cherchet but they were neighbors growing up.

they played together all of the time and they were really close all through growing up. they would hop the fence to hangout. chet once broke his arm trying to go over it in one jump before he hit his growth spurt.

their bedrooms face each other and they have a window that they used to talk through. cherry has climbed onto chet’s roof to bang on his bedroom window to get his attention.

chet has had a crush on her since like the 6th grade but by the time he realized and worked up the courage to do anything about it, she was already dating bob.

whenever bob got too drunk or he and cherry would have a fight, chet would drive her home “just cause it’s on his way” but he’s the main person she tells about their relationship issues besides marcia.

cherry has cried about bob in chet’s arms so many times over the course of their relationship and even after it ends

chet doesn’t even like bob. in fact, he’s terrified of him. but he puts up with it just so he has the chance to be around cherry. he’s gotten threats from bob multiple times for “moving in on his lady”.

once bob actually decked him and he avoided cherry for days. it was the biggest fight they ever had.

they’ve always loved dancing together, they started when they were kids impersonating grown ups but they realized they actually liked doing it. they’ve made many dance routines in their day.

cherry doesn’t realize how she feels about chet until years after bob dies even if she spent all of those years wondering what that pang in her chest was whenever he wasn’t next to her.

they called all of the time in college and once they were both home and together they constantly held hands or had an arm around the other.

heyyy! is per i have a Chetcherrycola thought of how you think the gang would react to the baby, especially pony and darry.

also them just rocking up to the curtis house, seeing Soda and Chet asleep on the sofa and Cherry cleaning the house is something i always go back to in my mind

oh babe you get them sooooo bad omg.. darry and pony are just used to finding soda and chet knocked out together while cherry takes care of them lol. i think a lot of the time they just get tired with the baby and then she takes her turn while they are catching up on sleep. i don't think indi is too terribly fussy, especially when cherry's got her, as long as someones holding her, she's happy as can be lol

i think the gang (not pony and darry cus they're different lol) are less worried about soda having a kid (let's be so honest if someone was gonna be a teen parent it was gonna be him) and are more concerned about him dating TWO S O C S. sacreligious omg. i think when he tells them he's gonna be a dad they're SO excited, and then he tells them that he's parenting with chet and cherry and they just don't know what to say bc it's so outside of what they are used to. dally probably just tells him to spend all of their money, and johnny and steve make him promise that he'll be good to his baby, and of course two has some kind of wisecrack about how soda doesn't know how to keep it in his pants (and evidently he can't, so. fair.)

obv darry and pony knew about chetcherrycola before cherry got pregnant, so the shock of him dating both of them really had worn off, so i think the pregnancy thing really shook them. they were raised to know better than to go running away if they got a girl pregnant, so soda was in it for the long haul, whatever that meant. of course pony and darry will help soda with the baby when he's got her by himself, but tbh they're pretty shocked at how good of a dad he is (which ofc but they were just a little surprised) and they really just love on indi once she's born. they're the best uncles <3

i also think once they come around on chet and get to know cherry better, they loove having them around, cherry is an amazing cook and chet loves to roughhouse with pony just like two-bit does. goddd they're just a big family mannnnn

I need to get on thinking about Chet more. The fact that Cherry could fall in love with him after him helping to jump Ponyboy and being so strongly on the Soc side during the fallout of the murder intrigues me so much

Sodapop Curtis with his two girlfriends, (one of whom has two other boyfriends and a girlfriend who has a two boyfriends who are also boyfriends) two boyfriends, (one of whom has a girlfriend who’s also HIS girlfriend who also has another boyfriend and a girlfriend who has a boyfriend who’s best friend is in love with her who also has a boyfriend and a girlfriend who is also HER girlfriend) and lavender marriage (who’s sometimes his boyfriend depending on wether or not they’re a lesbian that day)

do you ever think that any of the socs would be AGAINST cherchet? like i feel like paul would look at it with disgust and be like “wtf that’s our dead best friend’s girlfriend (well ex but only for like two hours) what are you think?”

i definitely agree about paul!! not to mention that paul also turned everyone against cherry!!

with the others, i think they aren’t’ unsupportive but they’re definitely wary at first! they know chet has good intentions, but they’re a little worried about cherry dating again so soon. they don’t have anything to worry about, though, because chet is constantly asking them for advice

do u think in between justice for tulsa and the rumble chet and cherry ever talked? like obviously pauls turned basically all the socs against her but like,,,,,,,, chetcher my beloveds 😕😕

anon i would absolutely love to tell you i think they did but i would be such a liar

i think obviously marcia is still in contact with cherry

so chet asks marcia if cherry’s okay, and how she’s doing, etc. but i don’t think he has the spine to go and talk to her himself (marcia doesn’t ever relay his messages because she thinks it’s really dumb that he won’t just go talk to her)

THAT SAID

as soon as the rumble is over, he’s making a beeline straight for her house

he shows up at her door and just immediately apologises for the way he let paul turn him against her, and she brings him inside and patches him up

now cherry knows her self worth, she is not immediately forgiving him, but she does let him stay the night

which is pretty awkward honestly

but they talk a lot about the rumble, and chet really listens when she tells him that it isn’t fair that the socs keeps beating on the greasers

by the time chet leaves cherry’s house in the morning, they’re definitely on much better terms, but boy oh boy he has some more grovelling to do and he knows it
