Asian Mix

The Mouse ran an errand to the doctor’s office, administrative, not medical. Picked up lunch from Asian Mix. Char Siu and Ginger Chicken with Rice Plate Lunch Lots of rice and food. At least 4 meals. The Mouse eats the char siu, and maybe some chicken :), The Cat eats the ginger chicken. Yum. Be well, eat well. The Mouse.

Sometime when the economy rice stalls are still in the midst of preparation, mum will just buy a roast chicken or half a roasted duck from Choo Chiang Roasted Meat Noodle House (珠江烧腊面家) along with a few packs of rice. Mum tends to overbuy considering most of the time only two of us are eating. She bought quite a bit of Char Siu (叉烧) which are the slightly fatty kind so you know the meat 🐖 will be succulent and juicy. I adore the parts that are charred as well as sweet and smoky at the same time.

Who doesn’t love a glistening reddish-brown Roasted Duck (烧鸭) freshly out of the oven? Here is half a duck 🦆 all chopped into ready to eat portions. The skin still retains some of its crispiness after mum brought it all the way back from Chong Pang. I am eating both the roasted meats with a pack of the savoury rice.

Mum had the bad habit of cooking too much. Here, she bought Roasted Duck 🦆 and Char Siu 🐖 in the morning, but she still fried the Red Snapper Fillet 🐟 and did the Cabbage Stir-Fry 🥬 with prawn 🦐, scallop and minced pork. There are only three of us eating and sis is on dieting, so she doesn’t need a lot of food. Even if I removed the fish, there are still plenty of food to be shared.

Since sis already made breads for afternoon tea, we told mum not to make anything elaborate for dinner. So, she whipped up Char Siu Fried Rice (叉烧炒饭) using overnight cold rice. The char siu sauce dyed the rice reddish-brown and imparted a savoury sweet aftertaste. Mum also fried fish cakes to go with the fried rice.

It's simple to make char sui using pork tenderloin on a charcoal grill, and it tastes just as good as takeout from your preferred Chinese restaurant!

Sis volunteered to buy home dinner, so we don’t have to go out to eat. She bought three dishes, one of which is our rice staple in the form of fragrant Yang Zhou Fried Rice (扬州炒饭). For meat protein, she got us the sweet & sour Imperial Pork Ribs (排骨王). The boneless slices of pork are tangy sweet and succulent. The last dish is Mixed Vegetable Stir-Fry (炒什锦菜) featuring cabbage 🥬, mushrooms 🍄‍🟫, carrot 🥕, black fungus etc...
