Angela had known that Zarya was passionate. It showed in everything that the pink haired Russian did. From weight lifting to battle to just spending time with her, Angela knew that Zarya was passionate. She hadn’t really expected this, however.

This being together in a small space, Zarya’s hands on her lower back, keeping Angela’s body flush against hers as Angela gripped Zarya’s shoulders, feeling the muscle beneath her fingertips. She pulled back just a touch, panting soflty against her lips as she felt Zarya grin and begin pressing kisses to her neck.

“Zarya... they’re... they’re in the next room,” Angela whispered heatedly, biting her lip and gripping Zarya’s shoulders more. “What if they hear...?”

5 Headcanons for AUs | Accepting | @checkouttheseguns

1. Zarya’s tribe is/was nomadic and she’s very close to them. Angela lives in a cottage and one day they get too close. But they don’t trust her magic, so they stay very cautious. Zarya’s the only one who approaches with more kindness than caution and becomes the unofficial liaison to the witch. Angela doesn’t mind.

2. Angela is completely fascinated by the barbarians, Zarya specifically, but is trying not to come across as creepy. This sometimes makes her aloof. But, she is more than happy to help them with anything they need, even if they don’t trust her magic.

3. I wouldn’t say it’s a slow burn - I think Zarya and Angela take a while because they both get a little bit shy and have these awkward moments where they’re trying to ask one another, but once their relationship starts, it’s not stopping. 

4. At some point, Zarya has to decide between roaming with her tribe or staying and settling down with Angela, who can’t (for whatever reason) leave her cottage. Angela wants Zarya to stay, but knows that her tribe is her life, so she doesn’t really try to convince Zarya to stay. I don’t know whether this convinces Zarya one way or another, but it’s got some tense moments.

5. Zarya’s fascinated by Angela’s magic and the things that she knows, and they both end up teaching each other a lot of stuff. Also, cuddles by the fire are a big huge fuckin HELL YEAH.  👀 👀 👀 👀 👀 👀 👀 👀

There was something about Zarya that, every single time they spoke, threw Angela for a loop. Zarya wasn’t rude, not by any means. In fact, the woman was kind, curious... She was, honestly, a wonderful human being. Angela couldn’t figure out why, then, of all the things, Zarya made her stammer and stumble when she was normally much more composed.

“I... Zarya, that’s... thank you,” Angela finally settled on after stammering over Zarya’s offer, her cheeks turning a faint pink that she tried, in vain, to stifle more. “That sounds wonderful.”

 “Tell her to stop flying around in a mortar.” Zarya replied, trying not to grin as she focused on making dinner for the two of them. It was Kazakh noodles, heavy in onion and garlic. It was their ‘dinner whenever they got a chance’ night. Sometimes Angela joined them, but tonight she was on a mission. It was a strange little family that she was glad to have. “Tell me, has she found how to give her apartment chicken legs?”

“That grinding sound is probably her teeth.” Reinhardt knocked back the last of his beer before setting the empty bottle down on Zarya’s kitchen table to keep company with several others the two of them had already accrued over the relatively short space of the evening so far “You know the kind of things she has to deal with. If she did have a flying mortar and pestle she’d probably use it to get as far away from her patients as possible. Be nice.” He knew it was a futile request; at her age he wouldn’t have heeded it, and this particular apple definitely did not fall far from the tree. The thought provided him with a small feeling of annoyance quickly eclipsed by a singular, odd sense of contentedness. He sighed, not unhappily.

“Can you at least stop teaching the new recruits your bad habits?”

           “Ask me that when 512 is last years record.” Zarya replied, voice biting a bit sharper than she meant under the strain of the weights she was deadlifting. It was slow going, getting back into weightlifting shape. While the Olympics had been not too far in the past, training in the army was more often cardio and endurance training than her beloved strength. It was something she understood. Lifting heavy, while handy, was useless if it could not be sustained throughout the heat of battle. Something between a grunt and a shout escaped her as she dropped the weights back to the mat. “Add two more. I can do four fifty.”

“That’s better.” Reinhardt replied, fetching her the additional plates and adding them to the bar. “Keep this up and we’ll have you back in fighting shape in no time.” It was likely a bit of a white lie, but only a small one. Being on active duty didn’t really afford the kind of spare time she’d need to work her way back up to where she had been in her competitive days, but there was much progress to be made regardless. And the actual lifting was beside the point, really; Reinhardt had no real clue how to best approach the sudden familial relationship they’d had thrust upon them and so any shared interest that could be bonded over was important.

“You know you’re going to look awfully silly with that tattoo of yours crossed out.” He teased, nodding at the 512 that covered her entire left shoulder. “Why did you get that anyway? You were what, 25? 26?I never would have imagined you as a woman to rest on her laurels like that.”

Zarya and Reinhardt, even in light of her recent discovery of Reinhardt as her illigitimate father, have a relationship that’s still built - at least in part- on friendly rivalry.

The nigh-constant yanking of one another’s chains is a given but gods help anyone else who insults either of them within the other’s earshot. Zarya certainly doesn’t need him chewing people out on her behalf but he is an old papa lion and more than that, he’s an old papa lion with a lot of guilt to assuage.

It’s also worth noting that since Zarya joined the team Reinhardt has cleaned up his act a bit more than he otherwise would; putting a bit more effort into his gym routine and watching his diet a bit closer. (or at all, for that matter) She may be his own flesh and blood and he may be very proud of her but even at his age he’s still not quite ready to relinquish the title yet.
