A/N: My first Chen writing to celebrate his birthday :)
You had been waiting outside your building for Chen for nearly 10 minutes. He had promised to meet you here for date night, but you were starting to think you might just give up and go back in. No sooner had thought crossed your mind, someone snuck up beside you and placed a quick kiss on your cheek.
You jumped slightly as you looked round and found Chen grinning at you.
"Where have you been?" you asked, trying to be stern, but failing miserably when you couldn't help but smile back.
"Does it matter? I'm here now," he replied, pulling you in for a proper kiss before you could respond.
"You're lucky you're cute," you told him, squeezing his cheek.
He grabbed your hand away from his face and laced his fingers through yours so you could walk to the restaurant hand-in-hand.
"Honestly, I just took longer getting ready than I'd planned for," he explained as the two off you headed off. "I wanted to make sure I was looking my best for you."
"You always look amazing."
"So do you. Especially right now."
"Thanks, I put a lot of effort in too," you said, doing a little pose and making him laugh.
With your hand still in his, he pulled you close again and bringing your hand to his lips pressing a quick kiss to the back of it.
Jongdae is a huge lover of affection, he loves to be as close to you as possible when he has the chance. In his eyes, his most important role is filling you with love, which also turns out to be the easiest job in the world for him.
B ⇴ BEFORE DATING
The two of you met at the company, Jongdae spotted you on the other side of the cafeteria and couldn’t look away. Kyungsoo and Baekhyun who were with him at the time quickly spotted him staring, trying to encourage him to go over and say hello to you before you ended up walking away and ignoring him.
C ⇴ CONFESSION
After finally being pushed to approach you and say hello, Chen was very quick to ask you out for coffee. He was confident in himself and knew he had the charms to impress you straight away. You were slightly taken aback that someone had cornered you at work, but you were quickly drawn to Jongdae’s smile and friendly approach, accepting his request of joining him for coffee at the end of your days together.
D ⇴ DATES
Your dates with Jongdae vary, sometimes they will be casual dinners and drinks, other times he’ll be happier taking you bowling or for something competitive. He likes to think that he knows you very well and will pick accordingly on what he knows you will like. He prides himself on putting a lot of effort into your dates, always trying to impress you with each one. He loves to surprise you with something new, nothing is ever predictable when Jongdae is organising something for the two of you to do together.
E ⇴ EXPERIENCE
Jongdae had little experience in dating before he met you, there had been a few blind dates that his members had set him up on, but nothing ever worked out. With you, he was determined to make sure your relationship was as private as possible so that he could protect you. He knew if he was going to start dating it would have to be special, he couldn’t risk his career, the group, of your safety going wrong. Once he was sure he saw something special with you, he decided to go ahead and start dating you properly.
F ⇴ FIGHTING
Arguments are very rare with Jongdae, he’s optimistic and tries to look at the good things out of any situations. However, he does have a bit of a stubborn streaks, if he wholeheartedly believes that he’s right, it will take a little while for you to convince him that he might just be wrong. He’s mature enough to know when to back down though and recognise when the two of you need to put an argument behind yourselves and move on. It might take a while for him to go back to being his loud self, but once he feels comfortable and happy again, it will be like an argument never happened between the two of you.
G ⇴ GETTING TO KNOW HIS FAMILY
He was very close to his family, which made you very nervous to meet them all. Jongdae had told you all about them so you could impress them when you first met them, and luckily it worked. Seeing how interested you were to get to know them certainly made them fall in love with you even more than they already had done.
H ⇴ HOME
After a few months together, Jongdae knew he was ready to take the next step with you. He missed having noise around since he moved out of the dorm, and having you around was the perfect chance for him to have some company again, and also take the next step in your relationship together, making things even more official.
I ⇴ “I LOVE YOU”
Jongdae was the first to say ‘I love you’ once you’d shown up at his place unexpectedly. You didn’t know where else to go, but knowing he’d been the one you chose to call made his heart swell. He quickly welcomed into the house to reassure you and comfort you, he couldn’t help but say those three little words to you.
J ⇴ JEALOUSY
He was one of the louder people in the room, so he often found that naturally he had your attention. If he didn’t, and began to feel jealous, he’d make himself a little louder so that he could try harder to get your attention. You’d be able to tell straight away when he was getting jealous because he’d become a lot more vocal, interrupting conversations when usually he wouldn’t. Once you were back with him, you’d quickly assure him he had nothing to get jealous about and that you could always hear him loud and clear.
