequel? Thanks in advance! ~anon

2. Hi! Looking for a fic set after the apocalypse. Crowley and Aziraphale are being more open about their relationship, but due to 6000 years of having to keep it secret, they both keep temporarily forgetting that they're safe and freaking out when the other shows them open affection.

Specifically, I remember a chapter where they were in a museum (I think) and Aziraphale began worrying about how close they were standing together and that people could see them, and Crowley thought it would be funny to tell him that he loved him to see how he would react, and Aziraphale got super annoyed when he remembered that they were safe because it was super not helpful of Crowley to do that ~@cheeseanonioncrisps

3. There was a long-ish one-shot fic on AO3 where Aziraphale believes his love for Crowley is one-sided. Gabriel is trying to convince Adam to restart the apocalypse, unsuccessfully. He realises that Aziraphale loves Crowley, says "You know he can't love you back, right?" and leaves. Aziraphale flies right up a mountain, where Crowley finds him huddled in his wings. It turns out that Aziraphale had been blocking the love because it was overwhelming. ~@celiaequus

4. hello! i’m looking for a story that takes place in the Tony era and it’s right before crowley does his M25 presentation. crowley and aziraphale end up together before his presentation - which is why he wants a wahoo. very soft and good!! ~anon

5. Heya! Looking for a fic that might be multi-chaptered, and all I can remember from it is that Crowley and Aziraphale went to Anathema’s to celebrate a winter holiday that wasn’t Christmas (the whole apocalypse gang was there) Crowley and Aziraphale danced and it ended with Aziraphale falling asleep in the Bentley. ~anon

My sister gave my mum 'Sanditon' on DVD for Christmas. We just finished watching it and we're both SHOCKED BEYOND BELIEF at the ending. And all the freaking sex scenes. Bloody Andrew Davies thinking that sex is necessary. Jane Austen stories are supposed to be child friendly, at least compared to Dickens and the Brontes, et al. Anyway. What were your thoughts on it?

I haven’t seen it yet so I can’t speak to those specifics for myself!

On a broader note, however, I’m no fan of Andrew Davies’ focus on the titillation of white straight men in his literary adaptations and patting himself on the back for being ‘revolutionary’; but at the same time I wouldn’t argue that Austen is sexless content for kids, because there is scandal and sizzle all over the place in her novels. It’s how we frame it in adaptation that matters--who are we sympathetic to, and why? Who are we being urged to judge harshly, and why? Whose pleasure is being made central, both in the fictional universe and in the viewing audience? Austen is deeply sympathetic to who is harmed by reckless male sexual conquest (Lydia Bennet in Pride and Prejudice, Mrs. Rushworth in Mansfield Park, and young Eliza in Sense and Sensibility are never fully returned to genteel society, but they are protected and permitted to live comfortable lives, to a certain extent--they don’t end up dead cautionary tales,) and to gratuitously pervert that kindness and nuance with salacious scenes that make objects of seduced women who are then harshly discarded does Austen’s nuanced morality a deep disservice. I don’t know if that’s what exactly happened in Sanditon, but knowing Davies I wouldn’t be surprised.

I would very much like some sexy Austen with an inclusive feminist who understands the queer and female gazes at the helm...it just doesn’t quite sound like we got it, yet.

Crowley: The baby pigeons? The ‘are ducks real’? There is definitely such a thing as a silly question, and we get loads of them, so don’t encourage them to send in more.

I don't suppose there were any other cinemas you could've gone to? We haven't pre-booked tickets, but we'll probably go the day that it opens (the 24th). We've got a number of cinemas to choose from. Now, though, I'm thinking we should look into whether there are any seats still available. It's only two of us, instead of four, but who knows how quickly they'll sell out?

We could totally have gone to a VMax showing or a regular showing. There are limited seat in Gold Class though, only like 50 per showing or something. And I kind of feel like I’m being a picky bitch about a little thing but the point for me is - it was the ONLY thing I asked for. THE ONLY THING.

I make a lot of sacrifices and I ask for very little in return. That this was apparently too much to ask really hurts.

My (hopeful) theory re. the fallen powerline is that the ambulance is so dangerous that specialists have to be called in, and Nico and Levi are still shirtless. But after it's safe, they basically jump out and Nico is all "which forms do I have to fill in to date Glasses" and then offers to help Levi find his spare pair at home, and Levi's like "but I haven't had time to talk you up to my mom yet" but otherwise he's cool. And Bailey's all "forms FIRST".

I love how normal this is! like obviously they’d have to be checked first but after that they’d be just happy to be together. imagine them going to Levi’s mum’s and Nico would be like “don’t mind me Levi’s mum, I like your son, I think he’s sweet, brb gonna find his glasses now”

also, I think Levi would love to be called Glasses by Nico. he usually dislikes that because it reminds him and he’s still embarrassed, but when Nico does he’s just so soft

*hugs* I'm so sorry, Stancey. I know he was very loved, and you gave him the very best life he could have. <3

Thank you so much everyone for your kind words. They really did help. Friday night was miserable, and it was really odd to go to bed without a dog and then to not have one to come home to after work, but it’s slowly going back to normal. He was a very good boy and I was lucky to have him in my life.

I've longed preferred Fanny/Tom. We don't get to see much large-scale character development/redemption like we do with Tom (in JA's works), and Fanny just should've gotten better.

Right? Tom has quite the transformation in the last few pages, and there are hints that he’s given Fanny quite a few presents over the years - which is certainly more attention than she received from her female cousins or Mrs. Norris. As a matter of fact, I think he’s the only one to canonically have given her presents apart from Sir Thomas buying her a new dress for Maria’s wedding, her brother and Edmund’s necklace - oh or Mary and Henry Crawford trying to destroy her peace of mind by collaborating on that other one. So Tom caring for Fanny, albeit in the way a young not very steady man cares for an even younger female relation is canon. 

I just like to imagine Edmund sitting at his parsonage, having realized Fanny is the woman for him, and then she and Tom ride by and he’s like... what. 

And then being the priest of the parish he has to join them in marriage.
