To Bring Back Loved Ones; That’s What Everyone Wants.

As mentioned two weeks ago: I just finished my first ever playthrough of Chrono Trigger and I just could not help myself but to insert Megop into the narrative.

This Post will include spoilers for the first ‘arc’ of Chrono Trigger but apart from that, it won’t spoil too much about the game if you wish to play it yourself someday (which i highly reccomend).

It’s mostly TFone alligned.

It’s the day of the Iacon 5000 in Iacon to celebrate the citystate’s 1000s Anniversary and two simple mining bots, D-16 and Orion Pax of course wish to witness the spectacle.

But just as the two of them are about to enter the stadium to witness the Iacon 5000, Orion starts hearing weird noises from within the stadium’s basement. Curious, he drags D-16 into the deepest parts of the stadium’s underground and the two of them find one of their fellow miners - Wheeljack - tinkering away at some weird machine.

They hide behind a bunch of boxes and when Wheeljack leaves the room to grab some more supplies, Orion cannot help himself but investigate the machine more closely. Despite D-16’s protests and warnings, he begins to press random buttons, seeing what any of them do. Then when he pulls a specific lever on the machine a strange portal -resembling a space bridge- materialises before him and swallows Orion whole before disappearing just as fast as it had appeared.

Just in that moment Wheeljack returns, looking rather sheepish, with a displeased Elita-1 following closely behind him. Elita is reprimanding Wheeljack about how she caught him stealing mining supplies and ‘May Primus show him more mercy than she will, if he has broken a single one of them for one of his stupid inventions’. That is when Elita and Wheeljack notice D-16 standing in front of Wheeljack’s latest inventions, hammering on the different buttons while yelling Orion’s name.

Wheeljack’s mood instantly lifts up at the realisation that his invention must have worked before the second realisation hit him that Orion must have become an accidental test subject. Wheeljack pushes D-16 aside and begins to explain that this machine was a time machine. He had built it (with the help of Ratchet) in hopes that it could help Sentinel Prime find the location of the Matrix of leadership.

After tinkering with his machine some more Wheeljack was able to find out that Orion had been sent back in time to Cybertron’s equivalent of the middle ages. When Iacon was still a kingdom. Before the 13 Primes had become the citystate’s direct rulers.

Wheeljack opens up the time gate again and hands D-16 and Elita-1 a small devise. The inventor tells them to simply press the button on the devise once they’ve found Orion and he’ll open up the time gate for them once again.

And with that D-16 and Elita are sent back to the kingdom of Iacon during the middle ages.

The first astonishing thing Elita and D-16 notice is that every Bot, regardless of social standing, has a T-Cog. The two of them with their hollow chests are the exception. But they quickly push that aside, thinking that maybe because during this time period Energon was still flowing in abundance, more bots tended to be born with T-Cogs.

While asking around town if anyone had seen a Blue-Red coloured cogless mech they are told that they should bring up the matter with Iacon’s king Megatron.

They also found out that apparently the king’s conjunx, Queen Optimus, had gone missing a while ago - kidnapped by a group of Quintessons. But luckily the Queen had been rescued recently and brought back to the castle of Iacon. But rumour has it that the King’s conjunx is missing his T-Cog and that certainly the Quintessons must have ripped Optimus’ T-Cog out while they had him in their captivity. So they cannot say for certain if King Megatron would have the time to help them find their missing friend, given getting his spouse’s T-Cog back clearly takes priority.

With no other leads to go off of, Elita and D-16 head over to the castle of Iacon and just as expected, King Megatron (Earthspark version) tells them that while he understands their worry about their missing friend, he is currently far too occupied getting his spouse's Tcog back. But upon noticing that D-16 and Elita are missing their T-cogs as well he asks them for a favour.

Megatron explains how his conjunx Optimus has been acting strangely and completely out of character ever since he's lost his T-Cog and returned to the castle. So maybe they could talk to Optimus a bit? Maybe talking to some cogless bots will help ease his conjunx's mind.

So D-16 and Elita climb up the tower to the royal bed chambers to talk to royal consort Optimus only to come face to face Orion, sitting on the huge bed. Orion jumps up upon seing D-16 and jumps straight into the grey mech's arms. Orion begins to explain how after being swallowed by that weird portal he ended up in some forest and some soldiers snatched him and took him here calling him Queen Optimus the entire time.

D-16, just happy to have Orion back, is about to push the button to let Wheeljack know he can teleport them back to the present now when suddenly Orion crumbles to the floor, clutching his chest.

