During the Chartist movement they banned protests after sunset as they feared riots. But the reason the Chartists gathered at sunset was because they were working people fighting for the extension of the right to vote to working class men - so could only afford to gather in the evening after work. Make no mistake that curfews are an explicit direct attempt to silence the working class.
