The Truth About Jesus: Stop Cherry-Picking Scriptures
Lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of contradictory arguments popping up around the figure of Jesus. It's one thing to have different perspectives, but when it comes to cherry-picking scriptures to fit a narrative, it gets downright frustrating. People love to twist the word of God to make it about race, history, or whatever suits their biases. But here’s the thing: Jesus came to save everyone, not just one group or race.
Let’s break it down.
The Cherry-Picking Problem
When it comes to debates about Jesus, people tend to pull verses out of context, making the argument seem stronger than it actually is. For example, John 3:16 is often used to prove that Jesus only came for Israelites, but if you read the whole chapter, it’s clear Jesus was talking about salvation for all who believe in Him. Yes, Israel was chosen, but not as an exclusive club. They were chosen to spread the message of salvation to the world. Jesus was born a Jew, but His message was universal.
Take a look at Revelation 7:9, where it says, “After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb…” That doesn’t sound like a limited invitation, does it? That’s all nations, not just one.
Jesus is Not Just for One Race
Some argue that Jesus only came for the Israelites, pointing to passages like Matthew 15:24, where Jesus said, “I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” But here’s the thing: Jesus knew His audience. He was talking to Israelites at that time, and yes, He came first to His people. But the message didn’t stop there. His life, death, and resurrection were meant to open the door for ALL people—Jews, Gentiles, Romans, Greeks, Ethiopians, and anyone who would come to Him.
Let’s not forget what the Bible says in Galatians 3:28: “There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” The whole point of Jesus’ mission was to break down those walls, not to build new ones based on race or ethnicity.
Stop the Misinterpretation and Look at the Big Picture
It's easy to cherry-pick scriptures to fit our own ideas or agendas. But when we do that, we miss the big picture of who Jesus really is. He’s not a tool for us to use to prop up our personal beliefs or to divide people into categories. He’s the Savior of the world, and His purpose was clear from the very beginning: to reconcile mankind with God, to destroy the barriers of sin, and to offer eternal life to anyone who believes in Him.
So the next time you hear someone cherry-picking verses to fit a narrative, take a step back. Read the whole Bible. Don’t just take isolated scriptures and twist them to fit a personal agenda. The Bible is clear: Jesus came for everyone. And He’s the one who brings true peace—not divisions based on race, history, or anything else.
Final Thought
We can argue all day long about race, culture, and history, but if we miss the point of Jesus’ sacrifice, we miss the entire point of the Gospel. Let’s focus on the true message He came to deliver, and not let people distract us with cherry-picked verses and misguided interpretations. Jesus is the Savior of all, and His love transcends every boundary.

Christmas truly means love, as this is the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. But how can you fully express it, dear Soul? How do you show your love? . . . Is it showing love through quality time? . . . . Is it through giving words of affirmation? . . . Is it through acts of physical touch, like hugs? . . . Is it through acts of service like donating blood, or volunteering your expertise? . . . Or is it through giving and sharing tangible things? . . .