Orion cries out how he's in pain, how it feels like he is being ripped apart from the inside out. Before D-16 or Elita can even react to it they watch in horror as Orion begins to fade away into thin air before their very eyes until nothing is left of him. D-16 begins to call out for Orion frantically, believing he may have been sucked into yet another time period or something, lost in the stream of time and space. Elita however gets a weird look on her face and suddenly grabs D-16 by the neck and drags him out of the royal bed chambers towards a painting she had seen in one of the castle's corridors earlier.

She points at a painting of King Megatron and his spouse Optimus, remarking how Optimus strikes an uncanny resemblance to the dumbest bot on the payroll, aka Orion Pax.

D-16: Okay? Orion looks similar to some missing queen from 500 years ago. What of it? How ist that helping us to get him back!?

Elita-1: Do I seriously have to spell it out to you? What I am trying to get at is that our Orion Pax is with a high probability the direct descendant of King Megatron and Queen Optimus Prime. D-16: My Orion? Of royal blood? You're joking. Just cuz him and the Queen have a similar frame and helmcrest. And I am asking you once again. How is that going to help us getting him back Elita-1: Use your brain processors for once. Orion is a descendant of Queen Optimus. Queen Optimus has been kidnapped by the Quintessons. The soldiers were supposed to save him, but now history has changed. Orion looks so much like the Queen that they probably called off the search when he appeared here. But if the real Queen Optimus gets killed... Orion will have never been born. And he will seize to exist. D-16: And without Queen Optimus, all the generations leading up to Orion will have never been born- Elita-1: Precisely. But there might still be time! If we can save Queen Optimus, history as we know it should be restored and remain unchanged!

VERY IMPORTANT AUTHORS NOTE: ONLY ORION IS A DECENDANT OF KING MEGATRON AND OPTIMUS! D-16 has no relations to them in the slightest and it's pure coincidence that he looks vaguely similar to King Megatron. Before y'all come at me accusing of shipping blood related people together. Okay? okay.

And with that D-16 and Eilta-1 go out to fight the Quintessons and free the real Queen Optimus. The eventually find Optimus chained up in the deepest parts of a Quintesson ship and manage to bring him back safe and sound to his spouse Megatron.

Maybe there is even a small scene of D-16 feeling a smidge of jealousy over how lovey dovey King Megatron and Optimus are, wishing that he and Orion could be this affectionate with each other too. (Maybe this would also finally give D-16 the motivation to actually confess to Orion? I'll let you be the judge)

Anyways Orion rematerialises and at long last the trio presses the button to notify Wheeljack and they all return home, with D-16 and Elita unsure if they should let Pax know about his royal heritage or not.

what would the deltarune equivalent to chronotale be like?

OH OH I’VE THOUGHT ABOUT THIS BEFORE TBH AND I THINK EVEN DABBLED A TINY BIT IN IT BACK WHEN CHAPTER 1 FIRST CAME OUT

My initial thought was to naturally combine Chrono Cross/Radical Dreamers and Deltarune together in a similar vein as CT and UT- and that’s what I did back when chapter 1 first came out (in a way, I do have old art of this concept with Kid as Susie and Serge as Kris)

Alternatively, I do also have old CT x DR concepts and art as well, which includes old art of the zeal family taking the place of the royal Spade family, Glenn as Rouxls and Crono as Kris and Schala as Dess. (All separate concepts. Schala as Dess is the concept of the zeals replacing the holidays)

All of this said though, I realize none of this doesn’t really completely qualifies as a “ChronoTale equivalent” of Deltarune given ChronoTale only really replaces a select few characters if any at all. (That being just Frisk) so I suppose maybe just the main party would change? Maybe just Kris?

It’d be fun to explore that aspect and play with the idea of Crono’s potential relationship with the player/SOUL. Something we never get to see in Chrono Trigger given he’s the player character.

Maybe take Chronotale and give it a fresh spin just as Toby did with Undertale (even tho i know Deltarune technically came first)

But also I’d hate to just throw Lavos in again and rehash the main plot of ChronoTale, even if Lavos is my lil blorbo LMAO /silly

Deltarune is more about escapism and defying fate- the latter being more like Chrono Trigger imo

I mean hell, they literally go back in time to change fate…which could work honestly.

Like, say something bad happened to Crono’s mom when he was really young and he was left abandoned in the woods by the bunker where he was eventually found by Toriel (whole thing could’ve been set up by Gaster as well or smth) so she takes him home and adopts him, Asriel eventually goes to college and prolly meets, idk Lucca and/or Chara LMAO idk i’d need some time to think about everything

Granted it’s a bit harder to squeeze some of the other Chrono Trigger characters in but I think I could eventually think of something. I feel like something could definitely be done with the Gaster shenanigans tying in with the Zeal family

Maybe Dess just became one with the dream devourer like Schala LMAO /hj

Maybe Lavos and the Knight are at odds because of their conflicting goals

Maybe Lavos is fascinated by the dark worlds

I was gonna self rb for like the nth time but then I remembered I had a post in my drafts that I may as well get out even though it's been a long while.

