Has anyone had any experience with online-only/virtual banks?
I'm thinking of signing up with Ally or something similar for a checking account for a debit card.
My problem with major banks is that I can't seem to find anywhere that is like my current bank. I need somewhere that doesn't have a minimum balance requirement AND/OR a minimum monthly deposit requirement. I need this because I live check to check so the second I get my check, it comes right out the same day I get it to go to rent and bills. If I didn't have ebt, I literally wouldn't be able to eat. I'm not exaggerating. I also need this because I often only have a couple dollars or a couple cents in my account for weeks at a time. If my account ends up in the negatives for me being punished for not having money, I'll very obviously have nothing to pay the negative balance with to get it back in the green since the second I get money, it will come right back out for rent/bills. So I'd be punished again and again until it would go to collections which is when I would FINALLY be allowed to close the card since you can't close a card if it has a negative balance on it. This has happened to me WAY too many times with major banks, who seem to expect people to always have money every single month, every single week & every single day for some reason??? Which, I'm not sorry... but I don't. So. It has proven VERY difficult to find another bank like the one I am banking with now that doesn't have those stipulations. 😩 At least... until I looked into online banks. They seemed like a good fit for me but then I looked into the online reviews and it's just split down the middle of hate and love, but a lot of them are regarding auto loans or something of the sort??? Which I could not care any less about. 🤷♂️🤦♂️ So...
Would really love it if anyone who has banked with a virtual bank could give their experience with them. Especially if they have any experience in relation to the issues I have faced with banking, whether those experiences be positive or negative. And yes feel free to recommend banks to me, too. But I've tried looking around and I've tried out a handful of banks in the past and all of the ones I've actually signed up with have screwed me over and all the ones I've gone in and talked to someone about opening an account have basically told me they wouldn't be a good fit for me... so don't be surprised if I say I've already tried there. 😅😅😅 Would still appreciate suggestions of places that DON'T have those stipulations!! If you're gonna say "Well they do have a minimum balance requirement/monthly deposit requirement, BUT-", I encourage you to stop right there and not waste your time lol. 🙃🙃🙃
*Virtual bank experience doesn't have to be Ally specifically but that's the one I was thinking of going with. 🤔🤔🤔