K ⇴ KIDS
Jongdae made no secret of the fact he wanted to start a family with you, it didn’t matter when to him, he always told you that the two of you would know when the time was right. He’d often sit and tell you about the dreams and ambitions he had for the future, but one thing that would crop up in every conversation was children, he just couldn’t see himself in the future without a little family of his own, preferably with you.
L ⇴ LAUGHTER
He was loud and loved to make you laugh as a result of it. He loved to do aegyo around you too to try and make you smile. Jongdae would do whatever it takes to make you smile, on the days when you showed up at the end of a long day, he’d refuse to let you go home until you had a smile back on your face. For him, his smile was wide just having you around, all you had to do was look in his direction and a shy giggle would come from him, it was just a natural instinct, he enjoyed having you around as much as possible.
M ⇴ MISSING
Jongdae made no secret of the fact he missed you, whilst he kept a smile on his face throughout the day when he was around the others, as soon as he was alone with you, he’d let you know exactly how he felt. The two of you were helpless for each other, he knew you struggled too however much you tried to support him when he was feeling down. Jongdae would always plan at least ten minutes into his day to be able to give you a call, even if it meant that he had to get up at three in the morning. It didn’t matter when, where, or how, he would always make the time to check in on you and check that you were alright.
N ⇴ NICKNAMES
He loved when you called him by a nickname, often responding with aegyo. He’s playful, and depending on how you call him, he’ll either shower you with affection, or tickle you until you’re left as a mess on the floor.
O ⇴ OBSESSION
Jongdae is obsessed with your voice, the sound of your voice always makes him feel safe, even on the low days, hearing you nearby is enough to help pick him up and encourage him to carry on.
P ⇴ PDA
Most of the time, Jongdae isn’t afraid of a little PDA, but usually he will keep it lowkey. His affection usually comes from a place of protectiveness, he’s determined to keep you safe from everything, so he’ll tend to hold your hand and guide you around to make sure no one or nothing can get in your way and harm you.
Q ⇴ QUESTIONS
He loves to ask your opinion on performances or rehearsals. Whilst the opinion of the company and his team matters, what means the most to him is knowing that he’s made you proud and that you like what he’s doing.
R ⇴ RANDOM FACTS
When he can’t sleep or focus, Jongdae will often head over to his piano to try and distract himself. Once you picked up on this habit of his, you decided to set up a little den in his studio for the two of you to relax in. Most nights you usually ended up sleeping there rather than in your bedroom, you’d sit and listen to Jongdae play, and when he finally felt his mind relax, he’d lay down and join you in your den.
S ⇴ SEX
Incredibly loving and affectionate, that’s the best way to describe Jongdae. It’s a time for him to be serious, usually he loves to mess around with you, but he uses intimate times to really sit down and tell you how he feels. He talks a lot, he knows all the right, sweet, things to say. He loves to be as close to you as possible and will often whisper into your ear whilst trailing several kisses along your jawline and neck.
T ⇴ TEXTS
When he hasn’t got much time, Jongdae uses texts just to have a bit of communication with you. It’s not his ideal method of communication, but if he hasn’t got any time to call you, then a text will have to do.
U ⇴ UNIVERSE
Jongdae loved having you in his life, he loved having someone to settle down with and begin to build a future with. He’d always been a family man, but now he had someone by his side, it made everything a little brighter.
V ⇴ VACATION
Whenever the two of you had the chance, Jongdae would take you away. He loves to use your trips for inspiration, but you will also make sure he takes it as an opportunity to rest and recuperate before heading back to work. He pulls out all the stops to make sure these trips are perfect for the two of you.
W ⇴ WHINING
If he doesn’t get his way, Jongdae will definitely let you know. He can be stubborn when he wants to be, which is something you’ve come to learn the hard way.
X ⇴ XXXXX
Jongdae loves to kiss you, especially against your neck and cheek. He might not be the tallest member, but he asserts his dominance with you whenever he can. From you, he’ll beg for a kiss often, he’ll often come up beside you when you’re busy with a pout or tapping the side of his cheek to drop the hint of what he wants. You’ll try and move away from him, but eventually Jongdae will make sure he gets what he wants.
Y ⇴ YOU
You were his everything, the absolute love of his life.
