I fell asleep and woke up to Inversion this morning so I'm going back to Confronted By Your Alpha.

I love Darlin and David's dynamic so fucking much actually. It's probably my favorite platonic relationship.

Even if they're both incredibly tense the moment Darlin opens the door, David's knee-jerk reaction is to be sassy with them.

"I take it Sam warned you 🤨"

(Paraphrased) "Props for not cut-and-running."

"Can I come in or ... 🙄"

I can see how him getting serious once the door is closed can be taken for him turning on the asshole switch (and he does a little tbf) but he's not demeaning Darlin in any way. He's being incredibly careful in how he speaks to them, what he says in order to convey that he's upset they lied and tried to take all of this on by themself but he understands why. And not because of any outside influence. But because of their personal history.

"You know better than any of us what he's capable of, and what he'll do ... He's not going to go after you, he's going to go after the people he can hurt." (He already has)

"You faced off against two vampires with no backup, no thought for your own life! You're on some vendetta against a bloodthirsty sociopath and you didn't think that was something you might want to bring up to your Alpha?" (You could have been killed and you didn't trust me enough as your Alpha to say anything.)

"Mad is not enough of a word for it. Frustrated, disappointed, worried" (hurt)