I think at the core of the whole Janus of Guardia AU is how our habits and patterns of thinking can doom us if we're not careful. Janus gets picked up by the humans instead of the Mystics, and he gets to make a lot of friends early on, he's even happy for a while, but still ends up as the Fiendlord because of how his trauma and tunnel vision stay the same.

This kind of theme is pretty prominent in the Dark Glenn AU.

"This will all be worth it." / "And then what?"

The main difference between Janus and Glenn here is that Janus is very goal-oriented, while Glenn is very feelings-oriented, and they both take these traits to a fault.

Even in better circumstances, Janus doesn't let go of his experience in Zeal. He grows up happy in this AU, but significant events (isolation due to war, the King's death, Leene's pendant) launch him back into obsessive thinking and once he gets in that mode, nothing can stop him from reaching his goal. He doesn't think about the well-being of others at that point.

As for Glenn, he's very much aware of how his actions affect others, but can get overwhelmed by thoughts/emotions and freeze. In canon, he isolates himself for years after Cyrus's death, and it takes Crono and friends to snap him out of it. In the Dark Glenn AU, he's torn between his love/loyalty for Janus, and his morals/sense of duty. Now, Janus gives him a chance to walk away, but Glenn finds himself frozen. And like in canon, he hides for years, choosing to avoid both his situation and making a choice by "guarding Denadoro".

My main and current focused fic is an AU where Janus never becomes Magus thanks to circumstances and the Mammon Machine not corrupting the queen. The first arc @zeal-ascendancy is a full "re-telling" of the game's plot with this key change. Major differences include: Glenn is never Frog, Cyrus is alive and Ozzie is the "Demon King"… Also Dalton is a legit threat. The sequel is @ascendancy-echoes is a classic "Next Gen" tale with two major intertwining plots: A mysterious young Mystic is dragged into the revenge plot of the Mystics of Medina and the young daughter of Lucca and Janus being lost in time with Flea. Chapter 72: The Enchantress

With Flea's help, Zarya better understood how his magic worked beyond what she had learned to copy. There was a subtle change to the spell with each form, not unlike the changing the order of letters to make new words. It didn't take long for Zarya to learn the shape of the runes that made the difference between Flea's human forms and his Daemon forms. With that knowledge in mind, she set to work etching the runes into the stones, using tools she had taken from the ruins.

As she carefully etched the symbols into the stone, Zarya hummed along to her music box that Oren had made for her. Humming helped her focus on her work. Finally, she finished the set of stones. Meanwhile Flea watched silently, wondering if Zarya would succeed.

Hopeful of her work, Zarya handed one of the stones to Flea and asked him to 'change back', so she could be sure the spell worked on an non-enchanted person. Flea frowned at the idea of assuming his true appearance but he knew it was necessary to ensure Zarya's efforts would work.

After shifting back to his original appearance, Flea asked Zarya for the next step. Zarya told him to rub the stone on his hand. Flea felt like such a step seemed too simple but he obliged. The familiar chilling sensation of his shapeshifting washed over him and Flea looked down to see his form seemed to be unchanged. Before he could say anything, Zarya handed him his mirror.

His dusty-rose hair was now reddish-black and his ears were rounded, just like a human's would be. Opening his mouth to examine his teeth, Flea noted the lack of fangs. His eyes were still a dark maroon color, perhaps dark brown in the right lighting. The stone, however, had kept him female in appearance.

"Change back the same way," Zarya declared.

Flea nodded and rubbed the stone again. The shadowy magic of his spell washed over him and he was back to his original form. He handed the stone back to Zarya and accepted a second stone she abruptly offered.

"This is so Yemi can be a Daemon too," Zarya explained.

Flea eyed the stone. He was skeptical that it would change his appearance much since he was already a Daemon but he had promised Zarya he'd give her experiment a try. As it was with the first stone, Flea felt the effects of his spell and it seemed as if he was unchanged. A quick check in the mirror showed a form similar to the human one but with dark crimson hair, pointed ears, and wine-red eyes.

After undoing the enchantment of the stone, Flea shifted back to his preferred appearance. He smiled at Zarya who was flapping her hands excitedly and bouncing in place.

"Feeling proud of yourself, huh?" he asked with a slight grin.

Zarya nodded affirmatively. Flea smiled but was quick to remind Zarya that they still needed to make sure the stones would work for Yemoja. Zarya nodded. Flea had a point but the fact the stones worked for him gave her hope.

