New Survivor: Hernando Romero, the Matador (Quick Thoughts and Story)
Guys, they already showed this man shirtless already. He's not even out and the fan service is cooked hot and ready to be served on a silver platter.
I'm sure most of you guys have already seen the new survivor's trailer but I still wanted to put up a post about him since there was some additional back story on him on Dashen that maybe some of you haven't seen yet.
(Again, Google translated so the translation might be a bit off.)
The passage below is similar but adds a bit more context.
I'm telling you all, the ones who have a smile plastered to their face have been groomed and/or conditioned to bury their pain and conflicting feelings with what they believe others wish of them.
Famous last words...looking quite dashing though. Time to die in style I guess.
So, I don't know how we're all feeling about the up coming survivor as I haven't seen much talk of him since he was revealed back in the December livestream.
What I do know was that he was already setting himself up to be a rather controversial survivor simply because he is a matador and if you know anything about bullfighting, you no it's...bad to say the least.
I myself only learned a lot more on the sport just last night after Hernando's trailer dropped in order to educate myself and well...it wasn't happy reading really.
Thus, I do find it interesting the developers and writers are centering a character on such a controversial sport. I won't say that's a bad thing however considering the nature of IDV taking on rather dark subjects and such, so I honestly wouldn't expect them to shy away from tackling just as dark, if not darker subjects. I quite like it actually as long as it's done in a respectful manner.
To Hernando's credit though, despite looking similar to Richard (I've seen so many comparisons...especially with their hair which...fair enough lol), unlike our dear controversial "Knight," Hernando probably won't be universally hated and condemned.
Seeing this scene with a clearly conflicted and upset Hernando being forced to kill possibly a bull he's grown attached to not only helps his case a bit but also was pretty...unfortunate to watch.
However, he grows up to be a dedicated bullfighter who lives off the thrill of facing death in the face. However, while it's easy to dismiss him at this point because Hernando is pretty blatant about his enjoyment over his job (at first...more on that later), it's also kind of obvious that he's basically learned how to cope and compartmentalized the fear and sadness he felt as a child.
Uh, not to mention he saw firsthand his father dying in the bull ring...
I was wondering who this was but if I understand the notes above correctly, this is his father.
I mean, this event literally scarred him and yet due to pressure and disappointment from his family who still forced him to learn the sport of bullfighting already under the impression that he was a "coward," Hernando probably had little choice but to push through.
So once again, we have adults pushing their ideals and wants on scarred children who were already mentally imbalanced and made them even more mentally messed up...
Like, Hernando seemingly starts going out to boxing rings (I believe it's boxing) to seek out even more opportunities to feel that adrenaline rush of fear of facing death, a feeling that he has grown addicted to for one reason or another.
Let that sink in, BOXING brings more of a rush for that sweet sweet thirst of dancing with death for Hernando than BULLFIGHTING.
Jesus Christ...
I told y'all...shirtless already smh.
But in all seriousness, I was pretty neutral about him before as I was waiting for his trailer to come out to have a better grasp at his character (I'm personally not one to be smitten with a character right off the bat from appearances alone usually).
Now, he has definitely piqued my interest and I look forward to learning more about him. So far he isn't tied to any character currently residing in the manor except apparently some say they say a picture of Emil somewhere in his trailer. I'm blind so I'm not sure where but regardless, it's not an impressive number like our last survivor, Amanda aka Lanternist.
But that's fine. We'll just have to see where Hernando's journey goes starting with his first birthday letter in like 2 years (haha...ha...). Well, at the very least, his essence will probably give us something.
Interesting looking essence tbh. I like it but COA is keeping me well fed. Anyone who is going to try to pull in 2 weeks (!!), good luck!
