He was speaking to himself rather than to me; but my vexation disappeared in the interest which the words awakened. “Who then is Porlock?” I asked.

Stop Worrying So Much
Chapter 1
Ederson had been standing at this doorstep for what felt like hours. He hadn’t moved ever since he made the nerve-wracking trek from his car all the way to Kun’s house.
Swallowing thickly, he finally raised a fist to knock on the door, but just an inch before his knuckles connected with the wood, he froze. How could he just waltz into the man’s home, when it was his fault this mess wasn’t prevented in the first place?
Gritting his teeth, he let his arm fall back to his side. Maybe he could come back later. Go for a coffee, and just take a breather. And then come back and face Kun?
Ederson shook his head. ‘No. This is now or never,’ he thought.
Besides, he failed to do something when the accident first happened, Ederson refused to make the same mistake all over again.
He still remembered that horrific ordeal that turned their well-earned victory into a nightmare almost a week ago.
Kun was stabbed.
Just the thought of it makes Ederson grit his teeth. His friend was stabbed on their way back to the bus, high from an amazing victory, when someone broke through the lines of security and hurt him.
He had been standing just a couple of steps behind Ederson, just a couple of steps, and yet, the goalkeeper hadn’t been able to do anything. Hadn’t moved in time, hadn't stopped the attacker, hadn’t down anything at all.
Instead he froze, froze and watched his friend, his teammate crumble to the ground in a pool of his own blood.
Everyone had screamed and rushed towards the situation when the realization came down, but Ederson, Ederson had been frozen in his spot, unable to move even an inch. Watching in horrifying silence as Kun lay on the dirty ground, gasping for breath.
Ederson shook his head violently trying to expel the memories of the incident.
It was over now. The criminal was caught, Kun was safe, and everything was going to be alright.
‘Why can’t I just believe it then,’ he thought. ‘Why can’t I just accept that he’s ok and go back home and finally get some sleep.’
The man city keeper new he couldn’t do that though, not after everything, so he took a deep breath, manned up, and quickly knocked on the door before he could back out again.
“It’s open,” the familiar voice of Kun rang out from the house.
Shoving the door open, and stepping in, Ederson took a quick look around as he was taking of his shoes.
The house or mansion really, was huge, well decorated, and surprisingly homily.
“It’s dangerous to leave your door unlocked you know,” he called out, pattering his way into the living room, searching for the owner of the house.
“What can I say,” Kun called back, wheeling himself into the same room. “I love living on the edges of danger.”
Ederson glared. “Do you want to get stabbed again?” he asked
Shrugging, Kun nodded instead at the duffel bag swung over Ederson’s shoulder. “What you got there Edi?” he asked.
Letting the bag fall from his shoulder, and onto the floor, Ederson finally took the time to fully stretch his muscles out. “My cloths and some toiletries,” he mumbled with a sigh. “Am planning to stay with you for a while even if you mind.”
Kun blinked. “Say that again?”
“I’m planning to stay here with you until you heal up and can join the world of the living.”
“Ok,” Kun said. “So, I heard you right the first time.”
Ederson just grinned at him.
“Does Lais know about this big man?”
Walking away from Kun, Ederson slowly made his way around the first floor. Inspecting everything with a careful eye, and absorbing all the interesting Knick-knacks laying all around the place.
“She practically through me out the door,” he called back, picking up a match ball and throwing it in the air. “Said I should come check on you if I was that worried.”
“Aww,” Kun said. And Ederson knew he was grinning without looking back. “You were worried about me Edi?”
Putting the ball back, Ederson turned back around to face Kun. Seeing him in that wheel chair still tugged at his heart with guilt. “No, not really,” he said, lips twisting into a mocking smile. “I just needed an excuse to escape my dear wife for a couple of days, and you were the perfect triumph card.”
Aguero made a face. “Not cool man, you wound me.”
Ederson chuckled. “Just telling you how It is,” he said. “No hard feelings.”
“I won’t promise anything.”
Ederson scoffed at him, before taking another look around curiously. “Where is that lady that’s supposed to help you around here?”
“I sent her home.”
“You did what?” Ederson’s eyebrows lifted high up into his forehead.
“Yeah,” Kun shrugged. “She needed to get home to check on her kids, and I told her it was ok.”
Sighing, Ederson decided to let it go for now. “Have you eaten yet,” he asked instead.
“No,” Kun said. “But there are a couple of sandwiches that Lilian made sitting in the fridge.”
Nodding, Ederson made his way over to the kitchen, and pulled out the stack of sandwiches from the fridge. “Anything you want to drink!” he called out.
“A soda,” was his answer.
Shaking his head with fondness, he got everything ready, and walked back into the living room.
As he was putting their afternoon meal on the table, he noticed Kun struggling out of the wheel chair and into the sofa. He hadn’t been using it for long, ‘and hopefully not for much longer than that,’ Ederson thought.
“Here,” he said, reaching out to help.
“No thanks.”
Ederson stared at him silently. Kun stared back. Nothing happened for a whole minute, until Kun’s lips finally cracked into a reluctant smile.
“Fine,” he finally said, shrugging in defeat. Man could never stop himself from smiling, and he always lost because of it.
Grinning once again, Ederson helped his friend navigate gently onto the huge sofa, before sitting himself next to him, being careful not to jostle the other man’s injury.
Eating quietly, for a while, both of them just focused on their meals.
Finally, Ederson couldn’t keep it in anymore. “I’m sorry,” he blurted out.
Kun stopped chewing. “For what,” he mumbled, crumbs of bread falling out of his mouth.
Ederson grimaced at that. “For your injury,” he muttered. “For not stopping the lunatic that attacked you.”
Kun lifted an eyebrow. “And how would you have managed to do that?”
“I don’t know?” Ederson rubbed his forehead in frustration. “I could have tried to do something. Get in his way maybe? I just froze like an idiot. I was right there Kun! Right there!”
Taking another bite out of his sandwich, the man city striker chewed his food in peace for a while, giving their number one keeper the chance to calm himself down.
“So,” he finally said after swallowing. “Let’s say you had gotten in the way. You would be the one lying on the ground, and me sitting at your house feeling guilty? Am I getting it right?”
Ederson blinked. “Um, I guess.”
“How is that better for me than this?”
“I don’t know,” Ederson exclaimed. “I froze ok. My whole thing depends on reflexes, and when you needed me to push the attacker, call for help, do something, I froze!”
Kun grinned at him then. “I forgive you.”
Ederson snapped his mouth shut with a click. “What?”
“I said I forgive you.” Picking up his drink, Aguero took a sip. “Clearly if I tell you there is nothing to be sorry for, you will keep beating yourself over it for the rest of your sad life, so I forgive you for not helping me out, and now we can just move on. No hard feelings man.”
Ederson sank back into the sofa, shoulders loosening up.
“Feeling better now Edi?”
The goalkeeper took a huge bite out of his sandwich, chewed and swallowed. “Yeah, I actually think so.”
“Good,” Kun said, patting him gently on the knee. “When will you be leaving me then?”
Ederson slapped his hand away. “In two weeks like I said dumbass. I’m gonna make sure you don’t kill yourself while you recover.”
Sighing, Kun gave him a sheepish smile. “Worth a try.”
