I found out from a coworker that she interviewed for a bunch of full-time, non-seasonal jobs that opened up with my old employer (FWS) this week. These were jobs I was also vying for too...and though I was skeptical that I had a chance at getting one of these positions...I had still hoped I’d get the chance to at least interview for one of them and plead my case.
It sucks that I spent 5 seasons working for them and wasn’t given this chance...and it sucks having to come to terms with the fact that I’m not good enough, or as good as I thought I was. It’s still something I’m really struggling with...and probably will struggle with for a long time to come.
I know I shouldn’t expect anything, considering my job by nature was temporary and disposable.
I can’t help but feel like a complete failure now and have found myself regretting entering grad school. It really feels like a complete waste at this point...and with my loans coming into repayment soon...it’s going to be a constant reminder of my failures.
I always told myself not to be a quitter and to try my hardest and eventually things would work out. But I realized I can’t continue sacrificing everything that’s important to me for a stupid fucking job. >_<
I feel like I’m almost ready to sacrifice this dream of having a career in my field. This voice in the back of my head tells me its time to figure out a new dream. Being almost 30...this thought of starting anew terrifies me...and I’ve spent the last couple months realizing that I’m going to have to make this decision soon.
I know it can’t possibly be more uncertain than the path I’ve been taking the last half decade...but that fact definitely doesn’t bring me any comfort.
I’ve hinted at this in a couple of my previous posts...but I think the universe or SOMETHING is telling me its time to move on. A few days ago I spoke to an old classmate who told me he’d be moving to Portland, OR in January to start a new chapter in his life. I asked him if I could come along for the adventure and he said yes.
I don’t know what I’ll do once I get there, how I’ll survive, or be able to afford my bills...HELL..I won’t even have any furniture if I make this move... But I feel like maybe the foggy winters in the Pacific Northwest will help clarify what my next step should be. Perhaps I’ll be inspired to try something completely new...
Have you guys ever had to give up on a dream? Or moved to an entirely new place with no certainty that you’ll be able to make it? I need coping mechanisms for the future panic attacks I’m going to have when I actually make this move...lmao...
