“Why did you get a new suit?”
Cuphead looked at Cala who innocently tried to make conversation.
In two days he’ll attend the ‘black velvet event’ so he got a new suit for it. No one knew he was going, and he’d like to keep it that way for now.
“I got invited to some big shot event, and I’ve been bored so I’m goin” Cala’s expression soured. “Oh I hate those, I can’t believe you’re actually going! Has your life really been that boring that you resulted to torturing yourself?” Cup laughed at that.
She was right, he hates these types of parties. He had to do this though. He had to. For that little boy that thought he damned himself and his brother to hell.
“It’s such a shame this beautiful suit will be used for such a purpose” Cala fake whined petting the suit apologetically. “I wanna say I’ll wear it again for somethin else but I unfortunately won’t” he will be burning this suit as soon as he gets home.
This suit will have a specific angel rune embroidered into it so they know where everyone is. To prevent stealing and unwanted visitors coming in. So this suit is going bye-bye.
“Did you start having have nightmares again?” Cuphead did not want to have this conversation.
“Yes” he answered truthfully, feeling no reason to lie.
Cala frowned, but she didn’t offer tips or advice. Instead, she looked him in the eyes, and for a split second, he feared she’d turn him into stone.
“Cuphead. Whatever you’re planning to do, you’ll regret it. But I know I can’t stop you, so make sure you don’t do anything too stupid.”
That’s it? No questions? No threats? Did she even plan to tell mugs?
“I won’t say anything to your brother.” Well… That’s reassuring. “For now” never mind.
“Oh! I recently met someone! Her name is Holly May and she’s a college student-” And just like that Cala returned to talking about her life like nothing ever happened. Like no words of warning were given.
That’s what he liked about her.
The Conversation switched to the topic of their wedding, she had the same look of love and affection In her eyes as Mugs whenever he talked about their wedding. It was set in the summer of next year, so he’ll have to endure few more months of this. Not that he minded of course.
Cuphead wondered if he’d bring anyone to the wedding. Mugs will definitely let him but he didn’t have many options, except a few flings and he doubted anyone would wanna come. Maybe he’ll bring his new pet.
No-no. He wouldn’t have enough time to train them to not cause a scene. That and Mugman would have his head if he brought some demon lord there…
Their conversation came to an end as Cuphead waved her goodbye as he turned toward his house, normally he would’ve walked her home but if he did that then he’d be stuck having a conversation with his brother and he’s too tired right now.
He fiddled with his keys in front of his door for a bit to let whoever was in his house know that he was back.
So much for just relaxing.
When he opened the door he was greeted by an angel. Sally.
“Welcome home Cuphead dear.” She was a toned curvy woman with hair the color of autumn leaves and a ‘regular’ always having someone to get rid of and was in no way cheap. He quite liked her, which is why he didn’t put a hole in her head for breaking into his house.
“Sally! Hello, you have another job for me?” Stars he hoped so, he might be dead tired and anxious for the ‘party’ but if she isn’t here for a job. She’s here for a warning. And she loves riddles.
She shook her head, ah damn it. “Sorry, sweetie I do not.” Please just tell him straight up, please just tell him straight up, please just tel- “There has been an accident with the demon ‘livestock’” she spat the last word, she didn’t like what they were doing to the demons but she understood it. But That wasn’t what Cup was thinking about right now.
“Is anyone hurt?” He asked, she gave him a look knowing he wasn’t referring to the demons. “Only some bruised egos”she waved her hand dismissively.
Sally sighed looking at him with furry and sorrow “i wanted to stop you from going but, I think it will do you good if went”
That was…. Surprising.. She was against him going from the start, telling him that none of the demons they captured were the ones that hurt him. Like he didn’t already know that, and it didn’t matter, they were still debtors. And they deserved to pay.
So to hear her say that was suspicious, to say the least, he didn’t know how to react. Maybe she finally got it? Maybe she finally understood how much all of them hurt people? How much he was hurt?
“O…Kay?” He spoke not knowing how to respond.
“Remember. If you don’t buy them someone else will” she glared at him, “yea?… that’s how these things go?” Sally rolled her eyes walking towards the door “Don’t do anything too stupid ” She squeezed his shoulder as she exited his house.
That was the second time he got told that.