Z ⇴ ZZZ
Jongdae would fall asleep every night with you in his arms, his hands would tickle against your waist to try and comfort you into a sleep, he’d lay awake and keep a close eye on you until you slept, and then he could sleep comfortably.

“You know…” Jongdae starts for what feels like the countless time this afternoon, only furthering your regret for inviting him to this cake taste test. “I can’t say I like this one, either.” He says the words while his teeth hold his fork in place, bite already deep in his full stomach from every other flavor the bakery has to offer.
“You’ve said that about the last dozen, Dae,” you groan out, dropping your own fork back onto the small sample plate. If you have to take another bite of cake or icing, you’re entirely sure you might call off the wedding altogether.
He frowns after dropping his own plastic silverware -- and you can’t help but notice the few crumbs that move with his drooping lips. Without a word, you hand him a napkin from the table, and he wipes his face without even blinking. You’re always taking care of him.
“It’s not my fault the past dozen weren’t good enough.” He sighs, leaning back and patting his stomach.
You playfully swat his arm, hoping the bakery owner isn’t eavesdropping from her position in the kitchen. “You can’t just say that!” you seethe, though it’s clear your tone is far from harsh. Jongdae can never truly get on your nerves, and that’s the exact reason he’s the one in the chair across from you, playing footsie with you under the table.
It takes a second to pick up all your trash -- Jongdae has never been the neatest person -- and you mentally remind yourself to leave as big a tip as you can afford. And as he attempts to balance his plastic fork on his nose, you think anyone who has to spend a day with his shenanigans deserves some compensation. Oh, how rich you’d be.
The friendly woman returns a few minutes later to get your opinion on the newest flavor -- one you can’t even remember or distinguish in the flurry of tastes -- and thankfully your light kick to Jongdae’s shin under the table is enough to keep him from saying something that will cost more than your wedding budget can afford.
“Oh, we just can’t decide what to choose yet,” you lie, ignoring the snort from the smirking man across you. “So many options!”
You only join in his laughter once the door to the bakery is closed behind you, and the spare twenty in your back pocket has been safely deposited in the tip jar up front.
“You are insufferable!” you practically wheeze, bumping shoulders with Jongdae as you walk down the quiet street. “That poor, poor woman.” It’s quite ironic, you think, considering you feel very lucky as his warm hand grasps at yours. The tender feeling in your chest is certainly compensation enough for you, it seems.
He just grins, no remorse visible as he starts talking about the next bakery nearby. “You know…” he begins, and you let out the most exaggerated sigh possible, though it quickly turns into a laugh deep from your chest.
Jongdae continues to ramble, and you listen faintly to his fantastical ideas that’d empty your bank account in the blink of an eye. But, as his signature chuckle appears, and he squeezes your hand in that extra tight way that always manages to make you feel loved -- you can’t help but think, yes, this is exactly where I want to be.

The calm serenity of the starry night and the chill December air is a welcome contrast to the suffocating warmth and boisterous laughter of Junmyeon’s annual Christmas party. On the street down below, the occasional car passes by, interrupting the quiet evening. Your eyes flutter close and of course it’s his face that pops up as soon as the darkness consumes your sight. You let your lungs fill with cold fresh air as you draw in a deep breath and decide that it’s time to head back inside before someone comes out to get you.
The glass door behind you opens with a gentle push and it seems you spoke too soon. Turning around at the sudden realization of company, you’re faced with Jongdae in the beige knitted sweater you remember gifting him last Christmas and a timid smile on his face. Unusual for him considering the many years you’ve been friends. From outside, you can still hear the conversation and laughter from inside albeit a bit muffled by the closed balcony door and you feel yourself longing for the warmth again.
“Out to get some fresh air?” You ask Jongdae as he takes his place beside you.
Jongdae gives a hum a ‘yes’ in confirmation but looks at you with concern lacing his eyes as you rub your hands over your bare arms in an attempt to heat up just a little.
“Are you cold?” He asks concerned and at the quick nod of your head he inches closer in hopes of radiating some of his body heat onto you. At his close proximity you feel yourself itching to put your hand over the one he has resting at the railing but decide against it, not sure if you could pass it off as just a friendly gesture. Probably not.
