Vol 8: Chapter 64: A shocking fact
Okay, Saezuru chapter 64 and what the fuuuuck, lol. God damn, this is it. This is the turning point. I finally restrained myself from looking at spoilers and waited until the chapter was fully translated to read it (thank you to @itwearsadress!) and man am I happy I did, because this has to be the most pivotal chapter since the time skip.
Doumeki just let it all out there, at last, and now Yashiro fully knows the truth, and I can only predict that he'll move heaven and earth in order to protect Doumeki now from whatever is to come.
My first impression with this chapter, really, is just how vulnerable both Doumeki and Yashiro looked throughout. Truly, this is the most emotion we've ever seen from Doumeki. He just completely dropped the facade and told Yashiro the truth, and particularly important, is that he reiterated to Yashiro that, to him, Yashiro is beautiful and kind and gentle and strong. He's fully confirming here that he's never felt any ill-will toward Yashiro, that he never hated him, that he never stopped loving him. I've been saying for a long time now that Yashiro believed Doumeki grew to hate him after the way Yashiro treated him in order to drive him away, and I think Yashiro's reactions here to Doumeki's confession really confirms that. He looks absolutely stunned, and then he's flustered and doesn't know how to respond at all to Doumeki's painful and obvious sense of guilt over Yashiro's eye. Typically, Yashiro starts to react with anger, I think because he's just overwhelmed by Doumeki's sudden emotional vulnerability, when since the start of the time skip, he's been so remote and distant. He doesn't understand why Doumeki is essentially apologizing to him, or taking the blame for Yashiro's injury, because of course Yashiro himself never blamed Doumeki for any of that. But we see Doumeki's still harboring a crushing sense of failure over not being able to be there to protect Yashiro from Hirata.
I also think one of the most pivotal moments of this chapter is Doumeki confessing that his intention was always to one day be with Yashiro again, that the entire reason he joined Tsunakawa's group was for that purpose, but that he'd initially thought it would take years, and when he unexpectedly met Yashiro again, his possessiveness and greed took over. Doumeki's regret and remorse for allowing those aspects of himself to control how he was treating Yashiro was palpable, and it's hugely important that he acknowledged that, because it clears the path for Yashiro to stop blaming himself for how Doumeki's been acting. Again, before, I think Yashiro was certain that Doumeki had grown to hate him, but now he knows that isn't true, and that Doumeki's unkindness since the time skip has simply been his desperate attempt to hold onto Yashiro and have him for himself.
Then there's Yashiro's question at the end, about why Doumeki is confessing all this now, when he'd worked so hard to conceal it before, and Doumeki just smiles at him before leaving to face whatever punishment Tsunakawa has planned. I think this is Doumeki finally letting Yashiro go and allowing Yashiro, at last, to be the one to choose. This is hugely, massively important. It's the first time in Yashiro's life where he's being given a choice, where he's being allowed to decide for himself what he wants. I really can't stress enough how important that is, and how it's likely going to impact Yashiro. Nobody's ever shown him enough respect or love to let him choose, not even Doumeki, but at last, Doumeki is doing the right thing, by giving that choice to Yashiro. It's a massive step for Doumeki, too, in terms of character development, finally accepting that whether Yashiro is in his life or not isn't his choice to make, finally accepting that he has to let Yashiro decide that for himself. I think this act of selflessness on Doumeki's part is also spurred on by his awakening to Yashiro still there in his apartment, watching over him. He can't continue lying to Yashiro or trying to force himself on him, he can't continue hurting him when he's reminded so plainly of who Yashiro really is, which is a loving, kind and gentle man.
I think it's obvious that Yashiro is going to choose to go after Doumeki. He knows now that Doumeki loves him, has always loved him, that it wasn't just some passing phase or immature attachment, but genuine love and respect. And we saw earlier in the chapter, too, that no matter how much Yashiro tries to pretend otherwise, when he sees Doumeki in distress or in danger, he can't abandon him. Yashiro's concern for Doumeki when he began to faint was plain as day, and I loved how the panels mirrored the same ones from early in the story, when Yashiro finds Doumeki asleep on the floor outside his room, watching over him. Now it's Yashiro falling asleep on the floor while watching over Doumeki. I have a feeling this is foreshadowing what's to come, which is that Yashiro is going to be the one to somehow save Doumeki's life, the way Doumeki once saved Yashiro's from Hirata.
This could either end happily or tragically. I can easily see Yashiro sacrificing his own life to save Doumeki's, or I can just as easily see Yashiro somehow figuring out a way to extract Doumeki from the situation he's in without anyone dying. We'll have to wait and see, but I seriously can't wait to find out. What an amazing, amazing chapter.

Miracle Child Chapter 64: Where You Are and If You're Safe
Wildvine sighs, and comes and crouches down next to him. “It’s time an’ past to be gone home, Little Capricorn,” she says gently. “You’ll feel better for havin’ slept.” “Don’t fucking patronize me. Get enough of that shit off of the big guy,” Gamzee mumbles. “I ain’t a wiggler.”
Hey folks! A short chapter, as I get back in the saddle.
