Lewis' positive messages...."It's not over!" and his story about "Never give up"... these just made me cry right after I saw them😭 His mentality is so admirable, a true champion and a true role model.

I have to admit, I started to lose hope in the middle of the season for him to win the championship. The race yesterday clearly didn't helped with that. I still have a lil' hope but my nerves can't stand it and I cry and worry about it. I love him so much, he is my role model and I really want him to win his 8th championship😔💜

And when I see messages like that from him... I just can't...😭

The pain in his eyes is almost too hard to see. Let alone admit that we know how he feels. And that it scares us. I can feel that knee-jerk reaction to turn away, sweep it under the rug or make it into a meme. Our culturally acceptable response to any kind of emotional, spiritual, or mental health crisis has always been...

I ain't (insert unwanted, difficult, and/or painful emotion, need, boundary and/or truth here).

But I think it's time for that to change. I think it's time to flip the script on our breakdowns and ennoble our sensitive and easily damaged minds souls and spirits. Stop turning to that inner child that is crying and needs comfort and screaming something criticizing like "Why are you so bad!?" Or even twisted and cruel like, "You better stop crying or I'll give you something to cry about."

See. We are more like flowers or really beautiful delicate lace then we like to admit. If we're crushed a couple of times or torn we might never fully be repaired.* Heartbreak is real. Emotional trauma is real. Depression is real. Breakdown is real. And the need to heal, be acknowledged and cared for is real. And, it's okay.