The two of you haven’t had a chance to truly catch up since the two of you arrived to the party hours ago. Jongdae too occupied with catching up with Minseok who had finally gotten a break from his military enlistment while you opted for the company of Junmyeon and Joohyun. It feels nice catching up and Jongdae tells you of his latest project, one with a new producer called Chanyeol who recently started up his own studio. It’s all fun and passion for now but you can tell he’s proud and you fall in love with him just a little bit more.
Falling in love with Kim Jongdae was a slow process of noticing your heart racing with every harmless touch and cheeks flushing whenever you got caught staring too long after years of knowing each other. Even now, his hand finds a comfortable place on top of yours as you both stay in silence. His fingers graze lightly over yours and a shiver runs down your spine, making your body shiver.
“Maybe we should head inside, it’s getting cold,” you tell him in an attempt to play off your shiver as a side effect of the cold winter night.
“Yeah. They’re probably wondering where we disappeared to,” Jongdae agrees and holds the door open for you to walk inside.
The warmth of Junmyeon’s apartment is a lot less suffocating this time around as you walk into the living room area where your friends are all huddled up on the couch, floor and chairs brought in from the kitchen. You stop to observe them by the door frame and notice Jongdae doing the same, trying to play it cool as he lazily rests his arm upon your shoulder.
“Yah! Where did you two run off to?” Yells a slightly tipsy Minseok from his place on the couch and beside him, Joohyun rolls her eyes and elbows him lightly.
“Let the love birds be, Minseok, don’t tease them too much or they’ll never confess,” she chastises.
On the floor Junmyeon speaks up. “I don’t think we’ll have to wait too long for that.”
With eyebrows drawn together in confusion you ask what the hell he’s talking about and Jongdae looks just as lost as you.
“Look up,” is all Junmyeon says and the room erupts in dramatic gasps and not at all discreet giggles as realization dawns upon both you and Jongdae at the sight of a small bundle of mistletoe hanging above your heads.
Panicked, you turn to Jongdae who looks calm aside from the sheepish smile on his face and the silence taking place after your friends calm down is almost more deafening than their loud cheering. Your eyes fall on Jongdae’s lips and in a split second everything melts away as his soft lips are locked with yours in a chaste kiss. He pulls away and you let your forehead rest against his, noses bumping as you lean in for a second time and your group of friends once again let out various cries of joy, “ooh’s” and “aah’s” when Jongdae pulls you closer by your waist.
Your eyes were glued to the entrance of the pub, barring the occasional glances you took at your phone. Between Jongdae and you, you were the tardy one. He was never late. What's taking him so long?
You were especially anxious today because of what he said over phone last evening - I have something very important to tell you. You have to meet me tomorrow. Please!!!! He whined. True Jongdae-style.
You tried your best to not read too much into it. Jongdae and you had been friends quite sometime now and over the past few months your heart had started gravitating towards him in a way that was....more than just friendly. You, unfortunately, had let this secret slip over a couple of drinks. Now Chanyeol knew but he swore to complete secrecy. And you trusted him enough.
You were well aware of the fact that Jongdae didn't feel the same. He probably never would. So you tried your best to never let your feelings intensify lest you end up ruining your friendship with him. So far you'd been successful at guarding your heart. And you lauded yourself for that.
"Ahem", a male voice made your head turn.
"Jongdae! Where have - I'm sorry, I - I thought it was my friend"
It was not Jongdae. It was an unknown guy, probably in his late twenties.
"Hi... I swear I've never done this before", he said with an awkward laugh, "do you mind if I join you?"
Now this was a first. A complete stranger, and a good looking one at that, was probably trying to hit on you. This was straight out of a rom-com and it made you want to laugh. You couldn't wait to tell Jongdae about it. You were already having a full fledged mental conversation with him. Shit!
Not knowing how to react, you simply said, "I'm actually waiting for a friend", almost apologetically.
"It's alright-", he started and before you knew it, Jongdae positioned himself between you and the guy and studied your face intently.
You got off your chair instantaneously almost as if you had been caught doing something wrong.
Jongdae was dangerously close to you. His eyes boring into your soul. You felt the heat rising in your cheeks. Was this actually happening? He wrapped his arms around your waist, his face inching towards yours. Closing your eyes, you leaned in closer. His lips finally met yours and you felt like your heart was going to leap out of your chest.
"Mine", he said when your lips parted and placed a gentle kiss on your forehead.