Zarya could barely contain her excitement when Yemoja was able to visit. She wasted no time fetching the stones and bringing them to Yemoja. Before Yemoja could ask, Zarya explained the function of the stones, showing Yemoja the runes on each stone and practically shoving them into her hands.

"Just like Ylenia, Umbria and Flea," she declared proudly.

Yemoja smiled. Looking at the etched gemstones in her hands, she asked, "And if I want to be myself?"

"Rub the stone you used again," Zarya answered. "Off and on. Really easy."

Yemoja let out a breath. Her heart was racing with anticipation and fear as she looked at the blue stones in her hands. Zarya seemed confident that her efforts would work. Flea voiced that the stones had worked for him, but his assurances did little to ease Yemoja's nervousness. She held the stones in her hands for what felt like forever before she offered a silent prayer to the Great Fire and rubbed one of the gemstones between her finger and thumb.

She shivered as the magic took hold. It felt like she was standing in the middle of a winter night. Then, she felt a gentle breeze, but it was different. She felt a hand gently take hers into theirs and she opened her eyes to see Zarya beaming brightly.

"How does Yemi feel?" Zarya asked.

Looking down at her hands, Yemoja was speechless as she looked at the rich brown colored skin that replaced her white fur. Turning her arm slightly, Yemoja could see paler splotches on her skin that mirrored where the spots on her arms would be. She reached up to touch her own face. It was strange not to feel fur or whiskers. Even her ears felt foreign to her, now simple rounded ears like Zarya had once possessed.

Flea stepped forward and offered her his mirror. Yemoja cautiously took it into her hand and lifted up to see her face. Her eyes were still cyan-blue, but her face was the same color as her arms and dappled with more pale splotches that mirrored where her spots would be. Her hair was black, peppered and streaked snowy-white, still plaited in braids.

Yemoja let out a soft chuckle and lowered the mirror. She smiled and said, "It feels strange… Almost unreal."

The moment of truth. Yemoja closed her eyes and rubbed the rune on its surface once more to dispel the enchantment. She felt a the same cold sensation came over her and when Yemoja opened her eyes, she was back to her true self.

Yemoja nearly dropped the stones as Zarya leapt to hug her, proud that her efforts had worked and happy for Yemoja. Then she asked Yemoja to try the other stone. Yemoja found having pointed ears and being Daemon as strange as being human. The subtle difference of the Daemon form was that her hair and skin-tone had a cooler hue to them, but was otherwise identical.

Changing back to her true form once more, Yemoja thanked Zarya for the gifts. Zarya happily declared that Yemoja was welcome before remarking that they needed a way to carry the stones so Yemoja didn't drop them. Yemoja examined the small blue gems and smiled. She assured Zarya she might have a solution to the problem before handing them back and asking Zarya to keep them safe for the time being.

While Zarya waited for Yemoja's next visit, she turned her focus back on the original reason she had set out to learn enchantments. Now that she had figured out what it took to enchant a stone with a specific spell, she had a better idea of how to approach her problem of creating a sword summoning spell.

As it was with the shield enchantment, any attempt to draw the runes in the air caused the magic to disperse and the spell to fail. Zarya realized that it wasn't as simple as commanding the magic to 'make a sword' or summon the one she already owned. The rune for sword was too vague to work on its own.

Zarya knew she would have no choice but to use the stones that remained. She read through the handful of Melchior's books once more in search of a solution. Clearly there was something she had missed before.

It would be a couple weeks after Esen's departure when Zarya found a solution. After reading the books again, she found a paragraph on infusing metal with dreamstone to strengthen an enchantment on an object. She looked over at the small collection of dreamstones. Some were too small to use for enchantments on their own but maybe if she crushed them into a powder, the combined amount would be enough.

The next morning, Zarya set to work creating a forge. Flea emerged from his room to see her arranging stones in a pile and asked her what she was doing, noting they already had a hearth in the kitchen and fireplaces in their rooms.

"I'm making a forge," Zarya answered.

Flea eyed the pile of rocks and asked Zarya why she was making a forge. Zarya replied that it was for her sword and that she didn't want to bother the smith in town.

"Do you know anything about blacksmithing?" Flea asked, still skeptical of Zarya's actions.

Zarya nodded. She happily declared that her 'Papa Taban' and her mom knew about using a forge and that she had watched them use one from a safe distance before. She added that she had read 'Grandpa Mel's books' and that he was also a blacksmith so she trusted his advice.

