Phantasmata VS Interstella
Not that there is any comparison between the two composers... or is there?
Who am I speaking of?
First there is Christopher Rouse whom wrote "Phantasmata" which if you click here, you can listen to his work. Preferably, in a dark room alone (like I am now).
Then there is Daft Punk, in Insteralla 5555.
Interstella 5555 by pyke369
Daft Punk produced this film! The soundtrack is their album.
So why am I comparing these two artist you are asking? I realized today that both have found a way to tell stories with their music. Now, Daft Punk does have some words in the album but really not much at all.
Rouse's piece straight up gives me the chills... and then to find out that the piece is based on a "Astral Voyage" creates so much curiosity with in me I can hardly stand it. The meaning behind Phantasmata is, "hallucinations created by thought."
Thus, this opening movement represents a dreamt out-of-body "somnambulatory journey" through Antoni Gaudi's remarkable Cathedral of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. For those of you who have not seen this creation in person here is a few shots of what it looks like. (Unfortunately, all my shots are on film and I do not have digital copies but thank you to this photographer for help with the blog)
This is a aerial view of Gaudi's creation. It has been modified to depict what it will look like in 2026 when they are finished building. Gaudi never finished it. This was the first that I saw of his amazing architecture and honestly it is very creepy. Even the way the artist put this photo together with the movement creates that creepy feel to it! (IDK maybe I'm just freaked out) lol
The website states in regards to construction, "Construction on Sagrada Familia began in 1882, and since Gaudí’s death, nine architects have been put on the famously never-ending project."
Both of these creations tell brilliant stories with hardly any words attached. The difference? One is modern and the other is not. Is the future of classical music telling a story in digital works? I want to know what Mr. Rouse thinks about Astral Voyages? He obviously believes in them if he is creating work based on them. Would that mean Daft Punk believes in Aliens? Silly? Truth? Hmmmm...
:) That is all.