Part of the Halloween drabble game
The television was a blur as you let the evening wash over you. Work had you tired and all you wanted to do was lay on your couch, relax and just watch whatever shitty sitcom that was playing on tv.
But your pet had other plans.
“God your lips would look so pretty wrapped around my hard cock right now.” Jongdae whined the words from the other end of the couch, his lips curled back into a smirk as he palmed himself through his boxers.
Usually Jongdae wouldn’t be so risky as to say something so dirty to his owner without permission, but as he was nearing his rut, he let his dick get past his better judgement.
“Jongdae,” Your tone was firm as you looked over to him, “You know better than to say something like that.”
His tongue darted out to moisten his lips, a moan falling off the rosy skin as his ears twitched gently from the pleasure he was giving himself.
“I-I know, Mistress, but-”
“No buts, Jongdae.” Your words were laced with dominance, your gaze steely as you looked over to him still palming himself, “Take your hands off yourself before I get the ties.”
Jongdae smirked, his eyes alight with a defiance you rarely saw in them, “And what if I want you to get the ties, Mistress?” His ears twitched as he let out a rather loud moan, his hand pushing down his boxers and leaving him fully hard and exposed in front of you.
Your patience was wearing thin, you were in no mood for Jongdae to push his place as your pet nor were you in the mood to be light with your punishments.
“Pet, you’re pushing it,” You stood up as you spoke, walking the short distance to where he sat spread out on the couch, “I’m in no mood to take your shit.”
Jongdae growled in response, his eyes watching you intently as you moved to straddle his bare lap, “I just want you, Mistress,” His voice was a whine, one that hit you deep in the sudden arousal you started to feel watching him desperate and needy, “Please, please, let me cum.”
You grabbed his hand, guiding his fingers underneath your tight pencil skirt to slice the thin fabric of your panties with his claws. Jongdae inhaled sharply, his eyes clouded with lust and arousal as he watched the cotton fall down your thighs and onto his lap. Though his eyes went straight for the wet patch adorning the crotch of the fabric, his lips curling back into a smirk as he realised you were getting off on it as much as he was.
Jongdae’s hands smoothed up your thighs, pushing the pencil skirt further up your legs until he had a tight grip on your hips. His hair was soft in your fingers as you tangled the strands between them, tugging slightly on the roots to remind him just who was in control.
But Jongdae wasn’t in the mood to listen.
He brought your hips down, enough for him to be able to rub the head of his dick along your slick entrance. You almost moaned at the sensation, the head catching against your clit in a pleasurable sensation that left your body gripped with apprehension of his entrance.
“You like that, don’t you, Mistress?” Jongdae growled low in his throat, positioning your hips over his hardened cock, “Please just let me take the lead,” His voice was more whiny as he brought his lips to brush against the shell of your ear, “I want to please you for once.”
“No,” You let yourself sink onto his dick, watching the way he choked a moan at the tightness of your walls around his cock, “You’re my pet.”
“M-Mistress, please,” Jongdae choked the nickname out, trying desperately to regain control as you rocked your hips hard and fast against his.
“No, pet,” You growled, relishing in the way he whined his moans, how his head was thrown back and his skin was sweaty and begging to be covered in your marks, “You’re gonna look into my pretty eyes when you cum, yeah?”
“Y-Yes, Mistress,” Jongdae choked, the last comprehensible thing he could speak before you taught him his lesson.
Prompt: Jongdae + “I love you from the bottom of my heart but I don’t trust your cooking. Stay out of my kitchen.”
Setting/AU: Bakery
Warnings: none
Word Count: 964
If anyone asked you you’d tell them that you loved your boyfriend from the bottom of your heart. That your love for him grew each and every day to the point where you were certain that it was unhealthy. All of this was true, except for one omittance. Jongdae could not cook.
That wasn’t to say that he didn’t give it a red hot go from time to time but after the lemon chicken incident of 2015, the attempt at a birthday cake in 2017 and the countless times he’d tried to surprise you with breakfast in bed (burnt toast, chewy eggs, undercooked tomato and far too much salt) you’d refused to let him anywhere near the kitchen if you were capable to going in there yourself.
“It’s not fair for you to do all of the cooking jagi.” he’d whined last time you kicked him out of the kitchen in your apartment.
“I don’t do all of the cooking, I let you grill meat and make rice.” You’d responded while suppressing a laugh.
“Aish…” He’d mumbled as he walked off towards the couch.