"I feel like watching someone do something or reading about it is a bit different from actually doing it yourself," Flea remarked. "Your grandfathers and your mom have had years of experience…"

"Grandpa Mel is a family friend," Zarya declared in that tone that told Flea she was reciting a sentence taught to her.

"My point still stands," Flea retorted.

Zarya nodded, but continued in her task. She understood enough that a forge was basically a very hot fire that could melt metal. She didn't want the sword to melt but if she could heat it up the blade until it glowed, she could mix in some powdered dreamstone and infuse the metal with the stone's properties. Or at least that's what Melchior's book said.

Once the forge was created, Flea asked Zarya what her plan was. Zarya told Flea she was going to add dreamstone to the blade.

"Aren't you going to need blacksmithing tools, like a hammer or something?" Flea asked. He had no idea how blacksmithing worked beyond hitting hot metal with a hammer.

Zarya opened a bundle to reveal some tarnished blacksmithing tools before clarifying she found them in the ruins before Flea could question if she had 'borrowed' them from town. Flea watched as Zarya slipped on some leather gloves and apron. When he commented that he was surprised leather had lasted in the ruins, Zarya cheerfully declared she had borrowed those items from town.

"I'll return them when I'm done," she said reassuringly.

Flea thought to scold Zarya for 'borrowing' the local blacksmith's belongings but he knew this was his doing. He had been the one to tell her that stealing when needed was okay, so it was no wonder that Zarya had followed his example. So instead of lecturing Zarya about not stealing, he smirked and told her he'd remind her to return them later.

To Zarya's credit, she had made a decent forge. Having already engraved the runes into the blade, she heated the sword in the glowing embers and stones until it was white-hot. She took the mortar filled with powdered unrefined dreamstone and dusted the blade with the fine red dust. The dust melted and filled in the grooves of the etching Zarya had done to the blade.

As she focused on her goal of creating a stone that would summon her sword, Zarya focused on letting her own magic flow from her into the sword and into the refined dreamstone she held in her hand against the hilt. She wasn't sure what would happen, but she made it her current dream to make this enchantment, to make the gemstone summon her sword just like her father's shield. If she could invent an enchantment, she knew that she would open the Gate.

The stone began to feel warm, like sunshine on her skin during a hot summer's day. The stone and the blade began to glow, softly at first but it quickly became blinding. Flea and Zarya had to close their eyes to shield them from the light coming from the gemstone. When the light faded away, Flea was the first to open his eyes.

"Where did the sword go?" Flea asked. All he saw in Zarya's hand was the blue stone, etched with runes.

Zarya opened her eyes and stared at the blue stone in her hand. There was a warmth to the stone and she felt a sort of tingling sensation, not unlike the warm and tingling feeling of her dad's shield when she held her fingers just above the gem's surface.

Curious if she had succeeded, Zarya gave the stone a quick swipe as she would with her father's bracer. A trail of white fire and shadows that almost looked like a bird emerged from the stone and manifested the sword in her hand. It looked different from before, its blade was now more like the sabre that Esen used, yet its guard and hilt remained in the same style although it appeared the metal and fabric had changed in color. Zarya examined the sword closely and noticed the guard of the blade was now a white gold-like metal, embossed with stars whereas it had been previously been more brass-like and embossed with swallows. The hilt's grip was now more of a deep purple rather than a burgundy-red as well.

Flea jumped back as Zarya began bouncing in place and accidentally waving her sword around, overcome with joy that she had succeeded. Zarya swiped the stone again and the sword vanished into the trail of white fire and shadows which was drawn back into the stone. Resuming her bouncing and happy sounds, Zarya proudly declared, "I did it!"

Zarya repeated the words several times, elated that she had created such a special enchantment. Her joyous thoughts turned to Esen and how-

She stopped bouncing and gazed sadly at the gemstone. Flea noticed her expression had suddenly softened, looking almost pensive, and asked her what was wrong.

"Esen would've loved to see this…"

Flea sighed, sharing the somber mood with Zarya, and nodded. He smiled weakly and said, "Yeah… He would've loved this..."

Clearing his throat, he asked Zarya what she had planned next. Zarya looked at the stone in her hand. She didn't want to have it loose in her pockets or have to carry the stone in her hand to summon the blade. She knew she would need to make another bracer and voiced this to Flea who told her he had no idea how to make such a thing.

"Maybe Roshan?" Zarya asked.

Flea shook his head and replied, "His family makes beer and ciders… but maybe he knows who can help in town."

Zarya nodded. She took off the apron and gloves before declaring she was going to return the items and go ask Roshan for help. Before Flea could say anything, Zarya had already teleported away.

Flea let out a sigh and followed Zarya. After all, it had been a while since they had visited Umbria and Roshan.
