Ww Link? Polynesian coded
I dunno about Polynesian-coded, but BotW’s Lurelin Village - which bears a striking resemblance to Outset Island - is a village comprised entirely of brown people! The good news is that The Wind Waker Randomizer already has a built-in feature that lets you customize not only the character model you’re using, but also individual colors on those models:
So brown WW Link is very, very real. Mind you, right now this is only a function of the randomizer (which is wickedly fun, and I recommend anyone capable of emulating GameCube games go check it out, for playable Tetra if no other reason), but making a complete texture pack for the vanilla game is very doable, and something I may look into in the future.
Not really related to my Text-Free TP project, but at some point over the past few weeks while rummaging around in the game’s texture files, I realized that I wasn’t in any way limited to only replacing the game’s UI--and so of course, the first question I asked myself was:
Can I make it brown?
The answer is yes. Yes, I absolutely can.
As of now I’ve only touched up the textures on Link’s Ordonian garb, and I imagine this would need to be done for all of his outfits--though that should hardly be difficult. I don’t know that there are enough people out there who both a) are still playing Twilight Princess in 2019 and b) would use such a thing in the first place to warrant creating a completed pack for general use, but I’ve enough of a vested interest in it that I plan on finishing it regardless.
And heck, this could potentially be done with every other character in the game, too. Emulation is a damn great tool.
I had been meaning to give Ashei the same treatment I gave Link since I realized it was possible, and I finally got around to getting off my lazy bum and doing the dang thing. Compare her vanilla textures (left) to my modded textures (right). Ashei is brown now, guys. Sorry, I don’t make the rules but I DO make the mods.
Right now, I’m looking at Agitha, Renado, Luda, and Telma for future projects (as well as the residents of Ordon and the miscellaneous people that run about Castle Town). I may consider Coro and his siblings if I can do something about Iza’s outfit. At any rate, once I’ve done enough work on people that AREN’T Link, I plan on releasing the mod in one complete and proper texture pack, so look forward to that!
