Charter of the College of New Jersey, October 22, 1746 (the College of New Jersey changed its name to Princeton University 150 years later, in 1896)
[Carolyn receives a text from William: it’s a video of all the spirits gathered in the basketball arena, they barely show up on camera. behind them the band, in full uniform, plays happy birthday, and they all shout DEAR CAROLYN!!! at the appropriate part before bursting into laughter. as the camera moves Carolyn sees people in the stands and banners all around - class of 88, class of 92, class of 02, class of 13, and so on. the video ends.
and first Carolyn is confused. then it dawns on them; that today is charter day, and one hundred fifty years ago, on the day they turned 16, the school was founded. despite all the festivities planned for this special anniversary, they’d forgotten.
but not about their birthday. they were excited to have music class on the day, had plans with a friend, had been having a great time since coming home - home - for their last quarter of their senior year. this year, the 23rd wasn’t a day about Cal, but about them.]]
On March 2, 1867, #TheeMecca was chartered by Congress.
