Ty Lee Joins the Circus Pages 1-6
I feel like chiblocking in ATLA is so effective because they acknowledge the fact that benders are just wizards. Hear me out-
Bending forms have no combative utility outside of manipulating the elements (especially waterbending), and even when the chi flows properly they have no utility when your opponent is too close. Benders don't know martial arts, they know magic.
Chi blockers literally just have to sprint towards the benders before they can do their "big wave of back the fuck up" move, and they can kidnap the avatar multiple times. That's why Sokka was the only person we saw holding his own against Ty Lee (outside of sneak attacks), he just tried to dodge and counter without weird, erroneous movement that creates openings, and was able to keep fighting even after getting his pressure points hit.
Avatar Fighting Style #388
Terra Team Fight (Part 6 of 6) Mass Chi Blocking
that sad
that awesome
that moment when you believe you are a waterbender and you accidentally spill a glass of water on the floor and you try to soak up the water and put it back in your glass but it doesn't work so you simply think you were chiblocked
What happened to Chi blocking?
I find it strange that Bryke promoted Chi blocking so much at Sdcc so much only to have Chi blocking virtually disappear after episode 6. I know the electric gloves made it obsolete, but the Chi blocker battles were much more interesting than just seeing Korra and the gang get constantly electrocuted and the subsequently passing out.
Okay, I know I said I was going to work but--
Did we ever find out where Amon/the Equalists learned their chi-blocking techniques, orrr?
Lok Theory: Ty lee
Ty Lee was the only on in the series we knew who knew how to chi-block.I'm not saying shes evil, remember she joined the kyoshi warriors. But maybe after teaching lots of people how to do it someone found a "good use" for it and that person ended up teaming with Amon. Amon said their numbers were small at first so a small group of chi-blockers. Basically I'm saying maybe Ty-lee's descendants are responsible or someone she taught started spreading it for evil.
lol guys
remember the good old days of chi blocking being adorable
lol