The funny thing was that he could cook perfectly if it was over an open flame in the outdoors but as soon as you put him inside, atrocities happened in the poor kitchen.

Work had been beyond busy for you. Ever since opening the small bakery a few months ago you and your team had been inundated with orders for pastries, cakes, muffins and breads. You’d opened it in the shopfront downstairs with your apartment residing above. It made it a lot easier on you when you had to get up before sunrise to start baking bread and it meant that your apartment always smelt delicious.
You’d expected to open and have a relatively quiet first few months until word of mouth got around town and more people came in but for some reason the universe decided to whittle that quiet period down to the first week and then increase exponentially from then onwards.
So it came as a surprise for you when you came back from a delivery after closing up one afternoon to find Jongdae in the kitchen of the bakery. Your heart skipped a beat as your anxiety set in. What was he doing? Had he broken any of the expensive equipment? What was that smell? He looked up as you entered the kitchen and grinned. You ran your eyes over him as you searched for any sign of injury. He appeared to have all of his fingers intact and nothing appeared to be burning but this did nothing to ease your nerves. “Babe,” you started. “What are you doing?”
His smile widened. “I found something I wanted to make but our oven isn’t big enough so i came down here to use the bigger one.”
“Babe…”
“Before you tell me ‘I love you from the bottom of my heart but I don’t trust your cooking. Stay out of my kitchen.’ can you please hear me out?”
You took a moment to glance at the oven, noting that it didn’t have smoke pouring out of it and nothing smelled like it was burning. Taking a deep breath you turned your attention back to Jongdae. “I’ll try.”
He stepped forward and took your fidgeting hands in his, rubbing his thumbs over the back of your palms as he tried to ease your nerves. “I think I found something I can make. I made it too big which is why I needed this oven but I think it’s going well so far.” He explained.
“What are you making?”
“I want you to guess. What can you smell?”
You sniffed the air and pushed away the normal scents of the bakery. “Hmm melting cheese? Tomato? and some form of dough?”
He nodded vigorously. “Guess!”
“Wait. Babe are you making pizza?” You couldn’t help but smile at how pleased he looked with himself. He’d cooked food and it actually smelled how it was supposed to. That never happened indoors. “And you promise you made it? You didn’t just buy it and throw it in our oven to reheat?”
He scoffed. “The mess upstairs should shed light on the truth.”
You groaned at the thought of your little kitchen covered in flour and dough, flecks of tomato paste on the splashback and cheese littered all over the bench tops and floor. As you did an internal calculation of how long it would take you to clean up both kitchens a little alarm went off on his phone. “It’s done! PIZZA!” He yelled.
You refused to let him get it out of the oven, reminding him of the times he’d burned his hands or dropped the pan because it was too hot, so you grabbed the oven mits and removed the pizza from the oven.
It looked and smelled amazing, so amazing that it had you salivating. “This actually looks good.”
Jongdae pretended to be offended as he stood behind you, pulling you into a hug after you placed the tray down. He nuzzled your neck as he spoke. “I don’t like that you cook all day then have to come home and cook for me too. I want to get better so I can cook at least three nights per week for us.”
You smiled. He really did try and even if he was laughable bad in the kitchen he was nowhere near the walking disaster that he once was. He was trying to improve his skills and it warmed your heart that he cared enough to try. “Who doesn’t love pizza?”

Jongdae seemed distracted lately. The two of you waited tables at the small diner in your town, and usually your shared shifts were spent teasing one another and cracking jokes, giving the rest of the crew a hard time. But the past three shifts were the complete opposite, with Jongdae virtually ignoring you the whole time.
It bummed you out, but you thought that maybe he had a lot on his plate lately, so you didn’t question him about his strange behavior.
It became a cause of concern when it visibly started affecting his work.
Like now, you watched as he went to wipe down a table, spilling the salt shaker in the process, causing a bigger mess. He swore under his breath, shoulders slumping as he went to clean the seasoning off the table. Oh, this wouldn’t do.
You were only a few tables away when it happened, so you breezed past him. “Isn’t that bad luck?”
“What is?” He asked, voice void of any amusement, which was a first.
You internally frowned, but pressed on. “Spilling salt. You’re supposed to throw it over your left shoulder or the devil will get you.”
“It’s a good thing I’m not superstitious then, huh?”
“Well, I am.” You took a pinch that still lingered and threw it over your left shoulder like you’d advised. He scoffed and headed into the back, you trailing after him.
“Alright, Jongdae,” you said once the two of you were in the privacy of the kitchen. “What’s going on with you? It feels like lately you don’t want anything to do with me.”
He sighed, eyes locking with your fellow coworkers who were in the same room, making it pretty obvious they were pretending they weren’t listening.
“Not here,” he finally replied, voice cold.
“Then when?” You pressed on. “You can’t keep giving me the cold shoulder! Especially if I don’t even know why!”
“I’ll explain everything later, okay?” He promised through gritted teeth.
“Jongdae! You’re needed out front! Table four!”
You watched in amazement as he changed his demeanor. His tight lips curling into an attractive polite smile as he headed out into the lobby.
You let out a shocked laugh, also catching the eyes of your nosy coworkers. “What?”
They all jumped from your question, rushing back to the tasks they were paid to do.
Finally, after working probably the tensest shift ever, you clocked out. Jongdae quickly ending his as well. He made a run for it, but you hastily blocked the door with your body.
“Not so fast!” You said and he sighed again.
“Can we at least do this outside?” He bartered and you allowed it, letting him lead you out to his car. You leaned against the vehicle as he played with the cobblestone of the parking lot. “Do you remember last Friday? At the work party?”
Oh, how you wanted to forget that cursed event. You had a growing crush on Jongdae for some time now, and at the party he had spent majority of his time by your side. That was, until the new girl waltzed in. She was gorgeous. All of the guys that worked with you thirsted over her like she was a lake—all except Jongdae. At least, that’s what you had thought, but the party proved otherwise when he gravitated towards her instantly, leaving you in the dust.
Your drunken mind drowned in jealousy and you did the only thing that seemed right at the time—you threw yourself over another coworker, Yixing, who was just as hot as her and unnervingly polite. You weren’t proud to admit that you took advantage of his niceness, making sure Jongdae had a full view of you getting close to someone who wasn’t him. It wasn’t soon after he left—alone—and you grew sober enough from guilt, leaving soon after.
You had hoped that had nothing to do with the way he had been treating you, but it turned out it must have.
“What about it?” You asked, defenses already building.
He laughed humorlessly. “Your message was well received. I’m giving you space since you want nothing to do with me anymore.”
“What the hell are you going on about, Jongdae?”
“The party! I left you for five minutes just for you to be all over Yixing! If the way you looked at me while you did it was any indicator, I would think you didn’t really want to be my friend. Message received! And to think I thought, I don’t know, maybe I’ve been reading too much into things, but I thought that you and I were growing closer? That, maybe, we were a little more than friends? But Friday night you definitely let me know we are nowhere as close as I thought we were.”
“Wait, wait,” you interrupted, raising you hand to stop him. Jongdae gulped, obviously uncomfortable with the conversation being had. “You thought we were ‘more than friends’?”
“You don’t have to mock me,” he muttered, glancing away embarrassingly. He shrugged, trying to make it nonchalant, but his neck was too stiff. “I get it, okay? We’re not. I’m sorry for liking you. As I said before, I got your message so… I’m reeling it back.”
You walked up to him, watching your breathes’ mingle in the cold night and bopped him on the head—hard.
“Ouch!” He whined loudly, rubbing the spot you hit. “What was that for?!”
“If you think I don’t feel anything for you, then you’re more stupid than I thought,” you revealed, feeling your face heat up despite the chilly air.
“Wait, what?” His eyes slowly widened with realization. “But… Yixing? Why…?”
“I was trying to make you jealous, Dummy!” You said with pinched eyes. “You had ditched me for Jennie and I got jealous! I wanted you to feel what I was feeling. I wanted you to see that I was unbothered by you not liking me because, damn it, Jongdae! I like you! Okay?”
It was silent as you both let the new information process.
“So…. You do like me…? Like that?” He asked quietly.
“Don’t make me hit you again,” you threatened. “Yes, Jongdae, I like your unsuperstitious ass!”
A pleased grin grew on his face. “I like you too.”
You both simply smiled at each other. Jongdae took the few steps left to close the gap between you, pulling his hands out his pockets so that he could hold your hips tightly. “Well, it must be a good thing you are, because I’m now the luckiest guy alive.”
“Ew,” you joked and you both laughed as he dipped his head to give you a tender kiss.
